Cracking clarification - The troopy roof skin pulled away from the upper frame of the conversion enough to break the seal which allowed water to seep in. Troopy roof skins are now panel bonded to the upper frame. Panel bond is impossible to break, the aluminium will peel apart before the glue breaks so the issue has been well and truly solved.

Talking of sucking. There are venturi vacuums. You plug in compressed air, and it sucks rather than blows. research "venturi vacuum generators" Sucking the air out of a bed, one option. The other if you are long distance might be those vacuum bags to pack clothes in a very compact space and keep them dry. An experiment to try.

Normally don't watch reviews on things I have no interest in buying but really enjoyed the fuel tank and roof top reviews. I think it's because you point out the Cons as well as Pros which really feels like an honest opinion. Keep up the good work. Marty from Perth

I suspect the overloading the bedding space was also a contributing factor you had with the original latches failing. If I was considering a headspace product, I think the high top version of this despite it being taller than the slim version is still by far the best looking troopy conversion out there and a no brainer for the extra space you get.
@OverlandTravellers
@OverlandTravellers 8 месяцев назад
Yes I agree definitely a factor in the latches breaking. A lot of pressure.

Are you going to do a more close-up review of your new high-top update? If not, this episode would have been the ideal time to do it. It would have been good to see more b-roll close up clips of the new updates, including before and after high-top update. Totally agree with you that finding a comfortable bed in a RTT is key to the entire experience.

I did review the update at the end, it’s exactly the same as the previous one, only difference is it’s 40mm higher, allowing more bedding and an easier pack up.

It is a beautiful conversation, but I would suggest more of a soft roader of conversations. 1. Latches - All conversations suffer from this as they all move on those bumpy corrugated roads. 2. Trap doors - I am not sold on the idea because if you are blessed to be dexterous enough to climb through a small hole, you are then left with the fact you have to loose valuable cupboard space below so you can get out on both sides 🤷🏻‍♂️. 3. Mattresses - we could call this the Goldilocks syndrome 😂. They will forever be the one personal item the manufacturers can’t pin down because everyone is different 🙈 4. Leaking/cracking - While I hear you about mattresses etc and “your” mistake, I have not heard of any issues with the other conversions breaking like this 🤔. Only latches should be designed to break when over filling or movement on bad roads is needed. 5. Headspace’s big winner was they had a slim look conversion? The irony is now that product development has happened and they can fit bedding in they are now the same height as the competitors. I’ll finish by saying (with bias 😊) that my new AluCab 2024 gen 3 Hercules is awesome. It is still probably second to the looks of the headspace, but you won’t beat it for ruggedness I suspect. It has additional space for pillows etc with the standard mattress which is much better than the old . Finally thanks for your honesty, maybe one day we’ll see the headspace here in South Africa. Australia made is great, but true success is having world wide dealerships.🤙

Mattress thickness is not the only variable to consider. Foam density is probably more important. Higher quality foam is more dense. The Dunlop HG ‘hospital grade’ series was the best I found from a local upholsterer. I got 100mm thick and it’s very comfortable. Pricier, but worth it. Don’t get cheap Clark rubber.
@OverlandTravellers
@OverlandTravellers 8 месяцев назад
Yes that is correct. The new mattress for the headspace is a 75mm multi foam mattress. Better than previous but I still wanted extra thickness personally.

Thank you for all those information. My husband and I are comfortable creatures and good sleep is our priority. We are happy to spend more for a comfortable seat and sleep if we travelling for a long period. Do you think it's possible to travel to all those remote areas with an offroad trailer? I think for us, we will choose a vehicle and a trailer in the future.

Maaat. In our panel van days we used to rate our mattresses for static use and for, um, let me say it this way, ‘dynamic’ use. Just sayin! Can be a deal breaker 😉

Great review of a product I'll never be able to afford or even contemplate on a platform that's a lottery dream for me. With respect, you've had and solved problems with equipment that is way above my pay grade. Best wishes as always.

Thank you for the review- I’m very interested in this and appreciate the review. Do you know if they can get engineering for every state - heard some rumors about that? I agree it seems to be the best of the similar products from what I have seen so far.

Kings Kwiky Pop Top RTT tent vs Camp King RTT (ie. $899 vs $9,570), for 10+ times (or 1000+%) more expensive, you bet I'll expect the Camp King RTT to be far superior. But is it better than other RTTs in the market that are less than half the price? You be the judge. One thing I most like about the Camp King RTT is that they're Aussie made. But for me who has no sponsorship from the brand, I just can't justify the price. And while the Kings Kwiky Pop Up RTT is definitely at the low quality end in the market, it allowed you to get out there and explore at a budget. I bet it was still better than a ground tent for your application. Having said that I'll never buy one. I'm happy with my Darche Ridgeback.

This isn’t unique to RTT, it’s the same for everything, diminishing return for your money. I can spend 3 times as much on a camera it’s only 20% better.

Please advise on the availability of the product in Southern Africa. How soon can one have it and who is your recommended agent in South Africa?

Amazing channel guys! A bit worried about this review anyway and your experience. As far as I understand you had a prototype which needs improvement….but for a price. I live in Europe and maybe too risky to ship one here which is not bulletproof. Do you know other channels from overlanders who travel with this conversion, except Mr. Saint Pierre White? I’ll be happy to investigate more before making a costly decision. Thanks and congrats for all your work.

Honestly I think with the amount that have been made the small issues have been ironed out. I’d find other people who have them and send them a message.

Is there enough head space to sit inside and have the roof down and closed, during bad weather for example ?

No, but you’d have it up in bad weather. We have never needed to close it during bad weather, not even close.

I would rather not state specifics on other companies in public forums, I don’t think that’s fair. More than happy to answer questions if you contact via email or an Instagram message 👍🏼

I don’t think a company can charge premium ( probably THE highest price ) on the market that’s yet to be proven , someone who isn’t going to get as much help or sponsorship would be very disappointed if they paid $20,000 and it developed leaks or cracks within just 3 months .
@OverlandTravellers
@OverlandTravellers 8 месяцев назад
Yeah but it was my fault, so I don’t think you can blame the conversion. Also they start at 15k which is the same as the other conversions.
@jayd3931

The difference is, this is made in Australia, and you can go right to the source instead of trying to get someone in South Africa to get back to you and then send parts. Most brands have occasional issues with leaking. One in particular is known for it. How a company responds is the proof and these guys have both serviced the owners, and made necessary changes in a timely fashion.
