I was a bit disappointed Today that i wasn't able to capture The Whistling Ghost III Rail Tour on it's journey on to The West Somerset Railway. I had a pre-booked Driver CPC 'Periodic Training Day 'in Taunton to count towards the renewal of my CPC Drivers card for Buses and Coaches. Due in 5 Years time, the Course would take all Day !! It had been cancelled at least 3 times due to lack of numbers and this was the only Day available for some time. I have decided to do one a Year until then..it's the easiest option. I decided that after the course i would at least try and get some footage on The WSR. As 4936 'Kinlet Hall' had taken 8 Coaches of a Ten Coach Train onwards to Minehead there was no point in chasing around trying to Film that , when the Main Train was in Bishops' Lydeard !! This is the second time i have filmed lineside in BL in a week....it was to be a good decision that i am very happy about. In the first clip you see 4936 'Kinlet Hall' bringing in the 8 Coaches from Minehead. Then in the next couple of clips Castle Class.4-6-0. 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe' Shunts with it's two Coaches and backs on to the other 8 on Platform 2. The Whistling Ghost III Railtour is operated by Vintage Trains and West Coast Railways. The last main clip shows 5043 departing on 1Z54 Deps 18:30 (18:27 act) Bishops Lydeard. WSR----Tyseley Steam Trust. arr 23:34 (00:16 act) I am a great believer in What's meant to be , is meant to be'. So what looked like being a missed opportunity turned out fine in the End....I hope you enjoy the footage of 5043 with lot's of Steam, Smoke and clag ...I certainly did !! Cheers...Steve.~
Filmed on a Panasonic HC X920 .
With a Velbon DV-7000 Tripod.

Earl of Mount Edgcumbe was most certainly a catch! That is what you call a real steam train! Absolutely stunning how the steam clears away and the train appears! Lovely footage Steve, and a lucky catch! Liked :-D

Traveller It certainly was D. A case of the right decision...Being in the right place at the right time. Also luckily i had the sense to move position a few Yards further away from the Water Tower.....as you can see with the Steam i would have disappeared in it....lol. Thanks for the super comment...Best wishes...S.~ P.s. Hope your both having a good week.

An excellent video of both GWR steam locos Steven and what a great departure shot of 5043 from the station. I am going to see her in Chester on the 20th June on my way back from a short break in North Wales. It will be nice to see a GWR loco on the main line again as I don't get to see many. You video is a nice taster for that day. Regards - Allan.

Nice work Steve, you really did a great job of capturing a typical Great Western steam scene at the WSR with both locos looking and sounding great! I wonder if 4936 kicked up as much exhaust steam fuss as 5043 did upon start up? I mean how much steam has to be exhausted from the cylinder drain cocks to ensure they are clear? Thanks. Ken
@STEVEHARLEY1956
@STEVEHARLEY1956 9 лет назад
Ken Browne Thanks Ken....Not sure about 4936 Exhaust Steam , as i didn't see it go anywhere yesterday as i only had it arriving back from Minehead. I've seen footage of similar to 5043's at The K&WVR early just off Shed..that went on for ages !! I suppose it varies from Engine to Engine maybe too. Cheers...S.~

Good work, Steve. Lousy driving but excellent video (steam drain cocks should not be open for more than a few seconds - BR Engineman's Handbook).

balmesh Thanks Alan...Too be honest i'd just moved position away from the Water Tower...otherwise i would have disappeared in the Steam !!! I was lucky there....lol....
