He Who Moans Review of Doctor Who: Knock Knock 

The Doctor Falls is obviously going to be about the Doctor going skydiving.

Throughout the episode I was sure that the Landlord was a timelord and the house was a TARDIS that had been cut off from the Eye of Harmony and without power crashed on Earth. It took the form of the house and the Landlord started to feed lifeforms to it in the hopes of storing enough energy to make a jump to the Cardiff Rift were it could be refueled properly.

"Lukewarm" is an awfully well-chosen word to describe this episode.

Ghost Light is the most underrated DW story ever

I knew even as I was watching the episode that it was never gonna happen, but with the way it opened and the fact that everyone was making such a big deal out of the landlord's actor, I had this fantastical idea that maybe the landlord was a Time Lord, and that since Gallifrey was officially back maybe the show would do something ballsy and just have a Tome Lord be an antagonist of a one off episode.

I was expecting it to do a Buffy-esque twist and have it all be totally innocuous, and the Landlord is just a harmless old guy

But Stuart The God Complex didn't answer the question about what was behind 11s door and it was great But Moffat got berated by idiot fans not understanding it was meant to ambiguous for years and years he had to answer it just to make them happy

You know it's a dull episode when the best moment was seeing Heroes in the '77 box. I also agree that Ghost Light is brilliant.

This episode was very similar to Smile, now hear me out we start with a group of people who go to an new undiscovered place then after beginning to live there creatures who live in the walls come out and kill them (and no one we care about dies) That literally describes both episodes

I'm surpirsed you didn't mention the reveal at the end where none of the characters actually died.

One thing I would like Chris Chibnall to do as show runner is to stop having story's were the companions return's home after 2 or 3 trips in the TARDIS.

Also the all should have been taken into the wood as that's much creepier than getting The 90s Mummy eaten by bugs also the CGI was C R A P

The Cloisters of Terror with 4 and Leela by Jonathan Morris was the big Finish audio I got that week and it was brilliant

if I did Knock Knock I would have remade it like Paradise Towers and included the Landlord as an avatar of the Beast with the tower burning down based around the Grenfel Tower tragedy but it would not get made as the public would be too upset with the story based around the true event. I would make the Landlord a future incarnation of the Monk and made him reappear in Extremis as an member of the pope's group of cardinals and tries to kill him.

I REALLY liked this episode. Not perfect by any means but it I genuinely felt freaked out at certain points ( the guy trapped in the wall, swarming of the lice things etc.) and Suchet was fantastic.

Great review as per usual haha. I think the episode could have been improved by having Bill and the Landlord talk as well for the whole parent theme considering Bill's mother is referenced in the episode. I also think they should have kept the students killed off but that's something pretty much everyone has said in the fan base.

When you were describing leaving horror monster stuff unanswered I just keep thinking back to the tennant era episode where he was on a train stuck with a bunch of passengers and the whole episode is just them acting and the lights going weird and it’s never explained what the mysterious force was, they just leave the planet. That episode was brilliant.

My theory on why the final episode is called The Doctor Falls is that Moffat causes the show's quality to drop even lower. And I bet ya that the episode will have a happy crappy sappy Disney bullshit ending were everybody dabs.

So your suggestion is to make the landlord character into Gus from Mummy on the Orient Express

Next week's a really good one, the best one all series.

The next two are brilliant IMO, then we get the other two Monk ones and it'll be interesting to hear your thoughts on them. Empress of Mars and Eaters of Light are both quite Classic Who so I think you'll like them. Hope the finale's good.

Stu is going to be pleased with the finale, Cybermen and a rehash of spare parts, and it was actually pretty good

My opinion with these sorts of episodes that have a "pile" of characters introduced is that since there isn't enough time in a 45 minute window, just trim the fat. Instead, just make the episode about Bill and Bill alone needing a place to stay. You get a lot more room for characterization there between Bill and the Doctor. Maybe throw in 1 flatmate to bounce off of the Doctor that can be brought up in a later episode.

I think the only thing that was close to "ambiguous" was the "Alien Wood Lice." Which actually sums up this episode quite depressingly actually, besides "Spoopy Haunted House w/ 'E-mo-tion'!... BOO!!"

Wow. That was much more positive than I could've been. Two visual ideas, seemingly not even a first draft of a script, disposable characters without character that weren't even disposed of properly in the end. And just dull. And how did wood lady not know that one day her son had become her father. That added nothing to the story (or a would have added nothing had there been a story) while adding to the inability to believe anything going on.

Thank goodness just 3 more episodes and this Moffat nightmare will be over.

I quite liked this episode, but it completely glossed over the fact that it essentially eneded with a mother murder-suiciding herself and her child. Which is a teeny bit fucked up

My favorite moment in Knock Knock was when they found a stairway to a underground room behind a wall and all of missing house items were found in there, and then they run into something that was secretly living in that room. Whoops, I've been describing an episode from another show, sorry.

I hear what you're saying with ambiguity and new who's necessity to explain everything to the viewer which isn't ideal. But the alternative often takes the other extreme like with Russell's last story End of Time part 2, where seemingly no one knows who that lady in white was meant to be. Granted, that was one of many factors which made that such an underwhelming episode

Don't even JOKE about Clara coming back. She has had seven exits. Seven! That's the same number as Jason Vorhees.

I really just want the regeneration to just sort of come out of the blue.

The only character I felt sorry for was Harry. And that was mostly because he was mostly with the Doctor!

I thought it went from pretty good to alright to nonsensical. I couldn't believe the students, not because of the lack of sex/drugs talk but because they were so thick. They signed a contract for a house without checking that it had radiators, fridges, plug sockets or any other basic things you look for in a house.

I'd actually disagree that all questions are always answered in Who. One of the things that annoyed me in season 9 was how slapdash it all was and low on explanation. For example Sleep No More... I mean, what? Why? How? Connection between the Morpheus-boxes and the monsters? Never answered. Pretty annoying. This isn't to say that you don't have a point there with the inexplicable having a higher creepiness factor, but I think it's a bit more complex question of knowing when to give answers and when not.

I loved this episode, my only major criticism was that everybody lived for a bit of a silly reason.

Hated this episode, but the special effects are... good. I guess.

They should've rewritten the episode with actual student dialogue.

I know you wouldn't like this episode. sad thing is we are near the end of season 10 and to me this is the best episode of season 10. But look on the bright side Stubagful Jamie Mattson is back for oxygen. bad thing is Nardole is in the whole episode

I disagree. The style of the episode just worked for me! The ending was a bit dodgy but this is one of my favourites so far.

Knock Knock has been my favourite episode of this series. I don't get why people didn't like it.

It was an okay episode. I had high expectation for this one, but they weren't met. I would say it's the worst episode of S10, but it's not unwatchable. 👌
