Head Gasket & Timing Chain Suzuki Swift Sport 07 M16A

A short video of me doing the head gasket and timing chain on a Suzuki Swift Sport 2007 including the parts used and key points to note when taking on the job.
This was done alone in my back garden with basic hand tools and a couple of custom tools to get the job done properly.
Doing this work myself cost only £130 compared to garage prices being over £1000+ and being my car I did it with care and by the book!
I found little to nothing online about working on this engine so hopefully this can be some use to anybody who needs it.
Thanks for watching, please subscribe, comment, share and like for more content like this!
ps. I noticed after editing, cylinder 2 had failed not 3

Great job!! I have problem with my suzuki sx4 m16a engine. I guess the head gasket blown since bubles constantly show up at the radiator and overflow coolant in the resevoir/expansion tank. Also, the temperature gauge rise if i drive fast. Do i need to skim the block/ head before replace with the new gasket? Pls help. Tq vry much in advance.
@joshb1434
@joshb1434 3 года назад
I didnt skim the block or the head when i replaced my head gasket. I did check it with a straight edge ruler and it appeared fine. I had those same symptoms so i would say for definite your headgasket needs replacing. I have the suzuki workshop manual pdf for the swift with the m16a engine if you need it. The engine block should be the same but there will be some differences such as the aluminium intake on the sport. Since the timing chain needs to come off it would be smart to swap that whilst your in there. Its not a difficult job, just lots of little bits but if you keep it clean and organized youll be fine. Film it and you can watch it back if your unsure of something youve done.

I'm struggling with removing the two top bolts that hold the AC compressor onto it's mounting plate, since the AC lines are directly in the way making removal appear impossible, yet you managed to do it. I noticed i had a bit of an oil leak where your describing. Turned out a few of my manifold bolts were loose and it was coming from there. Suzuki's are bullet proof aslong as you check and change the fluids at the proper intervals. I have a couple and i dont have any unexpected issues

@@joshb1434 cheer mate i will check again closely. But unfornutley its a difference experience for me and my sister, not one of my suzuki as even come close to being as reliable as my first car i had which is a fiat punto 1.2 16v with high mileage aswell. To be fair the suzuki has started up and i have had my current suzuki nearly 4 years. But im getting issue's. Clutch folks on gearbox snapped and left me stranded, the thermostat needed replacing due to overheating but coolant sysem never been the same since i changed it 2 years ago. Rear brake drums cracked. Slight Tapping noise now coming from engine. Its getting more and more harder to engage 1st gear and sometimes 2nd. This is my 4th suzuki and i would rathet mention my last 3 or as they get me mad thinking them 😂.

@@leethatsme1988 what engines have you had in the swifts?

@@joshb1434 first swift was an 04 i think and was a 1.3vvt petrol. And 2nd one was a 05 1.5 petrol. My current is a liana estate 1.6 non vvt petrol, i am going to part ex on tuesday for an honda civic. Will miss the car but not the problems 😂. My sister has suzuki splash 1.2 and with only 51k miles needs a new gearbox and rear wiper motor so she trading hers after christmas.
