So my band is covering this song and as the drummer let me tell you, what a handful! Such a good drum part, this guy was super underrated man. Between the 16th ghost notes on the kick pedal and the constant time signature changes with 4/4 5/4 & 7/4 as well, highly criminally underrated drum song
Yeah man this is such a great drummer song on so many levels! This isolation really sheds more light on Michael’s chops! Always loved Cook with Fire too! He should of got picked up by another band after Heart.
I can tell you THIS GUY appreciates Micheal DeRosier's playing!!!! Ever since the songs were first released he shone like Diamond. He is still playing, too!!! He left Heart just before it went totally commercial (mid 1980s) but he became the in-demand drummer for Richard Marx, and many others. Humble guy, too!!!!!
as a drummer when you hear this - you just just admire and you just smile - sadly Michael Derosier never seemed to get much recognition - this is one sick shuffle - the dude is talented without doubt and this song tends to focus on the vocal and guitarist but the drums are what holds it all together and just drives it down the lane - without this drumming this song falls flat - damn impressive and that kick bass is doing yeoman duty - some sick fills too
@@eduardogabriel8414 one of. John had 3 kit's. He only used The Vistalite Acrylic live. The first kit he had In the early Zeppelin day's was a Slingerland, Then Carmine got him the Ludwig deal. Then he went to the green sparkle Maple kit for recording's.
@@addrumsadamgathercole5875 that’s not true, he used a Maple Ludwig kit live early on and used the Green sparkle live too at some points. Yes, he’s known for mainly using the Acrylic kit in live scenarios but there was even a few shows where he used a double bass drum set up.
I think it's also the reverb unit. It's well known that Ann and Nancy are big led Zeppelin fans, so I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the band is too and used those records as a template for the sound they wanted.
That's what happens when you have two gorgeous women in the band with you lol. But forreal, this song wouldn't have the same intensity without the drums.
I’ve always said this was one of the criminally underrated drum performances in rock, and these stems prove it. What power, feel, and groove. Amazing stuff.
You can see the Bonhan influence here Soo goddamn much in the feel, the drums used, the tunings the whole 9 yards and in this track it worked so well and wasn't even really stealing the show.. great track.
Probably the song being played by the highest number of air drummers of all time. I know I've been doing (attempting) the fills on my steering wheel for over 40 years. The song just never, ever gets old.
I've been listening to this song for 30 years and have always admired Derosier's playing in it but I never listened to the isolated drum track before. Whoa! This guy was a beast. Loads of feel behind that driving tempo. Very impressive. The compound time sounds extra cool in the isolated track too.
when I first heard this, in the late 70s, we didn’t have ‘isolated drum tracks’ on the internet. Amazing. I realised he was a good drummer, but not this good.
I’ve always loved this song and drum track but hearing it isolated omfg that drummer is fucking amazing! One of the best sounding snares, solid time and a greasy rock groove!! So underrated!!! Thank you for posting this!
that snare is AMAZING...POP...one of THE greatest drum tracks ever...he is doing so much with such subtly...his hat work is excellent...nobody covers this track like this even Michael himself in his band Heart by Heart all these years later...this is EPIC
I've seen a lot of drum covers on YT of this song, but nobody can really nail the swing here...the bass drum triplets and the sloshy but somehow tight hihat work. Plus his drums sound amazing!
I love the isolated drum tracks! These would have made learning my parts so much easier back in the 90s. I wonder now how close I was on some of those tunes...🤔
This is great. All the drum machines don't have beats like these. You forget the song it belongs to and jam what you want to it. I've jammed with Bonham and Alex Van Halen, Dave Holland and Travis Scott etc. Wish yt was around when I was starting to learn bass
Derosier is a great drummer. Heavily influenced by Bonham. His setup was just like Bonhams and sometimes he even wore that white hat like JB did. Ian Paice wore that same hat
The single influence was bonham.....remember the huge love and need to mirror that drum vibe the sisters wanted. Same size kit and toms.... The high-hat is more mid range and the cymbals had only a hint of that bonham thing in that the genius to recording bonham's cymbals were the big WHOOSH and long Cascade. Total vibe. Lol
PS Another drummer who had a similar style and original choice for Bonham’s drum stool was BJ Wilson and deserves some recognition at some point on this channel.
I tried out my new "Barracuda" drinking game. I did a shot every time a comment used the word "underrated." No lie, I was wasted nine comments in. No - thank you!
Does the mogg file separate all the drums...such as a stem with just the snare, bass drum, toms, etc.? Super thanks and hope to hear from you soon. I miss hearing Michael DeRosier so very much...
Some have called this drum performance a direct rip off of Achilles Last Stand. I clearly see what they mean. Bonham had every drummer out there beat in spades. He’d been there and done that. Mike I’m sure knows that but…this song begged for this type of feel. Sometimes the song itself calls for everything else and so in the end, we have Barracuda. The lyrical content is genius too. Ann’s bashing of chauvinism. Just brilliant. I just learned (stupid me) that Steve and Mike are out there with Heart by Heart. I’ve watched a few clips. Unbelievably awesome. We’re getting the correct tempos and bass sounds/feel of these incredible songs. Zeppelin has spawned many, many bands but I’m sure Robert and Jimmy actually liked what Heart were trying to and ultimately did accomplish.
I’ve listened to both this and the iso track from Achilles Last Stand and I gotta say this is better. Bonham was so drug addled by the end he phoned it in on a lot of tracks.
Bonham was "from what I've read" always Sober in the studio!!! He was great on all Recordings!!! Drugged??? He drank heavily & that did him in!!! Nobody can duplicate Bonzo!!! Not even himself!!! All Groove & Feel !!!!
mmmmm.....I skeptical of this. I do not think this is Derosier's recording. I know this song inside and out, especially the fantastic drums. Anybody agree?
