Hello, I'm from Kerala, south India, heart shaped ferns grow a lot naturally here, they mostly grow in between mosses and on large trees, thanks for the information, I planted a tiny one on my desk

That’s so cool to hear that they grow locally by you! I always seem to think the plants that grow by other people are the coolest! Good luck with this guy in your home!

I guess no one knows you can easily take leaf cuttings from these. They do the piggyback plant trick and are very reliable to root and grow as long as you pick the right leaf. It’ll have a green speck where the leaf and stem join together, that’s the baby clone, snip off that leaf and use the little wiry stem to push into the ground, a new fern should emerge in like 3 weeks.

I saw like 3 of these at my local plant store, had no clue how to take care of it because I too tend to run from ferns lol, but fell in love with it for the same reasons you mentioned. Wonderful video, thanks so much :)

I absolutely love the heart leaf fern and I have all of mine in closed terrariums because I know they crave humidity so much. Because of this, they grow well for me and I never grow them any other way.

I LOVE ❤️ these. I had a couple of occasions when I let mine completely dry out. The leaves curled and some browned. I was about to throw it out, but decided to water it thoroughly and see ….. It came back - many of the leaves unrolled and the leaves that didn’t and stayed brown I cut off. They are resilient.

I bought one almost one month ago but I didn't know the name at the time, so I went on caring for it like my other blue fern and in a week or so most of the leaves wrinkled up (I didn't cut them yet because they are still green)... I manage to save a few of them, but I'm afraid it won't last long... Do you think that misting it every now and then would help? (I leave in the northern hemisphere, with cold and humid winters and hot and dry summers)
@angelhoegarden
@angelhoegarden 2 года назад
I have mine after repotting, facing a north bright indirect window. Because humidity is low, i have placed a large glass over it like glass dome. I see a lot new growth but in general leaves became very thin and not leather-like as it should. The old leaves are getting either brown or yellowing tips. What's wrong??

the leaves in my fern are dried and yellow on its tips, could it be because it needs more light? i do water it regularly and make sure it's always moist but not wet :(
@LeafMeAlonePlants
@LeafMeAlonePlants 3 года назад
Hey Sofia, Its always a little hard to say without seeing a plant in person, However it defiantly could be that it isnt getting enough light. A couple of other things Im thinking it could be, if you recently fertilized it might have gotten hit a little hard. Or if this is a new plant, I also find sometimes when I bring a plant home it throws a little temper tantrum and can turn colors sometimes. I hope this guy improves for you!!!😥🥰

I've had two and try as I may, they didn't survive. I car believe yours is thriving in such low humidity. I'm going to buy another one and put it in the bathroom

I was surprised too usually I really struggle with Ferns. If I am struggling with a plant one strategy that has worked for me (which I know some people hate) is to completely cut it back and the new growth tends to be hardier for low humidity conditions

Hiiii!! Quick question!!! Does anyone know why it sometiemes get dark brown/black spots??? I’m not sure if it’s from misting too often and getting the leave wet or from sunburn’nn
@LeafMeAlonePlants
@LeafMeAlonePlants 3 года назад
Hey Juliay great question it can be hard to say for sure but the first thing that comes to mind is little mold spots especially with these having little downy hairs on them they can take a while to dry after misting and they can start to have issues if that sounds like it might be the issue I have treated plants with neem oil ad it helps clear things up!

Welcome to the wonderful world of plants. I like mine in a standard potting mix, however, if you are looking to increase your water retention you can also add some peat moss or coir. Additionally, if you have room to upsize putting it in a sized up pot should help as well. I hope this helps you in the right direction! 🥰🌿
