Flemlo, this is one of your best pieces. I remember all of this, from his College Career to the Pros. I always wondered what the underlying issues were. You provided excellent insight into what really happened. Thanks again, you kill it. ESPN should give you a show because you're an Educator more than anything else.
As someone who’s pretty experienced with steroids, I’ve never seen them turn a dude who is calm into a psycho. If you’re already a psycho steroids will just make it worse, but they won’t change your personality. I think concussions are more to blame here.
@@versewonderstrikes5353 if you’re a person that already goes into “rages” they might make it worse. But for the most part not really. There’s certain steroids that increase aggression but they’re not really taken long term like halotest, cheque drops. Trenbolone has tons of weird side effects like increased jealousy and rage, people have said it turned them gay ect. So if you’re weary of those side effects you just take something else. Some steroids were even designed for and tested on old women and children and deemed completely safe like anavar,
@@versewonderstrikes5353 it is a thing. they can make people more aggresive when they take them. obviously depends on the specific steroid you are taking, how much and how long you take it. cant just blame concussions when he was a active user.
I'm fairly new to you channel, in fact, this is my second or third video - I have to say, I wouldn't consider myself a sports fan, but I can't get enough of these stories and your narration, it all really great! I just wanted to say that.
this man tells the best stories, saw his channel first a few weeks ago and he’s def one of my favorite youtubers now, he does an amazing job!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼
David played on an amazingly good Highschool football team at Humble highschool. I know at least 3 guys went to the NFL, maybe more. Including David Givens who won Superbowl rings with the patriots.
This is quality content!! You have to be more than a casual Sunday fan of football to remember David Boston. And this video does a great job of explaining it all!! Subbed.
@@welbyncastro9169 "Joe Walcott" is not the same person as "Jersey Joe Walcott". Joe Walcott was born in Barbados in 1873, and was the welterweight champion from 1901 to 1906. Jersey Joe Walcott, whose given name was Arnold Cream, was born in 1914 and was the heavyweight champion from 1951 to 1952. Jersey Joe took his ring name from the original Joe Walcott, whom he greatly admired.
Survivors guilt combined with an entire year of training without football hits. Now he's addicted to improving his body. I've watched friends go through this and work themselves right off their teams.
A few years ago I gained like 30 pounds of muscle, like I was seriously jacked. But damn, I was out of breath just climbing stairs. I'm 5'4 and now that I've lost a lot of my muscle, I'm weighing in at like 140. Theres definitely a such thing as too much, my frame couldn't handle it. My knees started to go back, my shoulders and elbows started to go bad. I had to stop. I remember everyone thought I was doing steroids. I did preworkout, creatine, and protein.
Im new to this channel but as a Die Hard OSU & unfortunately Bengals fan, off of your Wallpaper alone I am subbing & I haven't even watched the whole video yet💪🏾💯
David Boston was a train wreck! I live in the Phoenix area and was a bouncer at a popular nightclub in Scottsdale when David played for the Cardinals. He was in the club every weekend with his homie Corey Chavous who was a DB for the Cardinals and later the Minnesota Vikings. They used to walk around drinking Dom P from the bottle and eating Ecstasy every weekend. Many Saturday nights before playing a game the following day they would be in the club completely wrecked and drugged out of their minds. He was a complete mess. Boston was using HGH before the NFL had tests that could detect it. He cared about partying and chasing women more than he cared about his career. That’s why he fizzled out so quickly. He should have been one of the all time greats. He had the skill set to be great, he just lacked the work ethic and discipline.
Ah man I'm a Az native, had recently graduated high school when the Cardinals drafted David Boston. His second season he was already my favorite receiver. I noticed he looked like a linebacker & by the 3rd season looked like a body builder. I was super bummed when I realized he was no longer a cardinal & didnt hear anything about why i was confused. I quickly got over it when I saw his stats and the cardinals drafted larry Fitzgerald & anquan Bolden. Whoever was drafting wideouts for the cardinals from 99 to 2009 deserves some sort of award.
There was another Joe Walcott, as well. But Jersey was a perennial contender and got quite a few opportunities to challenge for a world title. Definitely feel in today's boxing game he'd be right at the top in whatever weight class, winning a title or two. Thanks for this. If you could, do a vid on Salvatore Sanchez, Willie Pep or the other Joe Walcott, Barbados...
I remember when he was at Ohio State, they had this play called "Boston", it was, and still is, the most unstoppable play in the playbook, and he literally killed Michigan with it. Ohio State still has that play in the playbook, and every Big Ten team knows that play and are always on the watch for it.
@TruthTV8556That's not true, don't you know the rival schools know all the pet plays? Heck they probably practice defending that play during the summer.
The pictures you’ve got are of “Jersey” Joe Walcott, who was 6 even and fought at heavy. The story you’re telling is of “Barbados Demon” Joe Walcott.👌🏼
aobgreatness1 Thank you, I was wondering what the hell he was talking about when he was showing Jersey joe walcotts picture. This guy needs to edit his video so they are historically correct or he’s going to miss lead people.
Jake was a beast in Denver. So the simulation was correct. I had the chance to talk to Jake outside Sun Devil Stadium after a lose with my aunt who had season tickets. Very inspiring. She asked if the loses got him down and he said “I love the game” or something like that. Tbh, I forgot exactly what he said. Was a long time ago. I just knew guy was for real and then he came and tore it up for my team and almost got to the bowl. Was a pleasure to watch him play in Phoenix and Denver.
Dude was open about the use of HGH before it was banned. I remember reading that sports illustrated article that was him being interviewed about the chargers not wanting him to be at 235 as a slot receiver and it was a struggle for him to get a contract anywhere after the Arizona and San Diego ordeals
Ur content is so complete and informative! Huge fan! One of the best sport shows on social media! Ur bound for bigger and better things! Only thing wrong is the fact ur a Bengals fan lol. Go Browns!!!!
Juan Medrano I was thinking maybe there was another Joe WOLCOTT & that’s why he didn’t call him “Jersey” Joe at anytime thanks for not making me look this up to confirm
damn I totally remember this cat cuz the Cards were one of my Fav madden squads back in teh day, and every time i would look at his stats his weight would go up every year and he was already big for a WR haha Great vid bru
That's Jersey Joe Walcott a.k.a. Arnold Raymond Cream 1/31/1914-2/25/1994. 71 fights; 51 wins; 32 ko's; 18 losses; 2 draws. Joe Walcott 3/13/1873-10/1/1935 a.k.a. Barbados Joe Walcott 5feet tall 1inch. 65 inch reach. 166 fights; 104 wins; 61 ko's; 32 losses; 27 draws; 3 no contests. On February 23, 1900 barbados Joe Walcott fought light-heavyweight Joe Choynski winning a seventh round TKO, though Choynski outweighed him by 16lbs. and conceding his opponent a full foot advantage in height.
Injuring your brain (concussion) from a horrific accident can cause all sorts of mental issues. NFL has really worked hard on this and we have the brain scanning technology now to see these injuries.
Great recap! Just came across your vault of videos and am loving them. My rookie year as a receiver with the Chargers was the same year David was brought in...so many interesting moments with him...especially after I bought one of his cars from him midway through the season! It's been really interesting watching your videos of guys I've played with because, at the time, I had no idea about their pasts or what they may be have been going through. As an undrafted free agent I was solely. focused on fighting my way up that slippery NFL ladder. Anyway, just wanted to drop a note of thanks and appreciation. Your ability to tell these stories in a way that is both engaging, detail oriented, and unbiased is refreshing. Keep doing your thing! All the best.
Bro can you give us some stories about David? Was he absolutely humongous? Did he ever eat in front of you guys or always in his room with his trainer? The nipple piercings got me man 🤣
I swear RU-vid is hacking our brains. I just had a "what a happened to David Boston" convo with a friend at work. Two days later I'm recommended this video.
Bro this is crazy I remember meeting him at chargers training camp when I was a kid and I couldn’t believe how big this dude was. He looked like a Greek god as a receiver lol
The pictures are of heavyweight champ Jersey Joe Walcott, but he's talking about Barbados Joe Walcott. They're 2 different people separated by about 30 years.
Exactly he really threw me with the height and weight you could clearly see he was much taller and heavier. Before you make a video you really need to do your homework. Very bad business.
Exactly, the drugs weren't the problem its the way he was working out. He was training like a bodybuilder instead of an athlete. Him taking drugs was smart.
I went to HS with David. He’s always been into the weight room...Bc he liked the attention it brought from the women here in Houston. He actually liked workin out more than football itself. As we get older, we do get heavier. With or without roids. But for him to gain weight...isn’t really a shocker knowing how much time we spend in the gym. Shit, he owns a gym in Humble TODAY. It’s just what we grew up loving to do.
He could’ve have been suffering from PTSD from the wreck. The sudden realization that life is fragile made him overcompensate for his fears by trying to be unbreakable physically. Tragic really.
Great doc. I was there for it all. I remember my brother and I would edit his arms in Madden to make them match his actual body size. I also remember that year he gained the extra 30lbs. He was insanely huge. I remember saying to myself, he's gotta be juicing.
You can tell by the way his abs looked. That's another indicator of hgh use. Look at people like jon Jones or chael sonnen. They have the same abs as a result from hgh. Looking at the abs is the easiest way to tell if someone has used it to get in a better shape
@@emilegriffith1473 no way. Chael and jon used every ped possible. They have even admitted to doing so. Jon has the exact same lower abs as someone that does peds. Just because they did use them doesn't mean they still do. You can't say chael sonnen or jon Jones never used peds.
@@301.allday He's actually in the K-State Staff, working with new player and quarterbacks. Coach Klineman has him on staff. It's a good thing. Theres some vids on youtube of the Klineman hire and Colin Klien is interviewed. I think he'll end up coaching but this year he was a K-State assistant/staff dude I think. (Coulda used him against Navy, lol)
Klein never had that prototypical arm angle or throwing motion. Fast forward 8 yrs and he may have had a chance considering how Lamar is being used. Klein will be a head coach somewhere in 5yrs.
Hey bro, btw, that’s Jersey Joe Walcott heavyweight champ in the 50’s, the guy you talking about is Barbados Joe Walcott, lightweight and welterweight. Easily confused though, Jersey Joe copied the name from Barbados Joe
Great story I just saw David a couple months ago in humble he’s doing well he’s not jacked like he use to be which is is a good sign hope he keeps doing well.
Damn bro you read my mind. I was just thinking “what happened to David Boston” last week. I used to have to change his character model on Madden. They always made him too small lol.
@M W at least 50% of the NFL, and elite athletes in most professional sports, are on performance enhancing drugs. DK shows many of the common juicing signs and pretty much anyone with moderate understanding of body building will tell you he's using PEDs.
M W what? Just know you’d have to be delusional or ignorant to think someone can achieve that naturally without extreme bulking and cutting cycles over many years. It’s pretty much common knowledge that most elite athletes are taking PEDs.
@@IYPITWL Yep, it got to a point where the testers started testing for the masking agents first. The people who cheat, will always be at least one step ahead of the folks trying to catch them.
As a fight fan, I've gotta ask you to specify which Joe Walcott. I'm sure you're talking about Barbados but Jersey Joe is one of the greatest boxers in the history of the sport.
I remember seeing David Boston at the Texans training camp when the Dolphins were in for a joint practice. Dude looked so big, he should have just been a tight end at that point.
Well he would’ve almost instantly become an acne infested insomniac with mood swings followed soon after by obliterated testicles, and weakened bones with man boobs. I’d be weary of that.
