One tip we were told was to NOT take out a loan... under any circumstance. It may sound like a pretty obvious thing. But the last thing you need is to start off our marriage in debt.

I honestly think the 2 worst things I've heard when it comes to planning weddings would be: 1. Inviting people you dislike, find uncomfortable being around, or don't even talk to 2. People spending way beyond their means, some even taking out loans to cover expenses

I always wanted a two year engagement so I could take my time with planning everything I didn’t know people thought it had to be within a year lol. I had a friend once who had a 7 year engagement and hadn’t made a single step towards planning anything then all of a sudden out of nowhere she posts an Instagram pic revealing she is pregnant and married to a DIFFERENT guy. Was quite the shock lol.

Not necessarily advise I got but more an assumption I made was that a lot of venues would be wheelchair accessible/friendly. My mother is permanently in a wheelchair and sadly a lot of venues where I was looking were not wheelchair accessible/friendly. I know this is a niche issue but for brides who have to plan around mobility issues please give yourself more time for venue hunting. I found venues that while the reception and ceremony space was accessible the bathrooms weren’t. Or vice versa. This is especially an issue in older cities with historical buildings that have not been fully converted.

Absolutely! I wish more places were accessible. My venue is fine but having a hard time finding a good photo spot that's wheelchair accessible (my mom is also in a wheelchair).
@vilwarin5635
@vilwarin5635 3 года назад
I have rejected some venues because they had too many stairs or the spaces were too far from each other. Not only because of our guests with movility issues, but also for the comfort of all the people wearing heels and of course, me, the bride wearing a huge big wedding dress and heels. I imagined myself falling from every staircase and that was a big deal (even when the wedding planner said it wasn´t an issue)
@wendysteele4508

Yes! I have a venue that I love the pictures, but need to visit to make sure it's wheelchair accessible. It's a chapel that I think was built before ADA requirements, so I'm not sure. I can see how this can be an issue that might be remedied with a couple ramps, but not on the morning of the wedding.
@GilliMarieMoody
@GilliMarieMoody Год назад
As a chaplain/officiant, I’ve been trying for a venue that is more accessible. My idea to rent a stair lift + attendant has yet to go over well(!). I may try for an additional venue to rent, as an alternative. Cheers.

Despite all the craziness of attempting to plan a wedding during COVID, my favorite part has been that very few people have been giving me unsolicited advice (compared to my friends who got married before the pandemic). My worst advice (from a co-worker): (1) You need to throw a really expensive rehearsal dinner to thank all your guests for being a part of your day. A back-yard BBQ just won’t do. You need to have a full open bar at a restaurant and nice food. (2) You need to give your guests nice favors. I went to a wedding once and they gave me Hershey’s kisses in a little bag. So cheap. In the moment, her comments caught me off guard. She basically told me I was being cheap with my ideas and needed to “grow up” and spend more money. Needless to say, I’m not taking her advice or inviting her to my wedding!

Saw this video way late, but during on of my wedding planning segments yesterday, I came across something on Pinterest that is so brilliant and I wouldn’t have thought to do so, but it says that some time before your big day (after final dress alterations) kick the groom out of the house and put in your ENTIRE wedding attire and practice walking in your wedding dress, shoes and all so when the day comes it doesn’t feel foreign etc 💯😁👍🏽

My MIL told me and my fiancé that “Weddings aren’t just about the bride and groom.” 🙄 Both of his parents believe that. They hate everything I’ve picked so far. They hated the hotel (so much so that they’re making my fiancé change it; I picked it but refused to change it so he has to), they hated that we’re getting married on Sunday (the wedding is in PA, his family lives in OH; it was an extra $3000 to get married on Saturday and his family would have to take a day off work whether we got married on Saturday or Sunday anyway), they also hated that the wedding is in PA where I grew up and not closer to them. I know my family. They would not have come if it was out of state. My fiancé’s family ALWAYS travels to every wedding. Hell, they all live in OH and traveled to NY when his older cousin got married, so in my opinion they can suck it up and go to PA. most of these concerns they have told my fiancé and not me. Probably a good thing to. I would surely be glad to explain to them how ridiculous they are. 😊😈

BEST ADVICE- Don’t let others influence what YOU want to do or wear or have at your wedding. It’s your big day and I promise you’ll regret not doing what you wanted. WORST ADVICE- spending money on super unnecessary things or inviting people you don’t want at your wedding. If you don’t need if and you’re fine without it don’t feel pressured to have it at your wedding, and your guests actually greatly affect the amount you spend.

Just got engaged last month, and we will have a longer engagement as we’ve set the date for summer 2022! I am glad we’re waiting because we are paying for all of it ourselves, so it will give us more time to save up some money! I’m also super indecisive and have anxiety, so not being rushed on anything will help greatly!! Luckily, because we are so early in our planning we haven’t had much for unsolicited advice, but I will say I was super relieved when both my very opinionated dad and also very opinionated soon-to-be father-in-law both told us that our wedding needs to be whatever we want it to be. My father in law also told us to delegate absolutely as much as we possibly can!! So I appreciate that advice big time!!

Ours is nearly 2.5 years in length. Best advice: You do NOT have to go into debt for your wedding! Do you, and if someone in your circle is toxic FEEL FREE TO LEAVE THEM OUT. I know most people want to actually get married at their wedding but because of COVID, my fiance and I are thinking about getting married at a courthouse (aka zoom wedding) in the next coming months and then our "wedding" will really just be like an anniversary party or a vow renewal. I know it doesn't sound romantic but 1) We're able to save up for it more by putting the party off and 2) I can go on his insurance if I lose my job or vice versa. It's just a party to celebrate our marriage so to us, it really doesn't matter when we actually get married :)

You should do it. There's no rules you have to follow. My husband and I are doing the same thing. We got legally married in June 2019 with a judge and my parents witnesses. It was a short ceremony and wasn't a big thing. We planned to have a destination wedding in Hawaii for June 2021. We booked our wedding venue, wedding coordinator, photographer, and videographer back in February 2020. But now have to postpone our wedding to June 2022 because both my husband and I got laid off from our jobs. We plan on saving again once we can. Our wedding in 2022 will be special since we will officially be exchanging our own vows at the ceremony and having our wedding on our 3 year wedding anniversary. This also gives us enough time to plan and pay for everything.

I personally think the engagement should occur when they both are ready to do all the preparations that are needed for a wedding, so within a year the wedding can happen. I would hate to be engaged for more than 1 year and a half, that's the most I can take. But I know some people might not think that way. Also, most people I know also get engaged by 1 - 1,5 years most, so I guess depends :)

My partner and I have been together for ten years. We got engaged December 2019 and the wedding isn't until October 2022 - nearly a 3 year engagement, and it was totally intentional. We wanted to get secure in our careers and save up for a wedding without changing our lifestyle! And honestly that time was so good for us, we've had so much space to figure out the hard compromises (I wanted like 300 people, he wanted 10 - we're doing 75) without feeling pressed for time.
@amandapatton9925
@amandapatton9925 3 года назад
My favorite advice was that my partner and I should each pick one thing that was most important to us about the wedding itself, and be willing to spend time and money on that thing. And everything else? Pick the cheaper or easier option. It really is making things a lot easier for us! It's easy to get sucked into a wedding world where everything has to be perfect, but when we're 80, we're really not going to remember what kind of napkins we had at our wedding, or what shoes the bridesmaids wore. Those aren't our personal priorities. But for the things that do matter to us most? Then I can fight my frugal side and prioritize it for a once-in-a-lifetime day.

I addressed early on what things i was not going to be upset about if they didn’t happen. Told my husband that if they were important to him that he could help make them happen, but that i couldnt do everything. Other advice is if you are someone who wants or needs to keep track of wedding expenses...do it as you go. Make a spreadsheet and just add as you go. I kept an itemized list, even had a section for who paid for what. If we were gifted anything etc. and it was way less stressful when i did it in the moment than the one or two times i was playing catch-up.

We're looking at a short engagement (3-4 months) and I'd love to see a video with tips and advice for planning a wedding QUICKLY! (If you already have a video on it, I must be forgetting lol). Love you and your channel!

Hey Jamie, Love your videos. My partner and I would like to plan a ‘non-wedding’ love ceremony, just to celebrate our love, our commitment and our relationship. I know you’re a WEDDING planner, but is there a way you could do a mini-series on this topic? How to present the event to relatives, what type of dress to choose (white??? or what colour???), how to designate ourselves, how to put together some kind of ceremony so we can exchange love words and so forth. I feel like it’s a HUGE topic. I would be interested but I don’t know where to start.

Before pandemic chaos in January 2019 we reserved a date in 2022 to save up and we got so lucky! Huge discounts and missed the insanity of 2020. Been engaged since spring 2019, best advice is take your time. Spending 2 years to plan has been so comfortable!

We got engaged in 2020, we started planning this year (once my divorce came through lol) and are planning to get the legalities out of the way as soon as we can (July) and then doing the big wedding in October 2024. If you can't wait to be married, I think honestly, just running to the courthouse as soon as you can and then having the party later is a nice option.

A problem we had with considering people’s needs is we had two separate people who needed the same thing (be sat right next to the bathroom). But they didn’t know each other so sitting at the same table wasnt an option. So we basically had to play a game of “who needs it more”...and then that person just didn’t come. Very frustrating.

I got married almost a year ago (next week is our first anniversary!) and both the best pieces of advice came from vendors: my seamstress told me to get a second inexpensive reception dress since I was wearing a family heirloom (my grandma's that is close to 100 years old) and I would have more fun if I wasnt worried about it the whole reception - she was totally right, there is chocolate on the reception dress and it doesnt bother me cause it was $200 total off rack and I could do the tiny bit of alteration myself. I would have died if I got that chocolate on the dress my great grandma hand-stitched and designed for her new DIL. And the technician who did all my hair growth scalp treatments (and saved my hair from my past abuse) suggested not saving cake for the first anniversary but ordering a new mini one and the same dinner for 2. So we are getting our new cake and the amazing butternut squash lasagna that everyone raves about (still) next Saturday for a nice romantic dinner.

I can attest to the length of engagement thing. My partner was adamant that we not be engaged for longer then 6 months (I think his intention was not to be one of those couples that gets engaged but never actually gets married) so due to finances, timing etc. we stayed in boyfriend/girlfriend status for about a year after declaring our intention to get married between us. Sometime before Christmas, we decided that February looks like it could work out. Do not plan a wedding in two months! I hate it, it sucks, its stressful. Don't make our mistake... if you are intending to get married and you are serious about it, just start planning... at least get some stuff picked out and look at timetables and such.

Best advice - how to go to the bathroom in a large dress. sit backwards on the toilet. Works Slick!! Worst Advice- If you invite one family person of a family, you have to invite them all. His mom didn't want to hurt feelings so she invited everyone and it made the cost so much more. His count was close to 100 and mine around 80. It made me very upset as the responses came back to see that all his parents family/friends were coming and none of mine were. It's the only thing that made me cry during the planning process. INVITE WHO YOU WANT, NOT WHO THE PARENTS THINK SHOULD BE THERE. EVEN IF THEY ARE PAYING!

Worst advice it's the bride and her mother's wedding. It should be what they want. Honorable mentions for worst advice: anything you can do to warm it up. , nuneutrals are your friend, pastels are your friend. Best advice: A string sucks tat with 2 singers doing melancholic tragedies throughout cocktail hours and dinner will set your pacing and theme as opposed to the default --clipped.

The "consider others" bit seems a bit harsh. Not that you should be oppressed by in-laws or whatever, but like be aware of accessibility options and making sure your family is reasonably comfortable if it's important to you that they be there

Coming from experience in considering our family in the planning, we missed out on some really important people we wanted there and dealt with some not so preferred guests because our parents both wanted a day in who to veto or accept. They both threatened to not support us. Both did in the end, but at a cost of time, money, and sanity.

Let's do it in 2020 instead of 2019... This was us. We baptized my brother's baby in 2019 and as godparents, we had a lot of expenses, so we decided to postpone our wedding to 2020 just because we didn't want the financial pressure. Here comes 2020, our wedding was supposed to be in June... lockdown happened, we postponed to October, then 3 days before our wedding the government banned all social events. After much crying and despair, with phones ringing day and night and everyone thinking they knew what was better for us, we decided to just go to church and get it done. 16 people allowed in church, then just a lunch with them, no party, no first dance, no traditions. At least I got to wear the dress. This will always be the greatest regret of my life, all I wanted since I was a little girl was to have a wedding. But alas the universe rarely gives us what we want.

Don't give up! As Jamie said in one of her videos, you can still have the wedding you dreamed of after things settle down down! I've seen lots of people have a "renewal of vows" wedding, and nobody would blame you if you wanted to do one. If you can and want to, go for it! =)

God loves you and created you, and sent his Son to die for you, to take the punishment for your sins. If you believe in Him, repent of your sins, and confess with your mouth, then you will be saved. The only wedding advice that really matters is to put God first, then your marriage will be blessed. God created the gift of marriage to show us how to be more like him and to love self-sacrificially.
@alicjaz2771

Tell that to people that stay in unhappy toxic or even abusive marriages. I guess going to church fixes that, lol
@Lady_V_C
@Lady_V_C 3 года назад
@@alicjaz2771 Well it's interesting you mention church, I never mentioned church in my comment. You imply sarcastically that church fixes things, I am not claiming that whatsoever. I'm sorry if you have been misled to believe the lie that church is the answer, that is not the case, only faith in God will fix problems in your life. There is nothing we can do to earn salvation, it is freely given because of God's mercy and grace. If you want a relationship with the God who created you and cares for you so much he sent his son to die for you, the only hope we have for salvation, then you will accept his free gift and follow him before it's too late. It's also ironic you imply unhappy, toxic, abusive marriages. My marriage could be classified as such, and yet, only because I know the relationship I have with God, and that my ultimate marriage to him in eternity far outweighs anything I go through in this life, I have hope. In fact, I know everything I go through God uses for something greater, my whole life is proof of that. It's because I serve him that my relationships have improved, and my husband has even changed for the better. Those in situations similar to mine need the hope that comes from God alone even more than most. I want everyone to know the hope that I have, so they can have it too!
@alicjaz2771
@alicjaz2771 3 года назад
@@Lady_V_C i could copy and paste my comment and change :going to church" to "believing in God". Suffering and staying in toxic relationships doesn't serve anybody - it actually teaches children toxic love and that they deserve to be treated badly. Believing in God doesn't automatically make anybody free from these humans flaws. They have to be worked on.
@Lady_V_C
@Lady_V_C 3 года назад
@@alicjaz2771 I never claimed to remain in a toxic or abusive relationship, everyone's situation is different, and people will have to make decisions for themselves regarding their health, safety, and the environment in which they raise their children. Deciding between making a marriage work or raising children without their father doesn't offer anybody and cut and dry and easy solution, life doesn't work that way, and I speak from experience. Only the love of Christ can show those around us what true love is, which is a self-sacrificing love, one that we can't show in our own strength. This circles back to my original argument here, that earthly marriage is only a poor foreshadowing of a perfect, spiritual marriage found with God in eternity. And nowhere do I claim we don't have to put in work ourselves, but only God, through his sacrifice of Jesus Christ, can free us from slavery to sin. That is true freedom, and everyone needs that hope. The wonderful blessing God gives us despite what we've suffered, is his plan for our lives. No one's suffering or pain goes to waste when your faith is placed in Him. What a wonderful thing! I suppose you will have to experience God's working in your own life to truly know the hope and joy and peace He brings.
