My understanding is that after Queen Lili’uokalani was forced at gunpoint to abdicate, the Hawai’ian people did tell her they would fight to keep their independence. She said not to, the Americans would just kill you all. She may have been thinking of what happened to all the native people on the North American continent. And looking at what is happening in Gaza right now, you can see the genocide that happens when a people resist a colonizing power. But, seeing the support for Palestine among so many young American college students, maybe there has been a change in people’s attitudes toward this bullying? It’s important to keep pushing back. Look I totally agree with you. If you want the land back then take it back. King David Kalakaua was weak and didn’t fight back. I mean Queen Liliʻuokalani put up resistance but didn’t succeed. In all of history land gets conquered for one reason or another but complaining about it won’t help.
