All this time I thought Heath died after he won a few awards prior to the Oscars, but I was one year off... Now I'm sad he didn't get to see the level of public appreciation for this movie...

The Greatest Actor ever . what a performances in The Dark Knight , Brokeback Mountain , Candy , Monsters Ball , 10 Things i Hate About You and in The Patriot . Heath as a Human Being and As an actor way ahead of his time . and still can't believe at just age of 28 he pulled off the performance of The Joker . Michael caine called Heath Ledger's performance as the joker in the dark knight as the Greatest Acting Performance of all time in the History of world Cinema and Matt Damon called him that He is the best actor he has ever work with .

Totally agree with you. Admittedly the film was probably more hyped and anticipated after he died, but every accolade and award and any praise he's gotten since, is for the incredible performance he gave, without any semblance of pity. Tragic death or not; one of the greatest performances in modern cinema.

Don't generalize, please people! Not all Christians believe the role of the Joker turned Heath to a dark place, and it's not fair to accuse everyone of a thing that just a few (most likely the loudest) say. I'm a Christian, and I don't believe it. Heath was a professional actor, and an extremely good one at that. Of course he was able to seperate his personal life from his work. Believing anything else would be a shame to his memory. RIP Heath.

Totally agree with you. I wasn't expecting much before i watched the movie, and i was really shocked by his amazing performance. he deserves the awards, and I think Dark Knight deserves more oscars, but I've heard that the academy never has much interest in an action movie. Don't know if that's true. But I think this Batman movie is not solely just action.

The death of Heath may have given it a little hype but it really was one of the best movies of the year and i wouldnt want to see the jokers character performed in any other way. If you still think it was just hype than explain how theyre going to top this sequel with the next addition to the series. and without Heath...

You're right about that. He will become a legendary villain. The first comic book character to ever win an oscar. My favorite villains of all time are Hannibal Lecture, Darth Vader, Anton(no country for old men), and The Joker.

It's quite moving that Goldie got so choked up reading Heath's name...I'm heartbroken over his death & I didn't even know him. I wish the camera would steer clear of Angelina Jolie's haughty face...it almost ruined this tender moment.

Agreed...insiders are saying that Ledger will win not only because his Joker turn was genius, but because the Academy should of given Heath the Oscar for Brokeback Mountain instead of Philip Seymour Hoffman for Capote. I still cannot believe PSH won, but that year was fucked up: Brokeback lost Best Picture to Crash(!!) even though BM Ang Lee won Best Director. Funny that Heath & PSH are up for Best Supporting Actor this year.

Some films originated on the stage and when adapted to film the characters are played by different actors. Some films are based on real people. Are saying that if an actor has the chance to base their performance on a person (fictional or not) or a character that has been portrayed before they don't deserve an award/nomination? Yeah, that was a really nice moment. Some people seem to think these are pity awards but I'm pretty sure he'd be getting the same amount of recognition if he were still alive. His Dark Knight performance was simply unforgettable.

Sympathy award?! Don't be ridiculous. Have you seen the film? Can you honestly tell me that his perforamance was not worthy of a Bafta? Or the oscar her recieved? Heath was an amazing actor and an inspirtation to everyone. He dedicated himself to his roles and was extremley versitile. He went from Brokeback Mountain to this film, shocking us all. No one thought he could pull off the Joker as well as he did. He deserved that oscar.

Jack Nicholson actually told Heath not to method act the Joker. He said there was no way in hell someone could method act the Joker and live. He actually tried it for Tim Burton's movie, but he noticed how crazy it was making him, so he said to Heath "DO NOT method act this character."

If I could only choose one performance of his to win the Oscar it would be Brokeback Mountain. I think his performance in that is incredibly under-rated despite even receiving an Oscar nom. If he won for that, there would be no one wondering if he actually deserved it or whether he won just because he died.

Action movie seldom comes with a great plot. But TDK does, with lots of climax and surprises, you can't take a rest between the scenes. I hate Batman's voice too! His voice makes me realize the importance of subtitles. If Heath is still alive, I wish there could be a movie talking about the life of the Joker ;)
