I’m getting the HD560s…heard that it’s neutral and works really well with EQ. While gaming and doing some content creation work, the neutrality and soundstage helps but when enjoying some music, probably gonna tune it with EQ and hopefully it doesn’t need too much tuning like my Epos H6 Pro which just sounds very harsh and bloated bass for basically anything. Biggest expensive mistake of my life.

I went from Hifiman Aryas to the 560S (had to sell the Aryas because of moving costs), and I was blown away by the detail retrieval of the 560S. Amazing value for money. Perfect for gaming and movies with a Dolby Atmos license. Definitely the most neutral headphones I’ve ever heard, and that makes them so good for gaming and movies. I highly recommend a DAC/amp for them. I use the iFi Zen DAC V2. Powers them really well.

Thank you for this outstanding comparison. These must be the the three most bang for the buck headphones and obtainable for a wide audience. I love the way you differentiate between Hi-Fi (analytical, true to the source) and audiophile (more pleasing, less detailed). Lets hope that this does not cause a flame war.

Actually the term hifi is complementary to audiophile. I think he means monitoring/analytical versus music enjoyment/hifi use. The term audiophile applies to modern music as much as older music. Less detailed is not the same as less pleasing, it also depends a lot on what types of genres you listen to or how you use a headphone to able to make a good choice on what kind of headphone you will prefer. But generally this means more headphones if you listen to a lot of different genres, or if you only want to have one, something at a much higher price category.

J. Gordon Holt and Harry Pearson (and the many others of that cohort) are rolling over... I've been watching the evolution of this. We can change and make up and kind of discussion we'd like. Hi-Fi and audiophile from the earliest days had been synonyms; what goes in is exactly what comes out, nothing added or removed, with the ultimate objective being an exact, or at least palpable, experience of the recorded event in your space. What the audiophile was seeking in loving audio was the high fidelity (highly accurate, truthful, faithful to the original event) reproduction of what ever audio thing was being reproduced. It's certainly not that simple, and there're a lot of bits and pieces to that. The language, and the world, of audio reproduction has altered. It's gotten a lot broader and inclusive of things that otherwise wouldn't have been been included. Some for the better, some perhaps not. Though whichever, audio kit is better now, with value being off the charts compared with what it had been, than it's ever been. So, I'm going to call that axiomatically a good thing.

How do you feel about them in general? Also for gaming?
@rrtind
@rrtind 2 года назад
@@TroublezAhead00 Hi there. Generally (i.e. for sound quality, comfort and durability) I think the HD 560s are great for the money. Like many things in life, an item’s strengths also have their counterbalancing weaknesses. For example, the HD 560s are rugged and durable (a strength) but also look and feel very plasticky (a weakness). The HD 560s sound clean, precise, detailed, analytical and extended (all strengths if you like this) but can also sound less warm, less soothing, less forgiving of poor recordings, and can become fatiguing during longer listening sessions (all weaknesses if these things are unappealing). The soundstage isn’t too narrow and the presentation doesn’t just feel like it’s all in your head (a decent strength) but at the same time the soundstage isn’t massively deep or full either, which leads to an average ability to place sounds in their correct space within the soundstage (potentially a weakness). But it’s important to consider all the above in the context of how much they cost. I think the performance is excellent for the money, as long as you like their sound profile and presentation. One other thing… I quite like that the cable plugs firmly into just one side (the left side) of the headphone, which keeps the cable nicely out of the way and it makes wearing a wired headphone feel less messy. For gaming, they’ll do a decent job. Would say don’t expect miracles. These won’t be the best for gaming but they won’t be the worst either. If your priority is more on listening to music (especially hearing the analytical details in music) and less on gaming, then these are a top buy for the money. But if gaming is more the priority, then take the advice given by DMS in the video and invest in a proper and well regarded gaming headphone. Hope this all helps.

Great review!! I'm humbled by how you seem to be blown away by the performance of the 560S. I fancy myself an audiophile, but I don't presume to possess your body of technical knowledge. I relied in large part on this review to pull the trigger on the 560S. Being retired and on a very limited income, price vs performance is key with me. I snagged a pair of these directly from Sennheiser, refurbished, for 100 bucks, with full factory warranty. That, combined with generally glowing reviews of these cans, convinced me that I couldn't pass on the opportunity. They're to be delivered in two days, but I can't try them out until the interface cables I ordered are delivered next week. Can't wait!! I intend to use them solely for music/movie listening on both my TVs. My main entertainment system is controlled by a Yamaha HTR 75W per channel receiver/amp. They will interface with my bedroom system via an RCA splitter connected to the internal variable-output analog DAC/amp in my second TV. Fingers crossed that this all works as planned! Hey DMS, love your videos, very informative. I would love to see a review or at least get your thoughts on the AKG K712 Pro. You can get it shipped to the US for about $250 all in so I think it's a good competitor to the three headphones mentioned here.

I can tell u! The akgk712 pro are AMAZING for gaming like just as good about 99.5% as good as 560s and pc38x for gaming but have even more detail slightly. The 2 downsides are 1. Build quality is a gamble many reviews and people state that they can break easily. 2. The sound signature is VERY neutral and bass light, these are God tier headphones for gaming and great for music too IF u like VERY FLAT reference tuning. If not then you'll only love them for gaming

Yo, DMS! I wish you made a video about the behind the scenes of the headphone industry. How does one go about building a headphone? What can and can't be tuned? How is that done? What things can a manufacturer to change their headphone sound signature (maybe Sennheiser would be a great example - very similar chassis but different sounds from each one). Being a relatively new comer to this community I'd appreciate that a lot!

Thank you for the review. It seems the 560s may be closer to my Grado Rs2E in transparency. I love the imaging and timber on the Rs2E. I have the HD 600 and the HD 559. The 600 is a pain to drive with amps. It makes me put them away for long stretches of time. Come to think of it, I have never married myself to the HD 600. Just too picky of a headphone for me. On the other hand the HD559 is really interesting to listen to across all the styles of music I like. Rock, Jazz,Classical, folk, acoustic blues, electric blues. My reference system is Mcintosh Amp, preamp, eq, and speakers. I use Headroom and JDSlabs CMOYBB headphone amps. I have had an IFI Zen dac/amp, Lokje PS 20 , Schitt Magni Uber 2. The Headroom which is 13 years old and the CmoyBB sound better to me with both Senns and Grado.

I have both the 6XX and the 560S and they sound quite different to me. The 560S sounds much more like the tin hifi P1 to me which is fine with some setups but can be slightly fatiguing with others. The 560S does have better soundstage for sure but the 6XX is so much less fatiguing every time that I still prefer it.

Yeah the 560s isn't close in terms of resolution and detail like he said. And I agree the timbre, and also the overall tonality, is so much more natural and rich sounding. The 560s does have a nudge in treble, but it sounds tinny and artificial. I also agree with him that the 560s has the better soundstage.

Hey DMS, just wanted to tell you, this is most helpful review I watched past 2 weeks and I've been doing so audio research. I realised that I stopped enjoying music when switched to HD440 BT and was looking for information about good quality wired headphones and I need to say, it is really hard to find information for mere mortals what to buy. I really like you mentioned if you need amps for those - it is really important information for people entering "mid-range" audio and plenty of other audiophile channels / websites just skips that and compares 300$ headphones on 2k+$ amps since usual audience is well informed already, which was a shame in my opinion. I feel like there is a hole for entry level content with some tips on what to buy that would allow you to upgrade in the future without buying new setup every few months and stockpile ton of hardware because of that. Keep up the good work!

Spend the most on the headphone, any of the HD600 or 500 series is fairly easy to drive despite the impedance because of the sensitivity, it'll probably get loud enough in most anything and be at least 80% of the sounds as spending twice as much on an amp too. You can get an amp later, or something like the fiio BTR5 for a balanced output, high res Bluetooth receiver/external computer or phone DAC, and is just enough to drive the 600's well enough, especially using balanced output.

Alright so I currently own the HD560s and the HD650 (basically the 6XX), and have owned but given away the Tygr 300r. In the most simplest of terms, the HD560s is my favorite of the three by far (it's not even close) because of the unbelievable clarity. Everything just sounds so good in them. The HD650 is a relaxing listen, but definitely not as clear as the HD560s. That's not to say it isn't clear, but it sounds like there is a thin sheet for lack of better words over whatever you're listening to compared to the HD560s. The Tygr 300r were the most warm and had a lot of bass which I just wasn't into. It's funny because before I got into the whole audiophile scene, I felt like I needed a lot of bass and now it's something I consider not very nice. Comfort wise, I really like all three. I could wear any for 5+ hours no problem. Btw, I should mention I listen to music using Amazon HD tracks with a modi 3 / Asgard 3 stack.

They're sharp but not the point where it hurts. They're not the DT990s (I own the 990 600ohm variant.) I find myself using the DT1990s more than all my other headphones because 1. I love the coiled cable, and 2. they work for pretty much anything. I don't think their sound profile is as good as the HD560s or warm and pleasant as the HD650, but they just work. I use the analytical pads on mine and they sound great. Close to neutral, but a bit bright with punchy bass. Anyways, I play games and it would be cool to have great accuracy in Valorant and CSGO for instance, but I also want the headphones to sound really good with music, i listen to lofi, oldschool rap, edm, indie rock, a lot of different genres lmao. Again, and again. The value for money of audio today is the best it's ever been and it's still getting better. Better gear for fewer and fewer dollars. I have the original Sennheiser HD-580 Precision. Build quality? It's like new. Looks like new, sounds like new. When I first got these, I disliked them immensely. Coming from two-channel speaker audio, I wanted finally give headphones a try. Compared with my Magnepans and Conrad-Johnson tube monoblocks, even with a nice Pete Millett headphone amp and very pricey, large-chassis external DACs, the 580s sounded like my ears were filled with cotton. Revisiting this more recently, I committed full-on to the Sennheiser thing and got a set of 6XXs and built up a couple of different Bottlehead tube amps. Yep, lovely. Accurate, linear,? Nope. But just lovely. A unique experience, and a very notably pleasant one. It can come close with some other gear, but the whole tubed/Senn experience is a beautiful thing. I recall seeing the design brief for the 650/6XX, and what I recall as comments by Axel Grell, that the 650 was a tuning/damping experiment with the goal of a headphone that was just easy to listen to. A note about the 58X Jubilee vs. the 6XX, and I've seen others mention this. The 58X is a nice headphone, but it sounds the same with whatever gear it's working with. The 6XX can change character quite a bit with equipment change.

But before u tell me the model i will tell u that my Favorite Headphones are HD 660s and Sundara but for different reasons , with those 2 i am fully satisfied because they are different and so good on what they do . For example SUndara are the kings on Seperation and Clarity on highs nothing can compare from all the other headphones that i have , BUT Sundara do sound Metalic some times and colder with Soundstage that some people will like this big presentation and some people that like Closer in your head vocals surrounding by instrument's will choose HD 6 series. HD 660s on the other hand they have the same detail like Sundara but not pushed to you like Sundara its there but u have to listen carefully because Vocals on HD 660s are closer to you and the Kings on vocals are again HD 660s , also Imaging on HD 660s are better than Sundara pin point direction is easy to understand on HD 660s i guess smaller soundstage helps with that. Also HD 660s dont have the seperation and air between instruments that Sundara have... the instruments on HD 660s blend together like u hear the music in Real life ... To put it simple Sundara are like DIgital era that someone has take all the instruments clean them and move them far from each other, On HD 660s are smooth like analogue sound and instrunmenst sound like they are on the same room with U .... The tygr have quite a bit better imagining and turn the bass down that most people claim is more than it actually is. I do not find the BASS on my TYGR EVER interfere with my tracking anyone down step for step in EFT which is the only fps game I play. My 560s are ok but can not compete with the TYGR man I do not know what else to say. I go from the 560s to the tygr and I feel like i enabled a cheat.

Waiting my Tygr's 300r to arrive, already have the hd58x so let's se how they compare
@Crusher91
@Crusher91 3 года назад
For anyone interested, i like the Tygr 300r more than the 58x that i have been maining for the last 2 years, they have more bass, more highs, slightly less mids but still good, and the soundstage and imaging it's very good, especially if it's paired with a decent amp/dac, comfort wise i prefer the Sennheisers because of the oval shape earpads that fit my ears like a glove, in the Tygr's they touch a bit my upper part of the ear having the rounded pads, lets see if with a bit of use the pads became more lose, build quality Tygrs >>> Sennheisers, 100 % recommended buy.

where would you categorize the Focal Elex among these 3 headphones? Early on I've seen people say it's like a suped up 6xx, so I'm wondering if you'd agree on that take. Great for music, less good for games, but good enough. I love my music but I also need my directional audio and I wonder if I'm handicapping myself in games by using the Elex.

If you had an LGV40 to drive headphones with, would you get the 6xx or the 560s? I had the 6xx before, and fell in love, although I don't want to carry around an amp or pay for one at the moment.

How does the the 560s compare against the Hifiman Sundara/Ananda?
@soraflame66
@soraflame66 2 года назад
Those are way better but the 560s are still a great headphone. If u want a very very neutral heasphone, enjoy that sound signature for music (I mean literally flat sound) and also want great competive gaming headphones then the 560s are very hard to beat at 155-200$. If u want a overall better heasphone for music with tuning made for music then DEFINITELY buy the Sundara/Ananda over the 560s albeit more expensive.

I have a friend who bought a pair and as me being an owner of 650's i was very curious in how they sounded, straight up they sound more like 600 than 650, imagine a 650 with better bass sub bass and more treble but a slightly grainier mid range.

Excellent. I've been using the 598 Cs (closed back) for awhile now, and just got the Panda for travelling, but I am interested in adding a pair of open backs to my collection. The 6XX would require me to get an amp, but it seems like the 560S could run off my audio interface, and the analytical behaviour seems like it would compliment my occasional music production. With the easy to run 598 and Panda, I don't need the super low impedance of the 300R for portability, but good to know it exists. As someone who has been looking at the 6XX for awhile now, really nice to have this comparison, now to decide if I actually want to spend another few hundred dollars on headphones this year :/
