FUN FACTS: It’s a trap, so don’t fall in -My reviews are factual/truthful EVEN if you DON’T LIKE ME, I can say what I want without hesitation -Gauntlet 1 & 2 have different rate of twist, 22cal confirmed by Umarex - Gauntlet 1 & 2 barrels are reversed, G1 has thin lands, G2 has thick lands -G1 is setup for lighter/shorter projectiles, smaller porting, slower twist rate -G2 is setup for heavier/longer projectiles, bigger porting, faster twist rate -Gauntlet 2 is unfinished, barrel needs reamed farther down, G1 is fine from factory -You should NOT have to pay extra to have the G2 made correctly -You can be more accurate with a break barrel than G2 using lighter pellets -Be careful who you trust because they maybe a shill to the airgun industry
@@jumpkickman1993 yep no problem! And only shills of the industry would talk this gun up in 22cal (cant say for the 25) cause I haven't heard from any of them who reviewed this since I called them out on Facebook (tagged) but no response as of yet
Big difference in reviews between people who were sent the gun for review and those who bought it and then did a review, so that says a lot. If you're going to use it with slugs or heavier pellets that's fine but everything you pointed out is vital to know for people who plan on buying the gun. No hate here HaHa. Thanks James
Thank you James for another great video and review. I'm certain that us Air gunners appreciate you bringing things like these to our attention. Keep up the good work. 👍
Excellent review. I just got my gen 1. It was on sale. I could not pass it up for 2 bills. What I noticed was some very cheap qualities about it. But. watching videos I also saw good things about it. Accuracy has been one of the positive. These days we are getting crap sold to us.
My boy is a machinist that makes his own parts and was a barrel maker. He, I believe, would give you a congrats. For giving this company a major wakeup and fly right kik in the ass!
Thanks James I was thinking about the 2 as my first pcp. I'll look into others. Keep up your work on reviews we all like honesty on true & false claims.
I just ordered and waiting for one and i saw your video, I have been watching your videos a while, nice work, by the way! Thanks for the heads up and sounds like i will be swapping out my old G1 barrel, AS YOU said will work, and DonnyFL shortShroud, etc, and make up for your errors of point! Thank you for being honest and EXPLAINING, rather than using conjecture. I believe in DATA gathering.
Thanks man. Good video. I trust you and youtuber extreme airguns when it comes to ballistics and the guts of airguns. I just subscribed even though I have watched many of your previous videos. Thanks for exposing the frauds.
I've spent literally thousands of dollars on Umarex products, as I'm sure a lot of us out here have, and I gotta admit that this is very disappointing. For whatever reason I was never really interested in buying a Gauntlet, but that dont mean that I'm not seriously bothered by this. I've had a great experience with Umarex so far...they've literally sent me brand new guns to replace guns that broke on me and I was very impressed with that because they did it no questions asked. I've been following you for a long time now and developed a lot of trust in what you say, so please keep us posted with any new developments. Thanks James.
I’m up in the air for my first PCP and this sealed it… definitely moved the Air Venturi Avenger to the top of the list. I don’t trust Umarex anymore… they’re just in competition to put out cheap products that perform cheap. With todays technology (especially in air rifles) there is no reason for them to put out a product that isn’t more refined and better than their first. Otherwise why make another unfinished product unless you’re just counting on people buying it for profit margins
@@greg6162i own a hammer and an AEA challenger pro 30 cal both shoot accurate but i kinda prefer the challenger pro hammer though is a powerhouse for some people it had issues for me it worked maybe they had some flaws in some models i dont own the gauntlet but i might get one
Me and my buddy are both United States Marine combat veterans and we both bought g2's and we've only had them on the Range three different times and my buddies G2 already wore out an o-ring and we literally were only on the Range three times and there was not even 200 rounds shot through his weapon yet and it destroyed an O-ring so instead of sending him some new O-rings to install or to have installed they wouldn't do that they told him he would have to pay for the shipping to send the gun back to them they will install the new o-ring and then he'd have to pay for the shipping to have the gun set back and his gun would no longer be able to be used by the time he sent it back and they fixed it and send it back to him you can guarantee there would have been a month or more without his weapon so that and requiring him to pay the shipping there and back instead of just putting some a couple few O-rings in an envelope and mailing it out that instant that day to him so he can fix his weapon himself within a couple days they wanted to tie his weapon up so he wouldn't have it for a month or more and have to pay the shipping himself there and back and instead of just sending him some O-rings to have it fixed himself or to put them in himself they were not making sense so then I called them and I got Stern with them and told them we're both Marines and the weapons only 2 months old and we've only not even shot 200 rounds through it and if the damn O-rings are already going to hell on it then maybe we made a mistake in picking the evidence in The Gauntlet to and that we're professionals and we require more performance than just 200 rounds through a pellet gun and it's already shot the O-ring out of it and they weren't making it convenient or taken up any of the cost of shipping to fix it for him and there wasn't even 200 Round Shot Through It I told him that I was not aware of their shity service and their shity performance and being a professional whose life has dependent on his weapon at times and I told him that if I knew that their service and their warranty and their customer service policies forcing us to pay for shipping to send the weapon back to fix their junk design was unacceptable so where can I get reimbursed for my weapon I want nothing to do with it even though I hadn't had no problems and I love the thing and we obviously had a different person that I was talking to on that day and they totally agreed and couldn't believe that somebody else in their company had tried to get us to send the weapon all the way back just to replace a bolt O ring then it wore out already and hadn't even seen 200 rounds through it and then you wanted to pay have him pay for shipping to fix their malfunction in their product failure and why would you ship the gun clear back to your company just to put a little bolt o ring in it instead of you should already had half a dozen O-rings put it in an envelope and on their way to us so that if we had any further problems we would have all rings on hand but the person I talked to that day totally agreed apologize said that he could understand exactly where I'm coming from did not want to lose our business and they would send half a dozen O-rings to us well LOL if I wouldn't have got involved my buddy would have been going through a hassle and I said I can't believe you don't have a standard service and warranty department policy that you would know and that the other guy would know and everybody who answered the phone would know who's who's talking to customers and I said what kind of shit is this that we don't even get 200 pellets Shot Through Your Weapon and I said to make us pay for shipping to ship a weapon all the way back to the company and to pay shipping to get it back to my house when it's fixed just to have a little o-ring fixed that should not be defective already anyway how many more problems are we going to find and why don't you have a policy of if the weapon malfunctions that is your fault and your product defection or defective product can you make us pay for the shipping to have your defects fixed in a brand new weapon I said that's terrible service and I would have never bought from this company if I didn't know that ahead of time he assured me that that wasn't the case and that that person that we talked to last week was wrong but anyway that was troubling for me that I had to get involved and anyway I don't let companies dictate to me or tell me this and that and I got to pay for shipping to ship them they're defective product that I just bought this brand new so that they can fix it and ship it back to me and put another defective part of the same thing back on it and I saw it makes me red flag red flag red flag about this company now I hope I don't have problems with mine cuz I will freaking lose my shit on them if they try and pull any of that crappy service and warranty policies on me
I own the 1, and am specifically buying the 2 in .30 cal for hunting with slugs and heavier pellets. So if I’m reading the responses and your responses to those, then I think I’m good. I was initially sold on the AEA Pro in .30. I can pick this up, same caliber, nice scope, and even the compressor for a hundred or so bucks over the AEA, and it’s made in country if I believe correctly. I appreciate the review. It struck me funny when Rick Ustler was having the “jam” the slugs in while loading, since my 1 shoots them effortlessly. Anyway, again, thank you for the honesty. Yeah some might get bent, but screwum. I was a contractor and I’ve lost money on a few jobs simply because I found a flaw, even a minute, small flaw that only I’d know about. I’d rather keep my name in tact then have it ruined. Hopefully they’ll get this figured out by the time I buy in or around October.
Thanks James. Good info on the g2, everyone is just trying to upsell it to you as soon as it came out. Im still saving for a new pcp just not sure what to get yet. My collection of the g1, eagle claw , aea varmint and avenger still work and get the job done so not in a rush to spend. Good videos brother, very informative and always fun to watch.
I like what you said about the pellet, I checked my .25 and it is way into the barrel but what is interesting, the rear of the pellet hangs out past the air port not good in my book....keep up the no bull shit reviews.....Great
I thoroughly enjoy my Umarex gauntlet 22 and 25 calibers. I don't understand why Umarex did not make their second version with a side lever, I just don't understand. I was thinking of getting one, but when I found out they still made it bolt action that in itself was a deal-breaker.
Agreed here too. My Seneca Aspen, with the safety lever outside the trigger guard, lack of needing a $700 compressor, side lever action, fine accuracy, has made many guns obsolete in my opinion, including bolt actions And I've removed 1.7 lbs from it.
You have stated many truths about the G2 barrel deficiencies. I wish other compensated "reviewers" out there were as open about the weapons they reviews. Amazing that a company like Umarex with huge R&D budgets can overlook a fact like rifling encroaching on proper projectile seating in the breech. This was done by design for some unknown reason...and I'm sure you will find out who or what is behind this. Good work...stay honest.
That's why I suspect a few guns could be purposely made deficient by the (chinese?) mfg, to effect the parent company's reputation while the parent company doesn't realize the problem exists. It would be good if James could inspect the other reviewers' Umerex Gen 2 .22s, or at least another Gen 2 from anyone could be inspected.
Thanks, man, that is what airgun enthusiasts need. Facts. I am thinking of buying a .25 or .30 cal PCP. Gauntlet was my first option, but now.... What other options you may suggest at the same price point?
in pb's you would hand load a cartridge so the bullet engages the rifling to eliminate the bullet engaging at a angle. some manufactures leave way too long a free bore so the bullet can possibly cant before entering the barrel, so when done right the bullet is in perfect alignment with bore as the brass casing is locked into the chamber and bullet engages rifling straight. now you can damage a gun and shooter doing this if you are not careful. with air guns i have no idea what this would do because there is no brass casing keeping the bullet in perfect alignment with bore as with a pb.
hello sir ..... do you know if umarex has since ironed out "the bugs" in the G2?...... Was thinking of getting a new .22 (i have the G1 and love it) i have the avenger in 25 (awesome)
Thanks James for your honest observations I'm really leaning towards getting the G2 in 30 cal do you think it has the same issues? Regards from South Africa 🇿🇦
Glad I saw this. I was thinking about one but I actually didn’t like the fact that it would be almost impossible to hand pump. Don’t understand why they would make an entry level rifle so hard to hand pump.
Interesting read. Any “shill” updates? I just received .25 G1 at the $200 sell price. It shoots well but waiting on milder weather before much more target use. However, no way would I pay the G2 price. JSB Match Diabolo Exact King .25 Cal, 25.39 and JSB Match Diabolo Exact King MKII Heavy .25 Cal, 33.95 both “snap in” but not hard to seat. Pushing pellet back out show rifling on the head and skirt of both pellets. My .22 Cal AF SS shows rifling only on head of pellet.
Have you had a chance to review the gen 2 30 cal? It seems like they addressed at least a couple of these issues from what I've seen, but none have been this thorough.
I got the gauntlet 30. I do remember it being a little rough with SOME ammo. The FX 44.75 and 50 grainers loaded smooth as butter but 54 grain neilsens would not go in because they engaged the rifling too much. I ended up finding the griffin boattail slugs and it is very easy to chamber and I can get 1/8th inch groups at 50. I noticed the G2 is geared more for slugs not pellets. The increased velocity destabilized the pellets for the 30 and was less accurate with them. Im using 78 grain boattail slugs going 870fps and it has been amazing. Griffins will work in any of the gauntlet G2s and will give good killing power and accuracy.
Interesting ! I was leaning for the gen2 after a popular channel told me it was "better" than the G1 but after seing this I dont think it will happen Sadly the G1 might be unavaible before I can afford it [I might need an avenger but that's higher pressure/not hand pump friendly right? Always something!]
I just bought my Gauntlet 2 in 22 cal about 2 months ago, it is very accurate, I could hit a small house Mouse at 100 yards no problem, I wonder if they fixed the problem after you made this video, I'm gonna pull mine apart and see for myself after some research, thanks for the awesome videos man!
Thanks alot for this honest review I have been looking at getting another pcp but 25 cal because I have been shooting a gas piston air rifle for convenience from hand pump scuba tanks and compressor I was jus about to order this gen2 gauntlet in 25 cal thank you for helping me save money and other as well in really need another 25 cal and I have been going back and forth with my self trying to make a decision if you can give any advice on a 25 cal nice video keep'em coming
Every precision shooter air or powder knows that you want to be as near as possible to the "lands" or rifling without touching it . Good observation. Well done.
I almost purchased the Gauntlet gen 2 , that said I didn’t and I am glad! Thanks for the explanation of the issues. I am looking at alternatives but taking time to research them. Thanks again!
I absolutely DO NOT reccomend an air rifle for self defense but If you absolutely have to get an air rifle in .22 for self defense, get an AEA Challenger it has about 70 ft-lbs of energy
I put a 4500 psi .5litre bottle on my 25 caliber G1 with a 2200 psi regulator with the hajimoto tune kit installed. I handled a new gauntlet I like the stock but it's not worth it to me after building a proper gun.
The amount of bullet jump required is subjective to the specific ammo and gun being used. In reloading rifle rounds some guns like 20 thousandths jump, some are more accurate cramed into the rifling. I run 15 thousandths jump myself. Factory ammo will have a huge jump to accommodate any gun but suffers in accuracy because of it.
Thanks James. I stand by my decision of modding my Gen 1, It's all Haji'd out to the max. Big air cylinder like the Gen 2 has, adjustable power, 2 stage trigger, carbon fiber wrap. It looks so badass and shoots like a laser.
In the end did it cost more to get it similar to gen2? I'm looking to get my first rifle and not looking to spend to much modifying it, but I have no problem doing so if needed. Basically, modified gen1 or stock gen2?
@@michaelb.42112 at the time of this video he was doing Gen 2 packages (3 tiers/levels of mods) and knew of this problem which he was fixing it by reaming out the breech in tier 2 package which was $700 or more ...double the price of the gun anywhere...and this should have been done at the factory, he's the only contractor for Umarex to do this work thats why it's a setup....
@@STKO2011 Wow. Well, all I can say is I'm happy with my Gen 1. I can say the Haji power mod does seem like it stole a little power away, but it is super accurate since it's average 850 fps. I got it from Craigslist all modded except the power mod which I did. I got it for $450 !
I reload, your correct a jump 6-10 thousands in 308 is for match grade. Pushing a bullet into the lands is an over pressure setup and extremely dangers. Your info just saved me from waisting money on a junk pcp. Thanks
In 308 yeah it can be an issue although it is also done safely in match settings but that doesn't matter in airguns because they can't pressure spike like a powder burning gun.
We (ALL) Appreciate your HONESTY!!! you just gained another subscriber,, Mr Hajimoto has made a lucrative business out of making the G-2 right. Btw what compressor brand is dependable? Endless list of decent guns yet it seems nobody can make a decent compressor and they all come from China. But then again so did the Avenger with a little better luck, I wonder if its still holding up? Thanks.✌️
If you want to be able to tinker or change settings easily on the go get the Avenger, Gauntlet is set out of the box it can be modified if you what you're doing
Does anybody know if the Gen 2 30 caliber has the same Barrel rifling and pellet seating into the rifling and the Chamber not fully reamed out and finished properly issues that the 22 caliber G2 has
What are you saying gen 1 dont touch lens when you when you close bolt mine does can load pellet push it back out it has rifling on pellet what does that mean
@@airgunner0335 if the shorter pellet like the 25.4gr 25cal are rough and have to be forced to get bolt closed, you can tell by closing the bolt and pushing it back out with a cleaning rod then it has the same issue as the 22cal
Hey, James, how's it going? I'll just curious. Did you ever get to the bottom of why they did what they did? If you made a video on it, can you put the link in.
hey Mitch, doing well , hopefully you are too....far as I got was Hajimoto was contracted to work on UX guns, he was charging over $700 to fix this issue in one of his packages about barrel reaming, the G2 22cal was setup for heavy ammo from factory that's why every reviewer shot 25.4gr pellets in 22cal, the only other G2 that maybe worth buying was the 30cal but its known to have bottle leaks as well, but it was accurate with pellets and slugs in my videos...hope this helps
@@skinnymitchairgunbrotherho7152 believe me I know and feel the sameway...especially after Haji came after me and ripped off my oring delete kit, his is called NO ring aint that something
@@STKO2011 Exactly, and them sending us guns that they know are broken. Or Shabar Then charge you for shipping and repairs. I know there's some companies out there that back there product, but ninety nine percent, no. I wish there was some way we could hold them accountable.
I think Umarex screwed up by setting up the G2 to use the heavier projectiles In .22. To me, the reason to have a .22 is so you can shoot the cheaper ammo. If I have to shoot .22 cal 25.4 JSB's I might as well get a .25 I'll take a Gen 1 .22 any day.
Nice little kernel of knowledge now in 2023. I just bought the gen 1 Gauntlet. It's now using the crap barell. It takes farce like a little hit with you're palm to get it loaded and it's throwing off shots and damaging the pellet before even shooting. I'm so pissed!
You must not be a United States Marine or must have never relied on your weapon in battle to take life or to save life in battle and once you are trained and have to rely on a weapon to save your life or to take life through combat in war you start to care about every little detail and all the specifications of each and every different weapon so for you to criticize him or question why he's doing so much complaining about the different details why would you even question the man who's making the video on why he is explaining the difference is he's obviously doing a review of the G1 between the G2 and he's telling us the difference of his findings and the difference is in the barrels and the problems that he's found so why would you call him out like he's just complaining about things that aren't relevant or true he's disclosing his findings and giving you a full technical for a engineer and a marksman's standpoint of the differences between the two and the problems are differences in the two that they're obviously shouldn't be problems in the G2 that weren't in the G1 you don't create a second generation of any product to create or make new problems you keep all the things that work the same and then you make the things that you can improve on better but you don't make changes are differences in the second generation of any model of product you don't have problems or changes in that second generation product that are different from the first that aren't improving the performance or the accuracy or the product and he is questioning that like a intelligent human being and he's taking the time to investigate the differences in the rifling and to discover that the pellet is getting seated into the rifling when you close the bolt which is not good and he is discovering problems he's not complaining he is doing an awesome informative comparison review from the G1 to G2 and he's found some things that don't make sense why would you make changes in the barrel that don't improve the weapon so I asked why would you sir question him or make a comment take the time to make a comment questioning why he's whining he's not whining you're the one whining if you don't like what he has to say then scroll on but to make a comment on his video asking him why all the whining and complaining LOL he's not complaining that's not whining he's doing an awesome very informative down to the little intricate details of things that you obviously didn't realize or didn't find out for yourself so why are you complaining about him complaining about the truth and questioning why he cares or is complaining or listing the differences the question is why are you watching this video and commenting on why he is complaining you're obviously a Weekender who doesn't get into the intricate details of their weapons and I'm not criticizing you for that but why are you criticizing him just scroll on and forget about it if you got to stop and make a comment like oh why are you complaining about the weapon just shoot it but he is a engineer those are the type of people that design the products of the world they have to be concerned with every little detail and the ballistics and the specs of weapons are the most important things in the weapon he's the kind of person that makes products better in the world and you're the kind of person that isn't so why would you complain to him for being more knowledgeable and investigative and questioning things that don't make sense but some people just don't get it and you know what you don't have to get it you can still have just as much fun as you want to have with that weapon and not know anything about it that he's talked about but why would you question him for questioning the differences in the weapons that don't make sense and that don't make the G2 a better weapon the chamber isn't reamed out properly and the Chamber isn't finished properly and when you close the bolt it slams a pellet into the rifling so the pellets already wedged into the rifling before he even gets shot so that means there's a resistance on the pellet already in the pellets jammed in there it's not smoothly seated it's got resistance on it already before you pulled the trigger which means the projectile doesn't even get to start moving forward freely at all when you pull the trigger it's the bullet starts in a jammed locked position with resistance on it that is no good that is not a good design and that is not something that you would change from the G1 to the G2 on purpose because it makes the quality of the shot less accurate and makes no sense I agree with him totally
I know we've had words and differences in opinion over time, but one thing I'll say is I feel like I can trust you. I'm so burnt on the paid shills in the airgun (and powder) industry. Honesty goes a long way with me. A lot of these shills must have no conscience. I don't know how some of them sleep at night. I'm not a Guanlet fan and will likely never own one, but it seems to me the smart money is on just upgrading the bottle on the G1 for the added shot count and call it a day. I think Umarex got it wrong on the G2. In more ways than one. Hopefully they learn from that moving forward.
Thanks I appreciate that, I know exactly what you mean especially when you think one of these shills is your friend but come to find out they are in on this G2 problem and charging $715 package to fix this barrel issue, the only one who is contracted by UX...I made it perfectly clear to him on Facebook that he's on my radar, Ray even knows now and liked what I did with this video, it was shown on the Umarex Gauntlet Facebook page before I made it public RU-vid....yeah I take flack for the oring delete kits but you know what it's worth it because I reinvest money into the channels and can say what I want without breaking a contract or sponsors...its not easy making ad revenue as hunting/gun channel when other genres make higher percentage per views and as of now ammo and guns are getting more expensive due to inflation
@@joshuagibson2520 that's why I'm really pissed....he wants to make claims about these barrels in the G1 and G2 being the same in 22 and using a bore scope saying "ALL Gauntlets" which is bs on his Facebook page and rifling/transfer port clearly show its G2 barrel...I've been straightening out his followers for over a week now on Umarex Gauntlet Shooters Association Facebook page cause they started piling up on my post about what I found out....rifling, chamber, ammo selection, typical observations...etc
