Best is subjective as always. For me it’s Wilt vs Russell. Wilt vs Kareem. West vs oscar. Walt vs Pearl Caldwell vs Gus t Mac vs Kobe lbj vs melo MJ vs nique bird vs king etc…. Domonique and Jordan streetball duels are even better than the nba ones
- one of the most powerful dunkers (outside of Kemp or Dawkins). The man scored over 26,000 points on an inside game. We sleep on him b/c no championship. Plus, MJ and Bird overshadowed him in the East.
Equals? No. Jordan was better and Bird was too. He wasn't thoroughly outclassed or out of his league, though. Also, yes, Dominique is super underrated these days, but who from the past isn't? ESPN only talks about Jordan and LeBron, and really just uses Jordan to try and boost LeBron. All the old players are dismissed as plumbers by trash "analysts" who just say what kids want to hear.
I'm pretty sure Bird is responsible for his Achilles tear from that one time he broke Dominique's ankles. It may have taken years, but the seed was planted.
4:58 i didn't know this. That's crazy. Him and Wilt are the only 2 to drop 3000+ in a season. And to think, that's during a time where defense was actually played.
Ik it's a pretty wildly known story and hell everyone even knows when this game took place, but i would love a recap of the Kobe amnesty game for this series
I love this series, Jonny, please do keep it going. Not only are they very entertaining but they're also great for preserving the legend of these players that have been out of the league for some time.
Nique is my favorite player of all time. Not only was he spectacular on the floor, but he is one of the most loveable, respected, and well spoken professionals I ever seen and met. As a kid he just appeared to have so much style and charisma and POWER to me. Got a ball, jersey, and Olympic jersey signed by him last year.
I remember watching this game. It was intense. To this day I still say there has never been a been basketball player than MJ in the late 80’s early 90’s. Being from Chicago, if I couldn’t go to the Stadium I was watching it on WGN or SportsChannel, etc. I never missed a Bulls game. Dominique was a great player and I remember being shocked when he was left off the original 50 greatest players list in 1996. The fact he ruptured his Achilles and came back almost just as good is still amazing to me.
@@noyou113 To be honest not all that much from what I have seen. There are certain instances where someone might say that he reminds them of MJ but, nowhere near how similar Kobe was. One of the reasons is that Anthony Edwards has better bigs around him that the plays go through unlike the Bulls where the majority of the plays went through him. I will have to watch more of his games to see if he is more of the offensive focus now.
Larry bird dropping 60 on the hawks and the hawk bench in amazement over it. A classic larry bird game. Another great story is the game in which MJ was waiting outside of the stadium of a game against Washington and C webb and J Howard pulled up and MJ smoking a cigar asking who is guarding him, they answered and he smiled and drove off. Love your work man and keep it up! You are one of the few NBA youtube channels i watch and just admire and enjoy your work. Thank you.
Even when he said he would "kick Scottie Pippen's butt", he hinted at the fact that he was rambling because he was so mad. It all adds up considering he won that game.
I love Nique. He's a damn cool guy and he loves basketball. He was a terrific player, unfortunately he gets very overlooked cos he played in the Hawks and never won, but the people who played him in the 80s, know he was elite. Damn, he was out of the top 50 players in 1997, a crime which they fixed with the top 75 fortunately
Nique was a truly explosive scorer and he also had good rebound numbers and blocks especially for a small forward. He never had a finals worthy supporting cast in his prime. He gets slept on simply because he never won a title. He played in the same conference as the Bird led Celtics, Bad Boy Pistons, and MJ Bulls during his prime. He always rose to the challenge and put up huge numbers in the playoffs and competed in the dunk contest even as a big star...but stars didn't shy away from that back in the day of what I would consider the prime of the NBA. He also deserved to be on the Dream Team more than anybody else left off in my opinion even Isiah.
Two stories I'd be interested in: 1. The game Tracy McGrady said he didn't even recognize Kobe in the first half, then Kobe said while he might end up in prison, he'd be damned if he lost basketball, and came out inthe second half on fire. 2. Larry Bird's left handed game.
I’d like to see a pieced-together story of Shaq’s career high 61 on his birthday in 2000 - he’s told the story on several different NBA Open Court episodes with varying details but always very entertaining like only Diesel delivers. 😂
Great video! As always! How about a video detailing Byron Scott telling Michael Jordan he won’t be playing because of an injury, and Michael Jordan predicted he would drop 50 points on whoever was guarding him that night.
It was the 6th grade and was just getting into basketball, this was one of the first games I ever watched... The game and speed was amazing to watch when compared to more defensive teams of that era... Absolutely couldn't get enough of it... and I was hooked.
Man this is such a great concept for a video! Love it keep them coming please! Also, I thought I was losing my mind during the whole video to some Mandela effect type stuff cause I knew Scottie wasn’t supposed to be in the league yet lol
@@danielbrown3461 Who cares. Stats are completely inflated in today's game, across the board for everything offensively. Giannis doesn't have a reliable shot to speak of, and dropped 64...Today's game is easy peasy offense.
@@danielbrown3461 Luka would be on the bench for his poor shot selection and lack of defense.. If you want to be honest, Detlef Schremph would be a 12 time all star in this current era
The lack of Defence is NBA wide. Players taking time getting back up court after thumping their chests in self congradulation. I'd say your typical NBA Player gives about 60% effort. Makes it look like they are giving 80% in disguise. Luka plays as good of Defence as anyone.@@grammysworld5449
Bro. This was UR best video. I look at how they Is a perform on the biggest stage & how well they make their other teammates when u play in a era when u can't even hand check Some1 on Def. Like LJ does imagine what Bird's stats would be or Kareem.
Awesome video, Jonny! Dominique's recollection of the game is so accurate and I think the second most accurate one in this series thus far (with Garnett's being the most accurate). I hadn't heard of this game (I had heard about the rivalry they shared, but not this game specifically), so I really enjoyed getting to learn about it here. You did some great research and I was intrigued all throughout. I know MJ has the highest PPG average, but I couldn't help but say "wow" when I heard about how he had 3,000 points that season. I also thought that MJ would pull out the victory - especially since he usually does when he's highly motivated and trash talks. But, I wasn't 100% surprised, given how this was during his early years (when, as you indicated through the Bulls record, the Bulls weren't the championship team they'd be in the 90s) and how Dominique was a great player too with a solid Hawks squad. Great work again. Have a great rest of the week, Jonny!
❤️ this series. Maybe do the Bird one where they take his basket away and yet he tells the defender that he's going to shoot the same shot in the same place and then ices it
It occurred in ‘87, towards the end of the season. He had 61 points. We already know it’s the 61 pt game, he’s talked about this before and the highlights have been shown over it.
@@Real_Michael_Jordan Nice try there. Lmfao, because somebody corrected something and mentioned the fact that it’s been mentioned before in multiple places in a RU-vid comment, that means YOU somehow know something like that…. Lmfao. What a narcissstic fool. Sit tf back down kid, nice try.
I don't know if 3000 points in a single season is going to be touched any more even with volume 3s and the faster tempo offenses. That's 37 points per game for 82 games. Even if you manage to get 83 regular season games because of a trade, that's still 36 points per game. Nobody does that any more.
Dominique was a great player and he was a equal to Mj and bird in their era But over time he is getting slept on even tho he was a good player and he was a legendary dunker
Dominique was in the G.O.A.T. conversation right until the Hawks traded him mid-season 1994 A bizarre move because they had the best record in the Eastern Conference up until that point, Dominique was playing extremely well and Jordan was off embarking on a minor league baseball career...
Dominique used to wear a basketball shoe called "Brooks" until Reebok signed him, I believe it was about the 1990 All-Star Game Reebok signed Dominique in a bold move in that era "sneaker wars" to win the 1990 All-Star Weekend Slam Dunk Contest, which in turn he did famously quipping "Pump Up & Air Out" referring to Nike Air Basketball Shoe Ad Campaign
@@str8duvalDominique was a good defender, above average at worst But yes, Dominique Wilkins wasn't a playmaker, he wasn't a facilitator or point forward HE WAS A SCORER! Small forwards weren't the ball handlers their known for being now until Scottie Pippen started getting consistent playing time somewheres about the 1988 season... Not even Larry Bird was the full court ball handler wing players are known for being now until Pippen, you could say Milwaukee Bucks swingman Paul Pressey yet Pippen is the most successful and therefore the most famous reference
Who else in NBA History could go "toe to toe" against Michael Jordan like that on the winning end on numerous accounts, outside of Larry Bird??? I can't say, can't emphasize enough how underrated Dominique Wilkins is as an All-Time NBA Superstar... Dominique was one of the first early Superstars to make the game of basketball appealing to young inner city kids with the style, cool accessories and sneakers! That night they held the Original NBA 50 Greatest Players Ceremony, it was on an All-Star Weekend right before the All-Star Game 1996 or 97 I COULDN'T BELIEVE THEY LEFT DOMINIQUE WILKINS OFF THAT LIST!!!!! Shaq didn't deserve it yet at that time, Shaq should have made it on the 75 list just as of recent a few years ago
Great video, Jonny! I would love to see you do a video on the time Demarcus Cousin talked trash to Tim Duncan. And then proceeded to get schooled by him ru-vid.comdGjaeYz1qso?si=F_3wg7za322d-GuV
A more experienced Jordan would have utilized his teammates a bit more when he got the ball with 11 seconds left. But in his third year, Jordan was a little reckless in the last clutch. And Dominic Wilkins is probably the only player with more games against Jordan in which he scored more points in their prime. Of their 45 total season head-to-head games, Jordan out-scored Wilkins 23 to 22 in number of games having more points, and if you count until 92-93 season, before Wilkins's decline, Wilkins out-scored Jordan 22 to 20. But even we only count before Wilkins`s decline season, Jordan's scoring average was 1.4 point higher than Wilkins in their head to head match. And aside from scoring, Jordan dominated Wilkins in every other category: rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and field goal percentage etc.
It’s crazy how Dominique hit a game winner and had a great game but that part gets glossed to boost up MJ. Whether you think he’s the GOAT or not, it’s interesting how much gets glossed over to uplift Jordan.
One had 34, the other had 61. 6-1 dude. Dominique told the story himself and it was kind of a speaking in awe story about Jordan. So if anyone is "boosting MJ", it's Dominique himself. The thing is, MJ didn't need boosted. All you had to do is tell the truth. Let's be honest, you're probably a LeBron fan. Who else would take a story about Jordan dropping LeBron's career high in points and say people are boosting up Jordan. 😂
It`s crazy how you think Dominique`s game was a "great game", but if that was Jordan in Dominique`s position, it would literally be an average game for him, and not even be notable. But somehow an unremarkable game by Jordan standards gets "glossed" and it`s "crazy". 🤦♂🤦♂
I would like you to make a video. I don't know if there's any truth to it, but they said Michael Jordan befriended Chuck to throw him off his game so that they could win the NBA finals
Did Wilt Chamberlain kill a mountain lion with his bare hands after it attacked him at a rest spot? I don't see it as entirely impossible but mountain lions are hunks of muscle, built to kill.
Every bs part of the stories you tell us an associate that I know of tries every means there is to get the message to that said player to let them know the lies. It’s hilarious 😂😂😂
3:02 Jordan only scored 34 points 😂 imagine being in the 80s-90s scoring 30+ points is a lot (only MJ and Karl Malone average 30+ points in 89-98 seasons) so MJ scoring 34 points being considered “low” is crazy 😂
Dominque and Jordan remind me of LeBron and Kobe. LBJ similar to Dominique with thunderous type dunks, athleticism, shooting long J`s. and of coarse Kobe and MJ who had Similar playing styles and builds.
@johnlemon2916 Yes, he did pass to Kerr and Paxson, but here in this video, he didn't. Others passed the ball when they could have easily taken the last shot
