Doohoon cried after this performance because he was so proud of Mingyu and he helped a lot with the performance, he mentored Mingyu with the emotions and the acting. they love each other so much and he was just so proud of him. He considers Mingyu his family and it was so emotional to watch but it also shows how close they have become.
Just today i've watched the episode of Phantom singer all stars with this performance. For me it was the most striking and memorable performance and it leaves a strong aftertaste. As i know Bae Doohoon was the one who helped a lot with showing spectrum of emotions to Mingyu. Doohoon was so proud of Mingyu after this stage. It was very emotional 🥲Also Forestella memebers said that Mingyu was the one who could handle this song really well.
This show pits groups against each other to crown the ultimate winner. One part of the competition is to have a solo from each group and then gets judged on that solo performance. Cho Mingyu was chosen from Forestella to sing the solo. I think he chose the song he wanted to sing for his own solo performance.
It's unfortunate that you are unable to see the comments of the judges of this performance as they are all famous Korean performers themselves. And this song resounded with them because the song depicts a performer who has been at the peak of his career and then is now no longer as acknowledged as they become older. And everyone could relate to performers who give it their all and but are not appreciated for their efforts. There were quite a few tears from them as they commented on Cho Mingyu's performance.

(JTBC blocked the videos only to Koreans so many times 😢) I think the reference is la Balada Triste de Trompeta on RU-vid the gran Rafaél in a gray suit with clown makeup. The ah ah ah is the trumpet crying for him while he's hiding his mind singing the lyrics. It was a solo performance representing the group in the Phantom Singer All Stars, and he said he'd sing for Forestella. Bae DooHoon mentored him the acting. Unlike other performances of Forestella, I can't watch this repeatedly because every time this hurts my heart and makes me tear up. Cho MinGyu himself chose this song. Even though the Phantom Singer All Stars was a kind of competition, Forestella wasn't taking it like something against other groups. They made great stages hard to do in another shows like Immortal Songs. (Especially their Inner Universe showed their artistry well, please check it in Phantom Singer All Stars version.)

Actually the Korean pronunciation for the Spanish double "L" does exist but you're right about the double "R's". They don't exist so no Korean words are rolled like Spanish words with the double Rs. And because Korean alphabet and vowels are very similar to the Spanish ones, it is easier for Korean folks to pick up the pronunciation, at least, than other, say, European languages. For example, the Spanish pronunciation for the letter "A" is pronounced "ah" and the Korean alphabet also has this pronunciation, written 아.

This is a footage from "Phantom Singer season 2", a Korean music show, in which the Forestella was born. It was a show where professional and amateur singers of Korea compete against each other, forming a quartet of 4 singers, at last. All performers chose what and how to sing for themselves. One of the Fore members, Doo-hoon Bae is a Musical actor and singer, so I heard he helped Min-gyu with the acting part. If possible, I recommend you watch the whole episode from the original. It will be fascinating not only to see how those 4 got together, but to listen to each of them giving outstanding performances.
This one's actually from Phantom Singer All Stars. It's a special season where the final 3 groups from seasons 1, 2, and 3 all came together to create some really amazing performances. They did different challenges each week that they could win, but there wasn't a final winner. It's so fun to watch!!
Waleska, to answer your question, Cho Min-Gyu picks all of the Latin/Spanish songs himself (no one is curating or "managing" him in this respect). In a recent Korean interview he did for his mono drama tour, he actually shows the viewers a vinyl of Astor Piazzolla who he is a major fan of. He also states that he has a penchant for 50-60's music which he thinks is more in line with the style and genre of music he likes to sing and perform. This explains why he went with Balada De La Trompeta. Hope this helps!
