just before the fourth goal, you can hear the hearts fans singing "we'll support you ever more". I was at that game and I can tell you there were next to NO jamboes in the ground 60-odd minutes later. In fact Tynecastle had filled up with green and white - and because it was so historic the highlights were shown on the telly before dinner - what a great day that was!
Jimmy O’Rourke - what a player, and what a team. Even at school we knew Jimmy was something special. PE was great fun with Jimmy and Davey Hogg running rings around the rest of us in 5-a-side football. 👏👏👏
What a team...I was just a wee laddie when I was taken to see Turnbull's great team in the early 70's by my dad. I was hooked forever. This is what Hibs were all about and is the reason I will be a Hibee forever. There will never be any other club for me.
Hey, I met Hibernian because Irvine Welsh's books, since then i like them and sometimes watch their games on internet (are hard to find), when I read in Skagboys about the 7-0 I thought it was just fiction but holy shit it´s true! So long live Hibees, Renton, Spud, Sickboy, Franco and Welsh. Greetings from Bogotá, Colombia and from my local team Independiente Santafe! I would love to visit Easter Road in person and not just in the fucking google earth...
Agree. They were a great team and were unlucky not to have won at least one league championship. There was a 5/6 year period with both Hibs and Aberdeen regularly threatening to win trophies, but usually going to the Glasgow clubs. The fact that the Hibs line up of this era springs readily to mind shows what a force they were.
What a team Hibs had back then, and an absolutely awesome strip into the bargain. @ Peter Tod, there is most definitely NOT a case for saying that they where better than the great Celtic side of the era. I would say the fact that Celtic won nine league titles in a row would indicate to most sane people who the best team in Scottish football were.Hibs were a tremendous team, no doubt about it, they were just unlucky they faced an even better Celtic side.
Stanton effortlessly gliding through the hearts midfield and wee Jimmy poaching his goal... 25th of the season in Jan!! Amazing team... cropleys volley !
Now that was a football team... I was taken to see Hibs for the first time in 1971 just before this team came together. Needless to say I was hooked on the Hibees forever
...very fond memories of Alex Cropley at Aston Villa; he meshed in beautifully with our midfield engine room, Cowans, Mortimer and Des Bremner, also ex-hibs. For a second time in his career, he suffered a broken leg from an absolutely brutal, murderous foul by Ally Brown and a nasty, bashing West Brom. in 1977. You could hear the crack all round Villa Park that day.
..absolute shocking horror show here from Hearts no. 5, Anderson; one blunder after another; failing to challenge on headers and tackles and clearances; died on his backside. embarrassing.
I stand corrected, it was released in 1988 and then re- released in 2001, so you were right there, but the rest of the pish on your last post was bollocks. Im not from Ireland and Im not a proclaimers fan, Edinburgh council wastes that much dosh, I would be surprised if there was any monet left to educate Hearts fans. HFC one of the best run clubs in Scotland, and you know as well as I do that Vlad will turn tynie into flats or a Tescos. Admit it , you might not have a club in 2 years. LMFAO.
I bled tears with the Hearts fans when they lost the title, we remember when. But I loved this Hibs team. Remember crying on the bus coming back from Dumbarton v somebody, hearing they'd lost 3 0 to Hudjuk Split. Nae f'ckin brains, sweet some unfit players. A turncoat (P Thistle) Ranger. Respects to Yous East coast bastards, Aussie usage.
Hibs had a great team in the early to mid 70s. Should have won more silverware than they did. Also played Leeds at the peak of their powers in the UEFA Cup and gave them a game, only losing out on pens after two 0-0 draws. It's a mystery how this team only won 1 major trophy in this decade. Also should have won the Cup in '79 - very unlucky from what I recall.
Unlucky? It all depends if you class a cheating ref, denying Hubs a last minute penalty that would have won the cup, unlucky. Up here, refs who cheated in favour of Rangers wasn't unlucky, it was the norm.
Am a Celtic fan I seen hibs beat celtic in 2 dryborugh cup finals 5 3 and 1 0 and a league cup final 2 1 in the early 70s I also seen celtic win 6 2 in the scottish cup final in 69 6 1 in the scottish cup final in 72 and 6 3 in the league cup final in 74 75 joe Harper got a hatrick for hibs and still lost
Yes, we're not great this year, but we nearly beat Liverpool with 13/18 of the squad from our youth academy. We dominate games but can't score because we don't have a decent striker.
Just update us when you can higher score than than? Just remember try doing that in a Final. Keep calm, We will go to fester road next year in the cup and still knock you out anyway. We got the 1-5 result in the Cup Final. And updated to wipe out outdated scorelines left in the past ;-)
Pffft...class. He's got a good header but he's as slow as a week in the jail and he's not that fit. And McGlynn plays Patterson upfront, Sutton is always on the bench.
Their hearts are broken, their hearts are broken Borrow, borrow, borrow, borrow Rod would nae dae it, they got relegated You played it, we humped yiz, two goals if rudi While were alive, we'll remind you of five Heart of mid....lothian While were on our feet, another kick in your teeth We thank you for your work, and rods work, yer nae worth Get it up yiz hobbits
For a few hours... you're not top any more. You'll probably finish above us since we've lost all our best players and signed no one bar Stevenson. If you don't after you're signings and start to the season, it will be an embarrassment.
how can you say that? John Sutton is hearts class! Anyway your club will die soon as the 40m debts players not getting payed on time blah blah blah rip hearts1874-201?
+Ability Rubber - Leader Very weak comebacks with the wee team shite, had the chance to stop us but 2-0 and you fucked it up haha. How did it feel that Jason Cummings Hearts born and bred, scored against you at Tynecastle, whilst patting the Hibs badge. You'll be shitting yourself if you's meet us in the cup again.
Erm mate naebody cares aboot 5-1 anymare we are the better team we may no play well but we've beat you the last 5 times we've played you and you havney wont 1 of the last 5 derbys so keep on singing 5-1 in the last 5 derby's you havney won 1 ayeeep!
