Exploring abandoned places is my hobby and finance it all out of my own pocket and the donations I get from the people who love watching the documentaries we make... A small donation would be greatly appreciated! ► / brosofdecay
Mister Jean-Louise…
A descendant from the Depont family that have been living in this picturesque French town since the beginning of the 16th century. The family Depont still resides in the town but Jean-Louis passed away around a decade ago, however, nobody seems to care about the belonging and memories that he left behind. Many people around town speculate that it is due to the chocking and dark display of taxidermy animals that can be seen throughout the house. Mister Jean-Louis started becoming obsessed with hunting after his wife passed away, and his children moved out, he was a very secluded person and could mostly be found inside his home or in the nearby Forrest. His house is a reflection of him and tells a much deeper story than we would have ever expected when we first walked inside.
Let’s go through what remains and let’s put the pieces of the puzzle back together.

That is a custom job of a craftsman, the banister of the stairs, the decor, those fireplaces! Homes were crafted with great loving care and built to last for generations as a legacy to pass down back then. Those children were well provided for, obviously, with those bedrooms filled with lovely personal touches.

Amazing pieces of furniture in that house, some really nice Art Deco armoires and credenzas …but it was weird to see those crucifixes placed upside down inside the rooms..

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed the upside-down crucifixes... almost like he had given up his faith after the death of his wife (I actually just assumed they fell over the years?). Sad... and SCARY!😮

I noticed that one and then one upright to the left. Then I looked closer and Jesus was upright but hanging from just barely below where the cross was but having the bottom part above him was strange. There were many more dark things and not the stuffed animals. I think other things like that kept what seemed to be 5 children away 😕.

I'm fascinated by the wallpaper in this house. On first impression, the designs look 1930's but I've not seen so many as striking as these geometric/floral prints. The one in the hallway and the up the staircase was very bold, almost as if it was designed in Minecraft, haha. Maybe, they are specifically French and somewhat niche; definitely Art Deco!

Fascinating tour of this home! The stuffed animals displayed in such weird ways seem rather dark to me. I once went into a friend’s mother’s house as of to my horror there was a table sitting on top of an elephant foot!! I don’t understand that mentality. Thank you for posting this!

Right! I can understand taxidermy animals that passed of natural/incurable causes, but displaying murdered animals baffles me quite a bit.

Hi Leslie & crew. Recently discovered your channel. Now I can't stop binge watching. As someone who reads quite a lot of nonfiction on time periods you are entering I wanted to mention that it was quite normal for the children to be raised by a governess or nanny. This may explain the small, barren rooms you find throughout these homes. And it was also common that after dinner the men and women would separate. The men for smoking and drinking, men subject conversation. The women for tea, afterwards they would meet up for entertainment, music, piano or solo singing.

What a beautiful town to see. The bell was so nice to hear. This house's countryside setting on top of a hill was charming. The interior was almost timeless looking like the owners would return anytime. So many personal touches coming through from the owner, his hobbies, personal taste in beautiful furniture and paintings. The piano:) Those squirrels were very unusual, though I am a fan of our animal friends I realize that this all happened long ago in different times. I am always amazed at the grand attics in these mansions, they look like the inside of a bygone wooden ship. I really liked the hobby horses and period era hats, what a nice touch, again thank you for sharing with us.

He was a widower and probably went to sleep in a former room of one of his children. It's hard to sleep in the bed and bedroom that you spent your wedded life with your beloved. I know that as a widow myself. I understand completely. I love the light switch. It's a lovely house.

Heyy dear Lesley, how are you doing my friend?! - Wow, that's again an absolutely fascinating mansion you found in France. I am completely amazed by the craftmanship of the furniture with the intricate carvings. Although the main living room is holding beautiful furniture, I also find the display of the taxidermy animals very disturbing to see, - but that is something, you find from time to time in houses of rich people and in castles. When you were showing the menu card I found behind you on the marble top of the cabinet a beautiful vase manufactured in cameo glass, - from the art nouveau period. And - the huge mirror has a typical art deco shaped frame. Absolutely beautiful!! - Wow, - and the clock with the lady and the peacock on the chimney mantlepiece together with the two matching side urns is after my opinion a legit masterpiece of the art deco period. As far as I could see the lady statue is made probably of bronze and ivory in combination, called "chryselephantine". The most famous artist of the early 20-th century, who made overwhelminmgly beautiful masterpieces of statues in this techniqe, was Demetre Chiparus, who was born in Romania and mainly worked in Paris. - I presume, that set is alone a fortune worth! So amazing to see! Also this lamp on the ceiling of the hallway is pure art deco. - Every room was a surprise of its own!! So many smaller antiques standing on the mantlepieces and in beautifully carved display cabinets,... and so on. - In one bedroom there was a corner shelf with very different items, and I saw two typical tin wind up toy figures from the german toy company "Schuco", presumably from the prewar period. - But on the other hand there was one rather disturbing detail visible: a turned down crucifix over a bed! - Actually a very sinister sight! - And -then again I also loved that beautifully furnished living room with th red art deco armchairs and an absolutely amazing amount of different antiques everywhere visible in this room. - The beautiful velvet curtains add ideally to the rich and elegant atmosphere of this room. Walking in mind together with you through all these rooms really made my heart jump! I was nearly speechless to see so many well preserved antiques from different art historical periods. Absolutely overwhelming! - This is after my opinion one of your best and most spectacular explores you were doing in France, - a true time capsule in partially museal quality, which should by all means be preserved. Thank you so much for taking us on tour through such an exceptionally beautiful mansion. - Wishing you still a lot more fun together with Maureno in the USA. Stay safe and many hugs, my dear friend and bro! - God bless you all! - Peace and kindest regards!

Being of age and how to manage the sequence of returns in those early periods is what seems quite scary in the current market. The market is never a loser in the twenty year cycle, but the 2000s decade scenario scares me and could really disrupt my retirement. When you're no longer accumulating but withdrawing, it's hard to be anything but cautious.

Did people smoke in their bedrooms ? You bet !. People of my age remember all the comments/ jokes (poor jokes) of the dangers of smoking in bed. Now then, I wouldn't want to be surrounded with the thought that I took the lives of those animals. However, he paid no small sum for each one to be preserved and mounted, which was in vogue then. The supply of fox seemed endless; farmers thanked you for thinning them out. It is important to at least attempt to read why they did things. It is not my way...we were made to capture and mount butterflies years ago for a credit in school. It is not something I liked doing. The Mourning Cloak butterfly I killed was the last one that I saw ...50 years ago. Tears. The preservation here is fabulous, Lesley and crew.

It is so odd for people to abandon these beautiful homes, castles perhaps. But why leave such valuable belongings. I just don’t get it. I know it’s probably not a I am hooked on your channel as my sisters here in Florida and I use to explore abandoned houses as well. It was fascinating to us. We also liked to find their garbage dumps as we found many old glass items, especially bottles made from molds and joined together. Probably a “trade secret,” but where do you learn about these places? And I love your accent. As an English major, though I would suggest that you use the word “Wow” a little less. You did a wonderful job displaying this rather disturbing home. The taxidermy was sad to see. I wish this owner's family would remove the poor, dead animals, and properly bury them. They deserve that respect. Also, equally disturbing was the crucifixes that were turned upside down in two of the bedrooms. That is quite evil that someone did that intentionally it would seem because it happened in two rooms. It's not your fault. It was just my observation. She didn’t have an ashtray in there so would set her lit cigarette on the edge of the dresser while she dressed… forgetting it on occasion…at times it would burn down, burning the wood & leaving marks😳 Thank heaven it never started on fire😢🧐😖 The taxidermy was a culture thing…but the cruel foxes that were trapped, were disturbing!!! The wall paper was sooo well put up that I was amazed that it was still hanging beautifully!!! Evidently, whoever last exited from there also crawled out the window. The stuffed animals were strange, but everything else was awesome. Sad to see a place like this begin to fall apart. This one is still in great shape compared to some you have covered, but I did notice water damage, stains on the ceiling and around a couple windows. It's sad. I love watching the videos you made. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the new ones. Did you notice that the cross above the bed was upside down in one of the rooms? I was blown away, especially when I saw it together with the music box.

I always watch your videos, I love how you capture every detail. Show the date in which year it was made. Everything about this house I liked was the stuffed animal stern. I feel sorry for the animals. Thanks a lot.Sorry for my English, if there is a mistake in the text, I use a translator to thank you

Beautiful time capsule! The animal isn't a washingbear it is a badger. And the photo under the radio wasn't it a picture from Charles de Gaulle? But I'm not really sure

I know the upside down crucifix was awful, but I also saw 2 burned tea candles. I wonder if someone did a seance or something creepy like that, and they turned them upside down. Also who puts those massive locks on the inside doors? Creepy

Yes… that caught my attention immediately! I was wondering if anybody else would comment on it! Very creepy indeed… the child with the goat….. then crucifixes upside down… CREEPY!!

The inverted cross is a symbol of humility in faith. During the rein of Nero, the Apostle Peter would not be crucified in the same manor as Jesus Christ. If you look back in the video of when Lesley was in the purples/blue bedroom, you can see a small picture of Christ with a child.
@ckswat77zz51
@ckswat77zz51 2 года назад
@@lissanne9769 I know that is true about Peter, but the cross above the bed had Jesus on it. This is not respect

This is beautiful. Love the red room. The children most likely had to take Piano lessons. Obviously the man had a hobby of taxidermy. The home is not trashed! The nail or whatever that held the cross correctly probably fell out. Glad there didn’t hoard. Very neat in the cupboards. Horse pull toys.

Fantastic place minus the dead animals. If that were my father's house I would clean out the dead animals, clean and redecorate. Also open all the windows and do a cleansing with Palo Santo and live there. That man had bad energy I think.

It's a badger. Yes the owner was a bit cruel. Beautiful home. But horrible owner. What a shame. Yes they smoked in the bedrooms. Everywhere in the homes. Everything left as it was He only cared for hunting dogs. He had a cruel soul. Great video of an amazing home. But the family doesn't seem to want anything to do with it either . Wonder why the room was locked away so strongly? Shame. Amazing find. Very unusual. Thank you, Leslie. Incredible
