Black and gray f150 is a 1993 4x4 5.0 302 with Flo-tech longtube headers 2 1/4in straight pipe. Dark red f150 is a 1992 4x4 5.0 302 with 2in straight pipe with dual cherry bomb glasspacks
I love the rumbling idle of a “cammed” V8 breathing through long-tube headers and turbo mufflers! Much more subtle until you open the throttle! I have a 1993 long-bed 4x4 with a 351W.
I think this is all about preference, the straight pipes have a more raw, aggressive sound while the glass packs have a smoother sound and deeper rumble
I tried the strait pipe on my truck, I didn't like it lol I just got a 2 1/4 inch glass pack. I prefer the growl of a glass pack more than a screech of a strait pipe. Yours sounds very nice!
Me too! I love the grey better. Sounds throaty and loud. Sounds tough. The red one dosnt sound like it could pull an acorn from the ground. The grey one sounds like it has torque. The red on sounds like its got tweark.
Glass packs always sound better than straight. Straight makes a lot of noise but the noise is unpleasant. Glass packs give the noise a pleasurable tone :)
I think the straight pipes sound more raw and mean, it works well on a truck. the glasspacks sound fucking mean too but in a more refined way. both sound great, thanks for the comparison.
we used to heat up our pipes and then stick a hose in em and run cold water up in there to crack the glass :) had glass packs on all my lowriders back in the day. got flowmasters on my lowered chevy silverado, but this vid has made me decide to stick some glass packs on it.
them trucks looks nice. I got myself 1996 f150 4x4 with 302 in it 170,000 miles on the body and engine and still going. i use it for hauling heavy stuff and metal scrap and i use it as daily driving too. never lets me down true BUILT FORD TOUGH
They both sound amazing, which one would you recommend for my truck??? I have a 96 f-150 xlt 5.0 302 4x4... Crew cab, short bed... These trucks sound awesome, which way should I go???
You want more power or empty noise? That's all you need to ask yourself. Headers and the bigger exhaust improve your throttle response and gain a little power, while the small cherry bombs just sound cool.
quick question. i have a straight pipe on my 2000 F-150 and was gunna put a glasspack in it, this is the only video ive seen were its actually loud all the others seem quieter than my truck...i dont wanna buy this thing if its gunna make my truck quieter, or is it cause you have duals?
straight pipes always sound as if the motor is lugging on the big end I've ran em both and went back to the packs every time. now straights do sound like a beast while shifting out but both does that great
the cherrybombs have a smooth growl where the popping is timed prefectly, but the straightpipes have a wide, open roar, but the pops are uneven and sound like a fouled sparkplug. regardless, I'd be happy with both sounds.
what kind of glass pack did u use for your 92 i have a 80 350 im trying to finish the exhaust work on it im running on y pipe rite now cause i took the stock muffler off but i like it sounding mean
is it really loud inside the red one with the glass packs? because i have a straight pipe exhaust 2.5 inch on my 94 bronco and was wondering if glasspacks would help quiet it down inside the cab because as of now i cant hear people talk or my radio.
You're funny. I've had all of the different crap. I'm old. Glasspacks with true dual exhaust. The straight pipes just didn't get it. Glasspacks are like a nice heavy Metal Song. Like a good melodic nicely rifted Megadeth, Metallica or Judas Priest Song. You can turn it up to ten or just have a nicely rumbled idle. If you're a teenager you can still crank it while passing up the Grumpy old bitch/bastard neighbors.
I want same setup in this red truck on my truck. I wander if the 2 inch pipe can be heard well in cab. I want one thst can be heard with good sound but isn't a Neibors disturber or ticket getter. Any help greatly appreciated!
i have a 79 ford f100 ranger with a 302 motor and c4 transmission. i put straight pipes on it from the manifold straight out the back and have 2 cherrybomb glasspacks but i can seem to get the sound that im looking for, i dont hear any popping when i let off of the throttle to slow down. Where am i going wrong at or what am i missing? Any suggestions?
how did you get the long tube headers on ur truck? im buying headers for my truck and found a pair of longtube but was told it would not fit that i would have to get shorty headers
I like both trucks! I'm considering going with Flo-tech headers and cherry bomb extreme mufflers with 6inch Magnaflow tips? I'm looking for a load throaty sound to go along with my 95 Chevy. Would you consider this a good purchase?
@lumpyrocker how do you get it so loud. I got nothing on mine, no cats, mufflers or anything. Its true duals and probably only as loud as the grey one. I still have the original set up in front with the 02 sensor being mounted in between the the 2 pipes so I'm wondering If I seperate the 02 sensor and put it on one pipe that it would open it up more.
I like the Red truck sound better just because the black sounded LOUDER hahaha I'm thinking about doing this to my 96 F150 but my question is, do they have STOCK headers and did you guys removed the catalytic converters? I was thinking straight 2.5" pipe from headers all the way back...
Adam Sheridan V8! V8! V8! The I6 is a decent engine but back in the day pretty much any engine lacked power, especially in trucks. The I6 will feel sluggish.
and to dude saying it's the glass inside them it's never been a pack with actual glass in them it's fiberglass packing around the inner straight thru baffling
the top pipe is 2in and the bottom is 2 1/4in. I did that to my 92 with A 302 but you have to have the pipes bent to make them fit right youre probaly better off having it done at a shop
where are you from? im in florida and same goes for us. i havent had cats on any of my vehicles and ive had 6. always the first thing that comes off. i had a 81 firebird and ran open headers for 2 months straight and it was a daily driver and never once got pulled over. haha. i actually just bought a 94 f150 with a 302 today and was wondering what glasspacks would sound on it. i definitely like it. decision made. im buying glasspacks tomorrow :)
i think the glass packs have a better sound to them where the straight pipes are just loud but their both very nice trucks ford all the way. what you think a glass pack would sound like on a 292 with a cross over pipe on my 1964 ford 350 and can i get two pipes its all stock with only 1 pipe with the cross over. only the muffler is rusty the pipes are still good so i am hoping to get a glass pack this summer.
Mine is from VA, been here in OH for 2 years. I plan on fluid filming the underside once I find a decent gun to spray it with. I'd rather spray it twice a year than have it rot out.
Mufflers or not, you can instantly hear the difference between headers and stock manifolds. Stock manifolds just sound more congested. Its hard to describe
@@chrishansen7004 I always assumed it was because most truck motors have different compression ratios. Like how a 4.6 in a f150 is going to have a different compression ratio than a 4.6 in a mustang due to different intended uses of the motor.
would it sound any different on a 5.8l 351 cuz id love my 93 to sound like that right now its all original with 350,000 miles, just wanna make sure i can pull it off with that tired of a truck
I'm partial to Straightpiped, Biased maybe, but I'm used to running them on a 351 or 390, I just bought my sisters 95 F150 Eddie Bauer, and it's got the little 302 in it, I don't like how they get high pitched and raspy at higher RPMs, but the glaspacks (and maybe the diameter difference) make a world of difference, nice trucks you got there, and thank you for posting this, gave me a broader aspect as to what I want.
Glasspacks sound the best. Straight pipe on that truck is too much, but i lopped the muffler off of my 01 chevy and i like it. Straight pipes really depend on the engine and exhaust setup.
