"Will we ever resume work in the main house?" is easily answered: in your own time. You no longer have to live at a landlord's whim...you ARE the landlords. You have the freedom to choose which project to do, or to just lay around and loaf for a day or three. There are other restoration videos to watch, but the reason I love yours the best is because you truly have joy in your hearts while creating your little slice of paradise, and you, unselfishly, share it with all of us. Thank you!

Suggestion: Clear the thick grass away from the fence on the street side. In the summer that grass will come through the fence and steal away the moisture and nutrients from your beautiful hedge. You dont want that! 🙂😊😁

Gardening Tip for future reference. When planting bare root stock it is advisable to set the roots in water ( I use a bucket) for several hours before planting. I love what you are doing in the garden,

Building your own paradise with vision, creativity and lots of hard work is so wonderful to share. Your four footed Field Overseer is an amazing little being. (a person, or cat, whose job it is to make certain that employees are working or that an activity is being done correctly). A boardwalk is a brilliant idea! I am sure the Overseer will walk it with style and grace and pride.

I never worry too much about nettles they are good in the garden. In bucket with water few weeks and you have free food for plants. If not too close to road; nettle soup is very good and the butterfly's lay their eggs under leaves. So many good things from nettles, enjoy them. This hedge will look amazing as colour of red beech is stunning. Good luck and be prepared for one or two to fail. ❤😊

Curious about whether your fence will eventually cause problems with your newly planted hedge. Will you have to take the fence out later to keep the hedge from growing out the other side of the fence? I love your “mini-catwalk” wooden pathway! That will be nice as it leads to a nice little wooden platform, deck, patio, terrace, lol, whatever you all call it. A couple of trees to eventually provide some shade over chairs would be nice too. : )

Nice to have a hedge now, it will make the garden so much more enjoyable, being out of the wind and the unwanted attention. The Lilac is a gorgeous tree, I have two, a lila and a purple one, soon they will be in blossom. The path is nice, but be sure to keep it free from algae, otherwise it will be like ice after the next winter, I found out the hard way myself!

honestly love the path, prevents compression of the soil, and looks like a nicer version of all the wood paths on any trail near me lol. i think it’s really nice how you chose a plant that does good for your local ecology, though it is funny to me how the european beech is seemingly so commonly used there for hedges and everything, whilst our american beech here just kinda exists in forests, though now less so because of disease ravaging it

We’re in Australia and use sugar cane to mulch. It’s important to fluff it up as you put it round as it can create a mat that stops water penetrating the soil. Possibly water is less of a problem for you than for us as you seem to have lots of water, but something to think about and to make sure that your new plants are getting sufficient water. Possibly rake through the straw mulch occasionally to make sure.
