Aviation video @ Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (KDMA/DMA)! Filmed on 11/6/21, this features the “The Desert Lightning Team (DLT) CSAR Demo”: a demonstration of the aircraft and techniques used in a Combat Search & Rescue (CSAR) exercise by the 355th Wing. Highlights from this demonstration include:
- Pararescuemen (PJ’s) jumping from a HC-130J Combat King to simulate downed airmen from a jet that was shot down.
- A two-ship formation of A-10 Thunderbolts that take control of the communications.
- A two-ship of HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters that pick-up the downed airmen.
- An HC-130J flying in formation with the helicopters to perform in-air refueling.
- An EC-130H Compass Call that disrupts enemy communications, radar, and command-and-control targets.
- A-10’s suppressing fire from threats as the Pave Hawks infil two PJ’s with a “fast rope” to stabilize and protect the downed airmen.
- HH-60 Pave Hawk hoisting the PJ’s and downed airmen into the helicopter and aircraft will departures.
The 355th Wing (355 WG) is the host unit of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, whose mission is to provide close air support (CAS), air interdiction (AI), forward air control (FAC), combat search and rescue (CSAR), ground-based tactical air control, and airbase operations.
