Heart rate training and MAF running can be some of the most rewarding and some of the most frustrating forms of training. It can be very frustrating to try to keep your HR in a target zone, but feel like no matter what you do it just doesn't work. The benefits of heart rate training are that it helps to improve your aerobic capacity and develop that ability to run longer without getting tired. So it is worth looking at some of these training considerations to ensure that you are getting everything you can out of heart rate training.

Thank you, big thumb up, I'm new in MAF running, certainly taks time to get HR low, caffeine & breathing are very important.

Six weeks into MAF and am really happy with the results. Week 1 average pace - 15:40/mi. Week 6 average pace - 13:52/mi. Target heart rate 130-140 BPM.

Super helpful, bro, thank you! Just wondering; do you feel like music makes a difference? On the one hand, I could see upbeat music potentially raising HR. But on the other hand, if you enjoy the music enough, it might be a distraction that takes awareness away from the exertion...? I’d be curious on your thoughts. Thanks for awesome content :)

I think music is interesting. If you already know the songs, and it is just for enjoyment then it doesn’t seem to change HR much for me. It is when we are trying to comprehend something new that I find it takes more mental energy. Awesome question!

Very helpful. I am 36 yrs and used to run 10km in around 50 minutes with avg. HR - 190 in starting of the year. after a gap of 2 months (due to COVID lockdown) I started with MAF. First week - 7 km run 5 days of a week (35KM in a week) with Avg. pace of 9- 9.10min/KM. I have to jog/walk a lot. avg HR-146 Second week - 8 km run 5 days of a week (40KM in a week) with Avg. pace of 8- 8.30min/KM. avg HR-144 running - walking - running around 50 KM in a week for last 6 weeks 6th week - 10 KM run 5 days of a week (50KM in a week) Avg. Pace of 7:30 - 7:45 min/KM. but still have to walk around 40-60 meter after every 120-140 Meter run. Avg HR - 141-142. though my runs are super easy. running when HR 135 to 147 -- walking till HR back to 135 Temp around 37-39 degree Celsius. Very hot and humid in Delhi, India Am I doing something wrong here or is it normal? how long will it take me to run continuously without have to walk in between. I am mentally ready to do this for 6-8 weeks more if it will work(seems working for others). Just want to know if I am doing/following the MAF method correctly or need to change anything to get the results. please suggest

It takes time for the body to adapt to this type of training. And with the heat it will probably take longer

Can lack of sleep before the training also be a problem?
