225stony yeah, you are partly right. The first part is true, but I was wrong about the second part. It is only true during the notice period when you have been dismissed from you job (Not sure about terminology here).

The main difference is severance time. There are reasons to fire an employee in EU countries (such as Sweden) that qualify as immediate termination. But immediate termination without proper cause warrants a severance time or severance pay minimum requirement based on seniority. For example I've had my current job for 3 years. If I were to be fired I'd receive 3 months severance pay or be entitled (depending on employers choice) to have a three months severance time in which I am still employed at full salary but have the right to payed time off to go job hunting. The point isn't making it impossible to fire someone. The point is to make it very difficult to have someone unemployed and in financial trouble simply because of an employers whim.

It used to be very popular for games. Half-Life is C++, for example. I think it might still be used for big, high-performance games. But for anything where you're not really pushing graphics or CPU, pretty much any other language is fine. Especially with things like Unity, which make it much easier to actually make games. The tradeoff is performance, but in many many cases that's a perfectly acceptable tradeoff to take. I work as a C++ programmer, and we do software to do with simulating car crashes and metal forming. The user might have millions of 3d objects in their data, so we need performance. But most commercial stuff doesn't really need performance, because most computers these days are good enough for the application to not need to be super efficient. Web-based seems pretty sensible for most applications tbh.

I think you're right about no one being wrong, but definitely the sensibility of "friction" and how to deal with it. Some people cause a lot of friction in their own lives.
