I have used this lavender spike oil in place of my odorless mineral spirits. It’s a fair substitute. I only use a few drops at a time but the smell is very strong in my opinion and I still think one would need some ventilation. It made me somewhat lightheaded, so be warned if you are prone to headaches

Consider getting a cleaning tank or thinner cups - these can help with the smell - I have a video coming up that might help you. Stay tuned

Hullo Sir, I have used the brush cleaner and I was so impressed with the cleaning power! I have even purchased their sample set of all of their products. I have NOT been able to make the time to try them out! I hope you are able to continue this exploration of products that make oil painting more friendly! I have even purchased water soluble oil paints to escape the toxic environment that turpentine and even “odorless” mineral spirits create! I have not seen any of the sample sets reviewed by artists here on RU-vid, well no reviews by anyone not selling it! I am hopeful that you will be able to give your subscribers and lookie- loos a review we can trust on the Chelsea Lavender sample set! Thank you.

i would like to know the difference between Chelsea Classical studios lavender spike oil essence and Spike Lavender essential oil from the health food store.....Is it the same thing?
@WildCreates
@WildCreates 5 месяцев назад
We will have to research it - My first guess would be how refined it is for its purpose.

Hey wild looking for some help if i have a unfinished wet on wet oil painting what do i do to go back to it to finish it off would i wait until its dry and add a layer of liquid clear to get it wet again thanks
@WildCreates
@WildCreates 5 месяцев назад
You can 100% do that or even more LW - depends on what you are doing with the painting. They only advice I would give is work inn smaller sections. This way you can spend more time blending.

Hey Wild! When you clean the 1-inch or 2-inch brushes with Chelsea lavender spike oil, were you able to get your brushes dry without letting them set overnight? If I'm using them during a painting session and wash them to transition from dark colors to light, I feel like I don't get the brush as dry as I do with Gamsol. Have you noticed this?
@WildCreates
@WildCreates 5 месяцев назад
That's because its not a turp and do to the evaporation rate ( its slower ) - You have to really have to dab them dry on a towel. A lot of artist prefer their brushes stay "wet". This is actually way better for the bristles (keeps them strong). You will see some huge artists use spike oil for this very reason. I think Clive5Art talks about it here on YT... check it out :)

Nice one thanx didn't know the product :) Worth checking citrus thinner (haven't tried but seems very good) or using linseed oil for cleaning, and after with water and soap. I know ross brushes says not to use water but in general it works good for all my brushes also on bristle brushes. the soap i use is old school oil based soap maybe that why it works good.
@WildCreates
@WildCreates 5 месяцев назад
You can use water - just make sure you condition the brush too and everything will be all good :)

@@WildCreates Hi Wild, usually I get this products in two art shops in Rome (Italy): Vertecchi and Poggi, because I found only Vertecchi brand on Amazon, but in this case it's Better the price in the art shop. These art shops have out own web site, but I don't know if it's possibile to buy products out of Italy, I'll check it

Website says - "IRICLEAN VEGETAL SOLVENT Iriclean (art. IC900) is a vegetal and ecological solvent, non-volatile, not toxic, biodegradable. Let you achieve an accurate cleaning of oil colours, such as paintbrushes, slices, painting boards, and so on. Used as a diluent does not change the oil tonalities of colour, but it can slow down the drying time." So I guess it's sold through the distributor vertecchi as a store?

@@jeremiahembs5343 yes, Vertecchi art store can send you this product

I usually use Galkyd Lite with transparent paint for glazes before painting with opaques. Can I use lavender spike oil for glazes in the same way?
@WildCreates
@WildCreates 5 месяцев назад
You could, you will want to test first as I think Galkyd Lite will retain brush strokes more and dry faster compared to this.
