In case you thought you'd never agree with Michael Gove on anything, think again. A Guardian writer and a then-Times writer wrestle with the ideological dogma of the concept of mandatory Indentity Cards, interesting in light of the apparent moves of the current Government towards making citizens log a digital "health pass" on the COVID app in order to gain entry to hospitality and retail establishments, with the risk of generating a divide between sections of society who wish to "register as clean" and those who don't feel the need. Also discussed is how the power we grant to elected leaders should be assuming only the power that we as the electorate devolve up, and not the other way around - governing by consent rather than through diktat.
