Well... I'll admit that some are, but not all. Here's a list of sit-coms which have characters who are (mostly) quite charming, if eccentric: Last of the Summer Wine Open All Hours Man About the House Dad's Army Only Fools and Horses One Foot in the Grave Terry and June Fresh Fields French Fields May to December Bird Watching Father Dear Father George and Mildred Please Sir No Job For a Lady Satellite City Hitch-hikers' Guide to the Galaxy Now, if some of the characters in these sit-coms do have some 'less than charming' traits, I think it's because comedy deals very much with human foibles and follies in order to help us laugh at ourselves when we recognize similar traits in ourselves. So, don't expect all the characters to be suave, handsome and debonair... one must learn to take their personalities as a whole and accept their foibles as part of their charm. Hope this helps!
