Wind turbines at Weatherford, Oklahoma automatically turn to face the wind after a thunderstorm gust front passes and shifts the winds from southeasterly to westerly on May 6, 2007. This is a 25x time-lapse view in full 1080i high definition. Copyright Dan Robinson.

I've been wondering if wind turbines do have this feature. Thanks for the video, mate!

fun fact! A nacelle can spin up to three times before it must unwind itself.
@illuminate4622
@illuminate4622 6 лет назад
Eviktion tangled cables would result otherwise xD
@generaltechnology8250
@generaltechnology8250 2 года назад
There should be metal contacts connecting the nacelle to the tower then so it can spin withing tangling the cables
@falco3471
@falco3471 Год назад
@@generaltechnology8250 That isn't possible because the current that the generator produce is so high that no such device (named "slip ring") is able to handle.

It has bearings inside to turn the turbine into the wind.
@Dogappel
@Dogappel Год назад
@EOWS 812's SIREN PRODUCTIONS There is a sensor which detects if the cables are twisted, and if they are twisted around 3-4 times, the windturbines will stop and the nacelle will slowly spin around a few times. And when the cables are untangled again, the windturbine will start up again.

I wonder if when the Turbine starts spinning the other way, If the turbines start to power the wind, instead of the wind powering the turbine?
@thestudentofficial5483

Wind turbines are connected to AC generators, which generates same electricity wherever it spins.
@philipsarpong8301
@philipsarpong8301 4 года назад
I don't think the turbine spins the other way. The hub of the blades yaws to face the direction of the wind but the blades rotates to one direction.
@breather8758
@breather8758 2 года назад
So if the wind turbine spins the other way the turbine starts powering the wind causing the wind to have more energy, probably making it even more dangerous! We can make liquid wind maybe if there's too much energy in the wind

This feels so weird seeing windmills turn anti-clockwise because I’m Irish and the windmills in Ireland spin clockwise instead.

@corgraveland4874

With this type of wind turbines, normally the blades rotate clockwise in both cases. The hub of the blades faces the wind, say points to where the wind comes from. But together the three blades rotate in one direction, normally clockwise. There is one more remarkable thing to look at. That is that the 3 blades themselves also are capable to turn somewhat. That is to be able to adjust "the pitch on the blades" when necessary, either to reduce the wind force on the blades and the entire turbine during storms events. Furthermore, the "the pitch on the blades" is modified to optimize the energy yield in changing weather and wind regimes. The effect of this changing "pitch on the blades", rotating the blades is clearly visible, for example from 0:24. Well visualized! 🌍⚡👌👍

Sort of. The kW energy created is dropped off for system safety. For power to come on the grid, it must be the same voltage, as well as frequency.

Is it technology that worked or what? if so what's the turbine type? Any Idea?
@dannycastillo6107
@dannycastillo6107 7 лет назад
Yes, this is called Yaw mapping. It is a safety feature. If the turbine rotates too fast, the blades, which are flexible, can actually strike the tower. So the angle of the blades adjust to cut wind, and face the wind, so there is less resistance. If they simply shutdown and the brake was applied, then the tower would flex until it snaps from sway.

murali manohar wind turbines do not create any gas emissions, however, it makes noise and also kills birds. But of course the manufacturing of them produces pollution and metal mining also. Hope this helps.

Best off using Nuclear fuels (Besides traditional Uranium fuels), Fusion is promising but still isn't capable of commercial use, on the other hand, Fission is promising if newer generation reactors are introduced, such as thorium, but that's wildly expensive to update.

Windmills can change directions, and therefore control how fast the blades are turning. So I guess in some capacity they could actually "turn the windmill down". Here is a video of how a windmill turns: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BYF5enKEJEE.html

Notice how the rotor speed drops off towards the end of the video. As their electricity production went to zero, these wind turbines could have caused a brown-out or black-out. Fortunately, there were reliable nuclear and fossil fuel plants providing 100% back up to these unreliable wind turbines.
@illuminate4622
@illuminate4622 3 года назад
Umm... What? There were other turbines in that area and farther away, increasing production to compensate. It's literally the weather fronts moving to different area. They're always somewhere. The transmission systems are being upgraded to accommodate the location fluctuations. Also, nuclear and fossil plants generally don't backup intermittent renewables. They can't ramp up and down so fast. It's hydro doing that "backup". As the wind blows and sun shines, it saves water behind the dams, which can be used during the wind lulls and at night. It's also being increasingly done with batteries, cryogenic air, hot rocks and such better forms of storage. Look up the Hornsdale Power Reserve in South Australia. More such ones are being built around the globe.
@travisclem3297
@travisclem3297 3 года назад
