Gradual rankings is so wack, rank people based on how they performed in the ranking period. HBox's ranking is charitable to Mang0 by only looking at placements. The only top-10 player he's beaten this year is Jmook. Ginger has the same number of top-10 wins (Plup, also a top-5 player) and has only lost to Fiction (who Mang0 also lost to) and aMSa this season, once each. I think Mang0 vs Moky & Fiction (who should probably be right above SluG) is a much closer argument, and that's the only place where I feel we should look at legacy and give Mang0 the nod.

With the same methodology I would round out the top 20 with in order pipsqueak, axe, krudo, fiction, polish, and aklo. overall really good list.

re Hugs thinking Mang0 should be higher rank: i dont agree with the "legacy" argument for rankings. how is anyone supposed to justify a placement that isnt backed by the performances in the time range thats being looked at? it seems like thered be no fair way to quantify it

The reason lloD can beat Leffen with Peach is because Leffen specifically studied Armada's Peach. It's not like Leffen is specifically really good against Peach, he's good against Armada's Peach.

Saying Mango shouldn't be placed so low after a couple bad wins is inconsistent with putting JMook so high after a couple good wins. I think they're both placed correctly and can't think of a justification for only one of them being placed correctly. Great vid tho m8

placements are the most important, otherwise how do you measure how important beating a certain player is? that's if you are starting from 0, if you are taking legacy into account then that's another matter (which shouldn't be considered in this kind of rankings)

Not intending any hate but how do you consider hbox able to challenge zain. I'm sure if he played a 10/10 and zain played bad we could have a close set, but every set i've seen between the two since summit 11 has been pretty one sided hbox might take game 1 but zain just remembers and shits on him. Honestly hbox's biggest demon rn seems to be zain, with leff and cody lookin pretty awful for him too but they're at least spacies and can play shaky and lose on any given day. I think hbox has had really good bracket luck (not that there's anything he can do about that) and hasn't really looked like he stands a chance at those three playing solid since before covid lol.

I wonder if Hbox was trying to light a fire under mang0's ass by ranking him so low. Granted it's not ridiculously low given those placements but I'm with Hugo that rankings should be more static and that seems too low considering he was just ranked 1.

The problem with these rankings is that they seem to only take into account these 4 tournaments, and not previous form which is an incredibly short period of time. Cynically, you could make the argument Hbox purposely chose only these 3 because they run along the time period where he has been playing like a top 5 player again compared to his previous form. This also means players like Ginger (didn't attend 2/4) and Wizzrobe (didn't attend at all) are greatly hurt. Someone on twitter also said the rankings were done purely on placements, so I guess they're just pointless then honestly.

You melee kids are way too inconsistent and informal whenever picking up the best player. In Ultimate you have MKLeo, the undisputed best in the world at smash ultimate. Leo is KNOWN to lose to certain people like ESAM (sometimes at least) and they send Leo to losers, from there, Leo beats everyone and wins the tournament. Leo wins like 98% of the tournaments with some placements, the lowest being 4th I think? Does that make the dudes who beat Leo better than him? no. Leo is still 1# In Melee, there is the notion that "mango is the best" but whenever he goes to tourmanets his placements are meh or not truly up to what a real number 1 is. This is where Zayn cames in, the dude is consistent with his placements. As a result, right now Zayn is the best, that's it. There is no "mango is the best. There is no a statistic that proves otherwise. Oh mango beat zayn, what's that? mango is the best? No, he is not. You can really learn a thing or two about Ultimate competitive scene which is massive btw.
