I also look up the origins of a plant. Knowing where I grows tells you the conditions it grows in naturally, humidity, soil types, watering, fertilizer are all related to the true place a plant comes from .

Your Adansonii looks great ! I had trouble with the wide form, but my narrow form is doing well . I’m trying some scindapsus cutting in sphagunum moss & water, I have so many - I let my plant get too long and leggy - I’m doing a “Lee Experiment” for fastest growth! Your advise is always good! Don’t doubt yourself!

Thanks! Adansonii is one of my easier ones to grow. I don't have the narrow form but I do think it looks more interesting than the wide form.

hello there ! my baby andansonii don't want to grow since it is in soil, almost 1 year. (the cutting was growing in water for also a long time...). 1 leaf grows and then die when there is a second one coming, and so on.... I really don't understand. can you help me please ?

Lee, thanks for this great clip. It is very timely in my case bc I’ve just realized that I’ve been underwatering my plants - for fear of overwatering them! Everyone warns against overwatering and I guess that has scared me. My large monsteras were beginning to get brown edges on their leaves. Loved your presentation and the content. Thank you!

Why do you use bamboo poles and not something wider such as a cedar plank?

Sometimes I just use whatevers around. Adansonii stems don't really get super thick so I find they don't need a lot of extra support

I'm interested to see what the marble queen pothos thinks of the coco. I have a big thing about textures too, so I don't know if I would ever use it. I highly recommend using a razor when you cut anything off for propagating. It really does help you avoid any rotting. @techplant has a video doing an experiment with different cutting techniques and immediately changed to using razor blades after he did and had me change too after seeing the results. Your monstera adansonii looks amazing! I hope I can get mine to look that great one day.

.. Ooh boy 😳☺️ I'm so sorry, but those coco coir blocks just need to soak the water themselves, and then they are so easy to use.. And you can avoid the feeling of muddy fingers 😉🤗

I have one small monstera (2 plants in one pot) that had issue with rotting roots. I ended up making cuttings and putting them in water/vase and they grew really healthy looking roots and even new leaves came out in water. At what point should I put in soil, b/c It seems happy in water?

It's probably ready if it grew a new leaf. I usually wait for 3-4 inches of new root growth plus secondary roots.

Just found your channel and on an instant binge of your videos, love! Question, i can’t figure out the difference between low light and medium light and therefore understand what light my plants are in. Would you mind explaining this please?

This is THE big question. There are way too many philosophies for what = direct vs medium vs low light. I find it's easier to think of it this way. Most plants want as much sun as possible indoors. Find a balance in your home by moving the plants you want to grow the biggest closer to your windows (slowly to acclimatize them over time). Recognize when your plant has too much sun (leaf burn). Realize 'low light plants' are the ones that will just survive but not thrive, they still prefer more light.

My first summer with a monstera deliciosa. I bought it in November from a Facebook seller. She chopped most of it up and had the propagations in her house. The mother plant I took home and it’s been growing and very happy. However. I had it outside under cover except morning sun exposure for June and July . Just this week four leaves had black spots from the stem/veins emanating outward…pretty quick spread too. I’m wondering if this is a fungus issue or sun exposure? I brought it inside an am watching this fourth leaf to see if the black part grows like the other three leaves had done. What should I do? I love this plant. If it’s fungus should I repot it? How would I know if it’s a fungus issue? Your ideas/ suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I made a rounded trellis for adansonii out of pussy willow stems which I cut off after their second bloom of the season, gorilla glued them together, then wrapped the bonded joints in kitchen string made for roasts, just to make it look a little nicer and give a tight bond...omg my plant LOVES IT! The growth rate is now ridiculously fast and the leaves really responded well to being hoist up instead of hanging down. I can't even see the trellis anymore after a couple of months to even care about the aesthetic! Success!!! 😍 I just want to say thank you for all your videos! I changed my lighting and learned the front vs the back of the deliciosa stem and after moving it closer to my window slowly and adding a grow light, I now have 3 new split leaves (There were only two yesterday!) I couldn't have done it without your advice! May the plant Gods bless you over and over again, my friend! 🌼 🌼 🌼

I feel like I don't water my Adonsonii too much yet I am getting yellow leaves, not brown ones. What do you think would be the cause of that? Thanks for the video as always!

Thanks for watching. It could be lack of light or maybe even underwatering. I might recommend using a chopstick to feel all the way down to the bottom to see when the soil is dry.

Is it the oldest leaves that has turned yellow? The most common problem with houseplants is not enough nuteients, you need to feed them!

Remember to leach coir before using it. Sometimes it’s grown near salt water and may contain salts which would not be favored by plants!

Are the Marble Queen and Snow Queen the same thing? I purchased a Marble and a few months later I saw a Snow Queen online - they look the same.

They are. It's one of those times when people feel the need to rename a plant for marketing purposes. Just call it a highly variegated marble Queen.

Coco Coir is best prepared in brick form. One brick needs about a gallon of water. I use reverse osmosis water/ filtered. Pour it all on the brick after placed in foot tub. Pour water in and walk away. Usually takes about 15 minutes for water to breakdown the whole brick.

Why put a 5" pole, in a pot? Tthat you will repot to a larger pot within the next year? Is the plant going to grow that fast?

No, but I usually let my adansonii go 2 years sometimes more without being repot.

Hello I am getting massive black spots on my monstera. I've tried with flowers and plants since I got my first place and I'm 40. I kill them like a serial killer. It sucks! Gardening is where I shine. Lol. This year I researched everything I could about starting from seedlings. Got grow lights. The little grow pods. They did good for a while then blam all died. So I went and bought a few flowers for outside and some plants to keep inside. I'm trying so hard and every plant I bring inside here is dying. There's 4 that are doing good. One of them was my largest monstera. Over night she developed huge black spots on her and so did a cutting of one a lady gifted me. Any help would be much appreciated. I love flowers and plants and want to have an indoor plant collection. So far I've been watering twice a week. Not sure I've been giving them enough though. I'm using a pesticide. Making sure they get sunlight everyday. I need advice and wish I could post pics on here. Cause they're not small spots like I've been seeing in pictures. And they don't have any brown or yellow around them.

You are over watering them. By a lot. Water your plants less frequently and you should be good.

Ah, you love them to death. Monstera like to dry out. It is said to put your finger an inch into the soil to feel how dry they are. That all depends on the plants. Ferns would love you. Here is a better way. Water your plant until at least a little water comes out of the bottom. Drain the saucer. Pick up that plant. Feel how heavy it is? Now when you wonder how they are doing pick up the pot. If it still feels on the heavy side keep moving. If you pick one up and its a lot lighter water it. Monsteras like to dry out between waters. No standing water at all. So if you pick up your monstera and it has become really light give it water. Google the plants so you can get a better understanding of their needs. I have to google them over again to make sure I am remembering right, so dont think there is anything wrong with that esp if you have a diverse mix. Remember this. As the seasons change so does our watering and fertilizing. In full growing season they can require more water. in winter a lot less. This does depend on where you are located. I am in the northern US and no fert after sept and the watering goes down as the light does. Keep trying, you can do this. Some plants actually thrive on neglect.

@@dw3403 thank you! My neighbors across the hall have massive Monsteras. They have tons of beautiful plants. My 8 year old said Mom you need their help. So I was telling them my issues and they offered to help me. I was definitely over watering them but I had put them into way to big of containers. She put them in much smaller ones and they're thriving. My biggest one has beautiful new leaves on it. I'm so happy. I was telling them how much I've researched them and they both have never once googled anything on the care of their plants. They just have a green thumb. I'm lucky to have them. I have a kind of big monstera deliciosa that have been in only potting soil for all of its life. I would want to repot it into a better, well-draining soil mix (potting soil, perlite, orchid bark and charcoal) but I am scared that I might damage or even kill it. Should I do what you mention at 1:53 (replacing only 25% with each repot) or do you think I could swap more or even all of the potting soil? It is healthy and happy and have not had any issues after any of the previous repots.

I received a Monestera plant thru the mail not potted. It came wrapped really well and looking healthy. I left it in water and away from other plants for 5 days. I spotted it in soil, perlite, vermiculite, peat moss( of course this was before I found you). I watered it thoroughly with good drainage. The plant was rather large(24 to 30 inches tall) with many roots and was placed in a 10 inch pot. Previous owner did not specify what the original pot side was. Now one bottom leaf is turning yellow. Any suggestions.

Other than perlite everything else you used holds a ton of moisture. It may be a root issue. It may just be the plant adjusting still from being in the mail.
