Particularly early on when things are getting started. You're looking for a relationship, but you end up forming one with the dog. It's obviously not the same type of relationship that you would form with a person, but it is intimate in its own way, and it's personal. So you already have a relationship with your dog filled with love and rules and boundaries and expectations and territory and now you're trying to add a whole new human being to the concoction. It's ridiculous that an angel like a dog would come between a relationship. Because if my dog barks and growls at that person, that person is probably not a good person in the first place. @@ZeroMalone Well no obviously a dog shouldn't decide the well-being of a relationship. But I think the original point was that it is a factor to be considered and can provide an additional obstacle. I think the word Peter used was barrier. An example of a different type of obstacle would be, what if I have a disorder that makes me sweat profusely and it's out of my control? I'm constantly bringing extra shirts on our dates because I don't want to sweat through the one I'm wearing, I'm always wiping sweat off of my forehead and I'm nervous about holding your hand because I don't want my hand to be too moist. Would I still be a great guy? Yes I would be. Still funny still entertaining still kind and thoughtful, But my profuse sweating does add an extra element to deal with by me and to be dealt with by you. Some people might be turned off by how much I sweat even though it's out of my control. Does that mean that anyone who decided to stop dating me wasn't truly the one because they couldn't see past my sweating? No. That's idealistic. It is very possible that someone who I ultimately could have vibed with very well May decide that they don't want to deal with the extra element that I bring to the equation. That doesn't make them wrong or judgmental for choosing enough to deal with my sweating and that doesn't make me unlovable. It just means the factors in the situation tallyed themselves out and we didn't work out. A One person having a dog is an added factor to a relationship That could provide obstacles. Are the insurmountable obstacles? No. But they exist. Would I go as far as to tell someone not to get a dog if they're single? No that's extreme. But I think it's a fair warning to someone who might not be aware starting a new relationship with someone who has a dog is different than starting a relationship with someone who doesn't and it's noticeable.
