The composite compatibility is for Zapper users, it's better and more thoughtful than their retron 5 that couldn't use light guns at all

This is quite the lovely system imo. The color scheme and design look very nice, as do the controllers themselves. I also really love the fact its a 2 in 1 combo. That being said, Its a real shame this system still doesnt get the audio or colors right for NES. Perhaps with a bit of tinkering on your tv settings the colors could be fixed? Regardless, the audio issues are a huge turn off for me and sadly destroy any hopes in me buying it :/.

Try using the console on CRT. The NES never was really designed with a specific color palette, it varied upon what brand CRT you were using back then, and even specific CRT units from the same brand. Using these consoles on HDMI always throws off the color dramatically, like the purple pink skies in the OG Super Mario Brothers. Try these clone consoles on a CRT through AV, you'll get closer to the authentic colors.

Wow those are some long controller cords. Still watching hopefully it runs the flash carts. Edit: Holy crap it ran the NES Flash Cart! I would of loved this thing but now I have a real NES and SNES. It's amazing that they finally did it.

i have one of their older nes+snes combo units that is at least 3 years old that plays my Everdrive just fine. Not sure about SNES, as I don't have a flash cart for it. Anyway - that's been working for a while now.

@@BobBorakovitz It was always one of the two that wouldn't play flash carts. Usually it was the NES flash carts that wouldn't work. When I first came back to retro games I really wanted a combo setup that would play them both.

Never thought about these until about last year. The fact that it looks almost like my old grey and purple box makes me want it so much more. R.I.P my old Super Nintendo. Served me well for over 2 decades before it decided to just stop turning on.

I think the color and sound problem occurs when you use HDMI but if you connect via AV to a CRT TV I think it works practically the same as the original

Hey man LOVE your channel! Always the latest stuff, brutally honest! Anyway, saw this new video and was surprised to find out it's new! I thought it was an old video....Retron went backwards? Anyway, this is weird, I assumed all Retrons were emulated. I think what you have there has already been released hardware due to its features: 720p, PAL/NTSC, 4:3/16:9 switch, plays NES and SNES, etc...there were 2 of them: the Gamerztek Super HS 2 and the Classiq 2. I also have a clone called Pound Challenger that has all the same features but only plays SNES. Unlike the others, it's got a nice eject button. I've noticed that it's gone up in price a little, as I got mine for $30 new and shipped. The Garmerztek I got slightly used for $40 chipped. I think the Classiq 2, and other similar clones have all recently gone up a little, around the $70 mark. Anyway, I also have a Super NT, but I think most people will buy this basically to play their NES games in HD. I agree with the 4:3, can't stand the games stretched, but I honestly can't play them on a wide monitor because it annoys me. Fortunately, I have a few 4:3 lcds. Anyway, this seems like it's playing off real hardware, not emulated, correct? I willing to bet all these systems have the exact same guts inside. Keep up the good work man!

Really great video. Very detailed. Would some zoomed in footage and maybe a comparison be possible? Also does the SNES side have the extra blur with motion like the Supa Retron HD?

In term of colour palette, NO ONE is accurate. The reason? The composite palette that we are used too is not that accurate from the start. Your word "familiar to" is the correct description of retrogaming palette situation. That's why there are so many colour palettes to choose from on high-end clone like Retro-AVS or NTmini.

I was hoping they would fix the issues with their SNES and NES systems with this new duo but it seems like they just dumped them into the same box and repackaged it. I think this is cheaper than buying them individually though so that's nice. I always enjoy the look of their systems but I wish they would spend a little more time fixing issues. No SNES eject button tho WTF Hyperkin.

They did at least fix a few issues. NES flashcarts now work, NES slot doesn't have a deathgrip, and no Hyperkin splash screen when booting SNES games. The eject button isn't really needed as it was easy enough to pull carts out of the Supa Retron. The biggest issue is the color palette accuracy, which is not fixed.

@@LUCKO2022 Hyperkin has made improvements to other products so they aren't deaf to consumer feedback. With them recently asking for opinons this and the upcoming n64 hd clone i expected some changes mainly on the nes side.

I was wondering how the audio was on this compared to the Super Retro Trio Plus. I own the Super Nt and AVS, but I do like these budget clones as well. Reason I am asking is the sound and picture on SNES part of the SRTP is pretty bad. From your footage the Hyperkin SNES part looks and sounds better out of the budget clones. So what are your thoughts on that aspect of it?

The image is soft, like you said it's probably just composite video via the hdmi cable. It'll look much better via the AV cable on a CRT.

Personally I think that's a really tantalizing option for what you pay for it. I'm curious if super fx snes titles would play on it. Secondly, curious as to let's hear what Dracula's curse sounds like where it has that special sound chip in that cart. But 75 clams is a hell of deal IMO. Hyperkin is doing what other dont. Giving quality retro to hd options for an extremely affordable price point. Thanks for the video bruddah!

I have a Super Nt and two official SNES systems and 2 NES's and flash carts for both systems and real games for all my retro systems. This looks like a good substitute for a real SNES and NES. I also have a Retron 5 and like it all my games the system supports work flawlessly for the most part.

background scrolling in NES mode is not smooth compared to Retron 1HD. But they improved the colors.

I was hoping they’d fixed the colors on the SNES, since I need an HD SNES with decent colors and 4:3 aspect ratio. I’ve got an HDMI modded NES (it’s my favorite console, so I spent the money on that), so I’m good with that, but I did like the colors on that cadet. If Retro-Bit had an aspect ratio on their consoles they’d be a winner.

The contrast issue seems a little better than it was on the SupaHD. Turtles In Time has vivid colors, and needs to be your benchmark for SNES clones, because if you didn't use it in both reviews, I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Also, TEAR IT DOWN :)

great review thanks, not sure if i missed you explaining it but it looks like pixel smoothing is switched on? is there a setting for this or just how it comes out? I definitely prefer a sharp pixel picture than aliased.

The system isn't perfect, but hey it's playing all the carts most people will want to play. If you're not hard core to the bone on color or sound, this could be nice. Not sure about the special chip games playing in the everdrive/flashcarts, but that would be a nice test. I know Contra 3 on Snes in the top down levels have issues with sd2snes on the SupaRetron personally. If you could do a test of these games on flashcarts that would be awesome!

compared to what used to be in older TV around the time these game were new and the fact that these games had audio that was mixed using a simple synthesizer you have to think if the audio goes thru any type of up scaling it would probley sound crappy due to the compression rate conflicting with the higher quality speakers but the color pallet is probley off due to you either having a led or lcd the CRT monitor has a better color pallet

Excellent review! I wasn't thinking it was to bad, until the Super Mario Test.....YIKES! Definitely NES On a Chip. I don't understand as I have cheap China $14 handhelds that have better color and sound on that game than the Hyperkin does. But Again, as you said not a bad alternative for those that aren't too picky. Thanks again for that in depth review!

I would be okay with slightly tight ports. My big question or 2 actually. 1 does it have a save state and 2 can I turn games into roms and store them within the console? Edit: Just looked up what the Ever Drive actually is. quite expensive but I guess you can put all the games on it.

I think these alternative consoles (clone, fpga, emulation, mister) should be reviewed as best to worst in a price range. Beat sub $75 oprion, best sub $150 option and best unlimited price - or something along those lines.

I don't like the idea of using a cartridge slot to dump the games as roms to be able to play them. In these cases I prefer solutions like a modded PS classic for playing retro roms. Otherwise I want real hardware or hardware that mimics the original hardware for using real cartridges. I like both kind of solutions, but this, that tries to be somewhere in between are really of putting I think.

I just bought this console. It will NOT work on my 2016 Gen Sony smart tv. I purchased a new hdmi, and an av to male adapter to try the av cables but my TV won't recognize the console. Plug it into both hdmi and av on an older TV, works fine.. any ideas?
