My parents sat on couches located at an angle to the TV such that I had to turn to my right to look at them. During Headlines with Leno I'd often turn around to investigate muted sounds to see Mom tearing up with a tissue from a well used Kleenex box at the corner lamp table. Dad was also so amused watching Mom crack up he too was dabbing his eyes. Me? I was usually trying to keep on track with Jay's jokes while considering what a joke meant. Eventually I got faster on this kind of adult humor. Thank God Dad bought a TIVO. 😊
we had the privilege of Jay buying an estate in our community a cpl yrs ago. Since then he's done walk on's at our local improvisational comedy club, he's head lined a benefit for a local firefighter suffering from cancer , and a few other grest things in the community, great guy, class act.
Nice, clear collection, thank you. For those checking comments before viewing, there are about 10 minutes in the middle that is actually an interview with Robin Williams, and part of a segment called "Things we found at the 99 cent store".
Many, many comedians are mentally ill or neurodivergent. Andy Richter has persistent depressive disorder, meaning he is always mildly depressed and doesn't feel intense joy or euphoria. Jim Carrey has ADHD and depression. Bill Corbett of MST3K has depression. Michael Ian Black has depression. Sarah Silverman was diagnosed with clinical depression as a child and has had depression to varying degrees her whole life. John Mulaney has anxiety. Conan O'Brien has anxiety and depression. I am a neurodivergent, mentally ill, and disabled US American. It makes me proud to see my people succeeding in the field of comedy.
UK comedy is amazing for neurodivergent and mentally ill representation right now. OCD: Jon Richardson Anxiety: James Acaster, Jimmy Carr Autism: Fern Brady ADHD: Stephen Fry, Rhod Gilbert, Russel Howard, Lee Mack, Kiri Pritchard-McClean, Sue Perkins, Johnny Vegas
When you say "he suffers from depression," that is misleading. That doesn't mean he is sad all of the time. Depression is a mind disease that causes a person to not be able to cope with the everyday pressures and stresses of life. Medications can help with depression.
WIlliams suffered from an extreme case of Lewy Body Dementia. And while it was not diagnosed until after his death, it is believed to be the reason for his extreme anxiety, depression, and paranoia. The doctors who performed the autopsy said it was one of the worst cases they had ever seen. He knew he had a brain disorder. He was degrading rapidly and did not want to get to the point where he no longer knew himself. There is no treatment for it.
I got tears running down my cheeks. Thanks for the laughs. You're a million times better than ANY other late night tv show. We miss you. I don't turn my TV on any more. YT is good
marks mopar - We live in horrible times that produced the politically oriented late night comedians that sometimes are the only shows that keep us relatively sane. I do miss those more innocent times. You never knew what political party they belonged to. And it was better.
Normally I would complain when the video says headlines but cuts to a segment all of a sudden. This cut was to Robin Williams at his freakin best. Hilarious man! No complaimts at all for real!
I've met him a few times years ago in the 1980s at the rock store in malibu on motorcycles. Nicest guy ever. He'll spend an hour talking motors and cars with you
I see him from time to time. I live around the same block radius to his car garage by the Bob Hope airport in Burbank. You can catch him on a sunday morning driving his classic vehicles. Hes a cool cat.
He came to my hometown once and I got to watch him in person. I didn’t get to meet him because we didn’t pay for that in advance (it was a fundraiser) but my friend got to and said he was really cool
its the same thing as roasting videos on youtube look up joe santagato or fresh prince yup they do a great job and they are not children but not quite old enough to remember this.
This is real-life comedy you can watch again and again and it's still funny! (I've always laughed even more when there's a woman in the audience who cackles whenever she'd really tickled.) Stay safe.
Once when I was a kid me and my mom were shopping for new kitchen knives and we found a set of Chinese knives and the first Waning on it said "Keep out of children." not out of reach just keep out of children. Pretty sound advice.
Back in the early 80's there was an ad our newspaper at a woman's clothing store it read like this "Mastectomy sale: 50% off". I cut it out and was going to send it to "Real People" (remember that one?)>
Robin Williams I truly miss you. There will never be anyone like you. No one will ever come close. I bet Heaven is a riot with you and Carlin. I truly truly miss Leno. He always treated his guests like friends. He just let Robin run with his comedy too. He never cut him off. Please come back to us! Fallon was not a good replacement.
he's also got a much younger crowd- seems to be more college kids, less adults like Leno had. Of course Leno took over when I was in college, so I didn't technically grow up with him (more Carson), and he couldn't hold a flame to Johnny, but still Fallon is a joke...
I was 12 when Johnny Carson stopped doing the show. I don't know at what age I started watching it, but I do remember when I stopped. I stopped the second time I watched it with Jay Leno. That was one of my first the world changes and it sucks sometimes moment. Even worse without Robin Williams. I grew up as a very young child watching Mork and Mindy. I can't believe I remember it, because I was so young, but I do.
Never cared for Williams myself. I didn't think he was funny. Also believe he abused illicits and it affected his health. the guy that was funny? Tim Conway. and of course, Leno.
@@wesleyhite8203 It'll be the opposite. The native media of Leno's and Carson's of TV is not the current generation. Every successive generation of media loses stuff from the prior. There will simply be less of the old stuff over time. They aren't making any more TV shows. Tens of millions more people will know Seth Myers and Jimmy Kimmel than Carson or Steve Allen. I stand by my initial comment.
I used to stay up in weekday nights just to see his monologues and headlines Monday nights and go to bed after. At 6:35 I began to think that guy was one of the luckiest men alive!
