I need to go for a lie down after working all day to get this video up for you guys!! Love you all and I'm so excited to continue our Heartstopper Journey together!! (if you notice any editing mistakes, blame Netflix for waking me up so damn early!)
Yayyyy I am trying to restrain myself from spoilers because I'm waiting to watch with all of my family and so tell me is mental health and Charlie's eatting disorder and An overprotective Tori scene when Charlie relapse like in Solitaire does that happen try to answer without toooo much spoilers ❤
This season is darker than season 1 (and season 3 will be way darker even) but the thing about Heartstopper is that it never dwells too much in the misery, there's always so much joy & love intermingled with the sadness, and even in the darkest moments you know they'll be ok in the end because they have each other. And that's what I love about Heartstopper: its ability to explore really serious & dark topics like discrimination, abusive relationships, mental health... in a very effective & appropriate way & without sugarcoating anything while still remaining by far the most abundant with sheer queer joy & love show I've ever watched, which is sooooo important & groundbreaking, especially for a teen show!
@@brandynkilpatrick by the end of season 2 the plot surrounding Nick's growing concern for Charlie's mental health isn't resolved at all (though their conversation at the end of the last episode is a very touching way of giving it a bit of closure for now). You can expect that to be explored deeper in season 3.
See I totally agree that his parents exaggerated a bit with the restrictions they placed on Charlie, but he just had to do his essay!!! I spent half the episode yelling at the screen "DO YOUR ESSAY!!!" finishing his essay would have saved him from getting grounded 😭😭😭 i want him happy but also he's literally starting to fail his classes, he needs balance
me too tbh the entire time i was just like „DO YOUR HISTORY ESSAY WHAT ARE YOU DOING“ then again, im currently procrastinating 4 essays, so i cant really talk lol
To be honest, that's just good old fashioned parenting. If your grades are suffering, you're spending too much time being social. The sleepover rule is in effect when you're living at home. This is why we move out asap.
Same! I found myself really annoyed with Charlie's behaviour because he just stopped doing homework and going to class. All he had to do was 1 essay and he does literally everything else. This is what we get being adults watching this show lol
@@hollywoodguy70not to be "too real" here, but being too social is not always the reason for slipping behind in grades. A lot of teens slip behind due to mental illness etc and removing their support system will only make it worse. Teens deserve to be communicated with
TW: sexual assault I think the best way Nick could have warned Imogen about Ben is "He sexually assaulted a friend of mine. The victim would like to remain nameless"
@@dysmissme7343 he wouldn't even have to say it was a friend of his, he could have just said he walked in on Ben trying to force himself on someone and kept it vague
I ADORE Imogen. Your reactions to her make me so ridiculously happy. She's so cute and YES, EXACTLY, she's got such a good heart and good intentions but she struggles a bit. She'll get there! We love our ally(?)
The end of episode 1 when Charlie is talking about how he wants everything to be perfect for Nick and for him not to go through the things he went through and the camera pans to Nick just walking and smiling DESTROYED me
Liam, you should have spliced David’s convo with Charlie (19:25) starting a few seconds earlier: as he pops up in the room Nellie GROWLS at him. Nellie is Nick and Charlie’s best ally !!
@@lorenzojevaz2644 not yet. I think it’s implied more recently in the comics (unless I’ve entirely misread what happened) and it’s stated to’ve happened in Nick & Charlie (set 2 years in the future, when Nick’s in year 13) but, at this point in the Netflix series, Charlie’s got some body issues to work through first.
I binged season 2 at 1 in the morning, and I regret nothing. I've read the graphic novels, and I still freaked out! I nearly cried almost every episode.
@ikhlas828 I started at 1:30 and finished at like 7. I was so awake that I never went to bed. I just kept rolling with the day. I really do need to sleep now though. It's midnight, and for some reason, I'm still awake.
My favorite definition of Art is that it is, "Love made public". Heartstopper is the most joyous of art and I'm so grateful Alice Oseman shared theirs with the world.
I agree completely with you. A thing maybe you didn't notice - On episode 2 we've got the first indication for Charlie's eating disorder (when he's arguing with his parents and first Nicks question about the dinner). Love your reaction!
In defense of Imogen she had no idea what happened between Charlie, Nick, and Ben. If she did then maybe she would not be with him. The first two episodes are great (the entire season is AMAZING) and I love how all characters have been developing from season 1
When Charlie said in season 1 that his parents didn't "like animals," it was a clue as to what bastards they'd be in season 2. Kit Connor's acting is even better. He seems to have matured.
Yeah, Kit buffed up a bit compared to season 1. But that's actually partially due to quite a sad reason - in the comics Nick was kind of buff(?) from the beginning, and after the first season there were some "fans" that were basically bullying him online about how he isn't as muscular. So I do like how they look in this season, but it feels shit getting small glimpses of the pressure some horrible people place on the actors.
I think the real reason Nick can't tell Imogen about Ben isn't that Ben would be outed (I believe sexual assault voids that privilege), but that Charlie would be stigmatized for being a victim. That's why abusers get away with so much: their victims often don't want to be exposed any more than they do.
"Ben sexually assaulted one of my friends. They wish to remain anonymous. Be careful if you insist on dating him" No one's outed. And he still warns her. Done.
Charlie's relationship with his mother reflects a lot how my mother parented. I don't live or speak with my mother currently, thankfully... But reading the interactions happening in the comics and then seeing them play out in real life is... painfully familiar. Though, my mother was a little bit more detached and dismissive... My own mother was more emotionally abusive than Charlie's is... Charlie's mother is a little bit more actively connected in his life but his mother's personality, which you will see more of in this season and next season, is very familiar to me. It honestly warms my heart that you're speaking out about how she parents and how it will NOT bring about the behaviour that she is wanting it to... Cuz you're totally right. That's what the psychology is also saying... His mother has an authoritarian parenting style... And it's NOT the best one to have... Authoritative is usually better for creating healthy emotional attachments and emotional regulation with your children and they grow into much more stable adults. But you're right about authoritarian usually it does cause resentment and anger, from my experience as well. Lol
Let august 3rd be the international day of crying, cuz the amount of tears i'm shedding with this season is OUT OF THIS WORLD! So happy you're reacting to it so early, love youuu♥
I think Charlie's parent's hearts are in the right place. It's completely understandable for them to be like you had yo boo, in yo room, with the door closed?!!? Then the slipping grades are not a sign of a positive influence, even though we as the audience know Nick is amazing!! At the core of Charlie's parent's decisions is care and protection, so they never bother me.
That’s what I thought lol. Like I’m not the biggest fan of Charlie’s parents (I’ve never watched the show completely [I watch it through reactions lol. I’m scared that my parents would see] but in the comics it seemed like they tried to be TOO much of parents like when his mom walked into his room to say that they don’t have shut doors in their house but didn’t even know nick was there (it is understandable if you knew he was there bc even if you weren’t going to do anything your parents don’t know that) and there just seemed to be a lot of unnecessary rules tbh
THAT WAS FAST!!!! i loved it!! i’ve watched it all already can’t wait to see your reaction to the rest of it! Im pretty sure you’re going to cry your eyes out a lot going through it
Imogen really hurt her own feelings there 😂... She had convinced herself that Nick didn't like her because he didn't like girls then when he said he was bi she was like "oh, so... It was just me..."
I’m having a Heartstopper watch party with my older sister and her friend. We watched the first 3 episodes tonight. I’m really enjoying it, but I also got a lot of anxiety from it. My notes from the season so far are, “Nick and Charlie, study for the love of god, especially Mr. Charlie sneaking out, doing your essay last minute, Spring! Now I have to wait for tomorrow to continue the watch party. I’ll be back to watch your reaction’s when I finish watching.
I finished the season myself today and the first thing I did was zoom off to YT to find all my favourite reactors to see if any of them had videos out yet and HERE WE ARE!! God this season was SO GOOD. This season gets darker than the first, but the importance of Heartstopper is that it never loses its positive message. It doesn't dive into anything depressing, it has moments, but the show itself is always about those around you that you love and how you cope and overcome those things, more than it being about the "drama" of those things with no upsides.
I'm telling every straight person I know to watch Heartstopper. That's how important the series is. And Netflix measures ratings by hours watched, so just run the season over and over. Niall, we are happy to see you, even early in the damn morning. lol
the amount of queer joy i felt bingeing the new season!!! i will say i cried quite a bit, and my emotions were quite ramped up considering i watched since it dropped at 12 am to 5 in the morning 😭 also imogen is so adorable i love her 😭
11/10 everything you said about Charlie's parents and on parenting! Also "Just be nice it's not hard to be nice." I'm adopting this. I want this as a meme. And a GIF. Yeah.
at the park scene was so beautiful and so romantic and the song was perfect for this scene and rainbows around char looking at the photoes was so magical and there passion i cryed in this scene and to see how happy they are together its so amazing scene just love it
As someone who binged watched this entire season... you're going to absolutely love it! There will be tears and you will need tissues... imo it's even better than the first season. It really fleshes out the characters and al of them are just lovely and need to be protected at all costs.
Ohhhhh I freaking love Imogen and through the whole season I began to love her more. She's a queen. Tori, also❤ yesterday was a rollercoaster. Screaming, laughing, crying... I went through all emotions and I'm still processing🫠
I'm so confused by the "Imogen token ally" agenda. because they're completely deleting the fact that Tao is also straight, which is actually very important, especially since his relationship with Elle. Because it stops being repeated (like it was in S1) the second he reciprocates Elle's feelings. As if because she's trans and he likes her, he can't be straight. Which is false. Tao is still a straight guy, because Elle is a girl. Implying that he's queer because he's in dating Elle is transphobic. The relationship is queer in the same way a relationship between two people of opposite genders where one is bi/pan or ace is queer. But Tao isn't queer, and that's very important in portraying Elle respectfully.
Naw I am with the parents. They weren't trying to keep them apart forever. Charlie needed to get his grades up. There could have been a deeper convo that I agree with
The immediate way a knew it was something off with "Imogen crush", fr guys I was watching with my bf and whe she said she's was into someone I was " IMAGINEEEEEEEE IF IT'S BEN OR HARRY, THAT'LL BE A DISASTER" I hated be right.
Charlie's parents have been through a lot, so I get where their overprotectiveness comes from. And in fact at this point of the story we viewers do not yet realize how much this 'a lot' has been.
My only issue with this season is they did DIRTY TO OUT GIRL IMOGEN! I hope that for S3 she's a main cast and more with the main group! As you said theres somrthing truly special with her and thr actress is 100% killing the role. So i hope we see more cuz i felt we were fed but only crumbles
Great reaction as always Niall! It's interesting how most of your friends are queer / gay people, and for me at least 80% of my friends are straight, and my very close friend group are all straight and I'm the only gay. They have been there through all the hard stuff. I think probably it's because my close group of friends have been my friends since childhood. 😊
Wow Cristian, thanks so much for the tip! It's interesting to hear about different friend dynamics. As long as they love and support you, then that's all that matters! Sending you love my friend
There’s a RU-vid video where Kit doing workouts with a guy (I can’t remember his name), Kit mentioned one of the reasons he’s getting buffs because of toxic Heartstopper fans that complaining he don’t buffs enough as a rugby boy. So mad at those toxic fans.
Also those fans didn’t really read the comics because Nick is not super athletic/ripped like Kit has become either. They don’t seem to know that rugby doesn’t immediately mean huge muscles and shredded abs 😒
Hey girl! I’m so glad and fortunate to have found your page! I had to wait for my OWN binge on Heartstopper S2 before I got to watch yours! Keep it going HUNEY
