Very interesting addition to the review, using that barrel scope. Personally, a cleaning of the barrel is step one for me with any new air gun purchase.

One of the accuracy advantages of air rifles comes from having an adjustable hammer spring. Harmonics are king.

WOW! Was shocked how banged up the crown was on that Avenger! Holy smokes. Not only is there a ding or 2 on the end of the barrel, but that translates into a swell on the inside diameter for the barrel as well. Thanks for scoping it Rick!

Whew. That rifling in the Gauntlet was exaclty pretty either lol. Looked like galling. Maybe not enough lube when rifling them or feeding the button too fast, but I'm not an engineer either! Looking forward to seeing you scope them again after some shooting use.

That knick in the crown is going to effect accuracy for sure. I feel you need to either send it back or get it worked on. The good news is that it shows that you are getting off the shelf items and not specialty prepared items.

Rick awesome idea! Thanks for using the bore scope at the very beginning! It looks like the Avenger may have been cleaned by your friends at PA/Air Venturi? or they use a different type of shipping protection solution? After seeing this, I wish you would thoroughly clean both barrels before shooting to test my hypothesis! Then do a second recording of the barrels! I've never seen on Avenger bore (only 2) that clean out of the box! Ask others Avenger owners who clean barrels first. I think they will agree with me!

The Gauntlet bbl was certainly rusted and appeared rusty. I would clean both to get factory grease/ coating out b4 shooting. That is something I have always done. Usually takes a few magazines to season the bore after cleaning
@heithwatkins
@heithwatkins 2 года назад
Bring it own brother. I wish you could do a 177cal comparison too. But Umarex is not offering one so far. I would buy the Gauntlet for bench shooting. And buy the Avenger for carrying in the woods.

Yeah dang it rick now you got me wanting to go buy a boar camera and check the riflings and everything in my hatsan bt65 25 Cal because I put in no joke at least 25,000 rounds to that air rifle and it's just as deadly accurate as day one actually might even be more accurate oh I shoot through its NSA slugs well different slugs too but mainly NSA

@@joshuagibson2520 Depends on what you want to do. The new 177 slugs and slug like pellets, change the game. AEAC has a Daystate RedWolf HP shooting 40 ft pounds and sub MOA at 100 yards. Pellets and slugs are cheap in 177cal
@joshuagibson2520
@joshuagibson2520 2 года назад
@@heithwatkins for sure. Ive seen several brands of 177 slugs do good in various rifles during reviews. I love how much cheaper .177 ammo is. I don't currently own anything over 22 cal. because of the added ammo expense. Maybe one day, but for now I'm sticking with 22.
@zeeshaneastchem7387

i think if you are in hunting bussiness then .22 is good and most available is also. 22 but the the romance of fast and straight trajectory is with 177.

The heavy grease used for protection in shipping from the factory is subjected to all sorts of manufacturing contaminants, including dirt, abrasive grit, metal microfilings, you name it. Joe's bread crumbs from his lunch may be embedded in that shipping "lube" CLEAN YOUR BARREL BEFORE YOU SHOOT! The only time this isn't an issue is if you're shooting a a new 12 gauge Remington shotgun, and I clean those too
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb Год назад
Michael - that may have been the way in the old days.. but it's just not the case anymore. Nearly every gun I get in will shoot right out of the box. In fact, I do that on purpose just to see how manufacturers deliver products to end users. Airguns are not firearms.. there's no powder residue to clean. Barrels can lead up over time, but it can take a long time for any issues with accuracy to show up. It happens more with the high-velocity airguns than it does with the mid-range options. Back in the day when I started all this, it made sense to use bore paste and fully season the barrel before your first shot. You may still need to do that with some guns, mostly the really low-end, or from holding companies that leverage brand names they've acquired through buyouts just to dump cheap products at higher prices based on the name on the side of the box. We may have 200 different airguns come through our channels between AGW, GTA, and Modern Airgunner. Maybe 2% to 3% need to be cleaned before they are shot. It does happen, but it's the exception rather than the rule. Cheers AGW
@Michael-sf9yg
@Michael-sf9yg Год назад
Still, it costs practically nothing to clean it before you use it. Why risk a big investment over a few cleaning patches and a little Ballistol?
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb Год назад
@@Michael-sf9yg - you certainly can if you like. But I don’t because I want to know what it does out of the box. The way 99% of buyers are going to use it. It’s not the cost. Cheers AGW

The Gauntlet 2 may be a good bench shooter but if I'm going to bench shoot ,, i would get an FX or Daystate ect. If i want to go hunting, AVENGER!!! all day long. Lighter and shorter. Try carrying the Gauntlet 2 around for the day lol . Avenger can be tuned to shoot many different pellets or slugs. And when i say Avenger I'm talking a bout the synthetic stock not a big fan of the wood stock , I'm a hunter.

Where'd the Avenger baffles come from? I have 3 of them (.177, .22, and .25) and have baffles. I've used a 3D printed air stripper from eBay and a DonnyFL air stripper/barrel alignment adapter in all three. and there are no baffles inside my shrouds. Is this something that Air Venturi includes with the wooded stock versions?

You need to check your crown first. That gauntlet barrel is terrible. Before you use a borescope you need to clean the barrel. I’m a gunsmith and build precision rifles. The crown damage will impact accuracy.
