The FIFA20 fanboys judging a player they wern't even alive to see. It's absurd to try and place him in the modern era but at the same time deny him modern training methods, diets, the perfect pitches and the lighter footballs of today. Some things don't change across time and that is natural instinct, awareness and finishing ability. It doesn't matter what era, certain things elevate the greats above others. He would still score loads.

Paul Davis, My friends (who followed other teams) used to tell me that Jimmy was a goal hanger. My answer was maybe so, the trick was when the chance came, to put the ball in the net, and when it came to Greaves 99.9 per cent of the time that's what happened
@myroseaccount

He used to come in for fearful punishment back in the day. Today he would get more protection and playing on billiard table pitches his blistering acceleration and easy ability to drift past players and excellent off both feet with natural instincts all in a top 6 side would have been irresistible.

We must remember in Jimmy Greave's era much fewer penalties were awarded. Of his 44 goals for England not one was a penalty in 57 games. In view of this and the protection given to strikers today, including better pitches, Jimmy would have scored more like 70 per season.
@dcanmore
@dcanmore 2 года назад
Jimmy's international career was finished by the time he was 28. His last England goal in competition was at 25 in British Home Championships (1965). Last eight internationals he scored one goal (a friendly 1967); He was totally inconsistent: 26 games and no goals; 22 goals BHC; 18 goals in friendlies; only 4 goals for England in World Cup and Euro qualifiers and finals so when it came to the world stage ('62WC, '64EU, '66WC) he was a luxury that England couldn't afford to keep any longer.
@alansouthall8221
@alansouthall8221 2 года назад
He couldn't manage close to that in a 46 game season and was rarely the top scorer in the league. Pure fantasy to think he'd even top the scoring charts regularly
@alecsuchi3293
@alecsuchi3293 2 года назад
@@alansouthall8221 At that time the number of games played in the top flight was 42 and not 46. Jimmy Greaves was actually the league's top scorer in 5 seasons. Furthermore he has scored the most top flight goals in the history of Engĺish league football. So your conclusions are at the best questionable if not misinformed. It is without doubt that Messi and Ronaldo would not have coped in the harsh conditions of the fifties and sixties. The heavy leather balls, heavy pitches and little protection given to attackers would have limited their success which would have fallen far short of what Jimmy had achieved.

Jimmy was the greatest and a much more natural striker than Harry Kane, good though he is. Chopper Harris played against a Guy that I know when he was just 16 and went thru' the back of him, while the ball was down the other end of the pitch. 10 minutes later when the ball was elsewhere, my customer, now in his 70s, almost knocked him out with a punch.
