Heather Headley performing I Will Always Love you from 'The Bodyguard Musical' live at the 100th Royal Variety Performance 2012. More info: www.thebodyguardmusical.com/
I agree totally. I said the same thing. If Dolly had never did it, then this amazing song would have never exsited. So props to her for this song and Whitney, who took it to another level. Great work by two icons.
Yeah, and actually Dollys version is reallllllly good too....Whitneys version is just hard to top. And that's even with Dollys version being absolutely amazing
This woman sang on Broadway for 3 years. She's put out multiple hit records and toured the world. This is her touring the world in a stage play for "The Bodyguard". Why would you think she would be nervous?
I have to say it, I have heard Whitney Houston for many years singing this song as she did in the movie the bodyguard, but listening to heather Headly at this right moment blows my mind. she is out of this world, brilliant, authentic, original, definitely she is the best. i will always love Whitney but Heather Headly is ....................
She reminds me of Celine and Whitney. So unique and talented. Just discovered her after searching for a video of Andrea Bocelli singing Canto Della Terra live. Found a video where he sings the song with Heather and it blew me away.
I am glad that this woman's performance at the West End garnered rave reviews. :) She clearly deserves it. And I commend her for taking a role for which she is sure to be compared of the late Whitney Houston. Very brave taking on WH songs which she was able to give justice to... I'm sure Whitney's really proud of the project and Heather herself. :)
It's funny how people who probably have no musical training say someone is flat. As someone with lots of musical training, I will go on record saying she is NOT flat and this is a breathtaking performance. I'm seeing the show in 2 weeks and from this performance it will probably be the theatrical viewing performance of my year. I love Heather, seen her in both The Lion King and Aida, and followed her recording career. Folks, she's not portraying Whitney, she's portraying Rachel. Stop comparing.
+Raymond Sherbaum, then you missed this gloomy gus who was totally unamused! Great voice, and she deserves praise. This song is absolutely suited for her voice. However nobody (ok, maybe a few) should take on judy and I didnt enjoy her updated urban version of "over there rainbow"
+bearcub17055 I was not suggesting that anyone could improve on Judy's version by any stretch of the imagination! I was merely stating that for her particular version, she did a stellar job!
AWESOME! Puts her own thumbprint on the song while maintaining integrity of past performers. Don't compare....just listening and fall in love with this voice....POWERFUL!! See another example of Heathers power by watching "In My Mind."
What a voice and talent. I first saw Heather Headly in Aida on Broadway NY and once again in NY. Lucky I was. After That I have been following the talent she is. Unknown to some but a good Freemasons dance track titled 'In My Mind' is one of the contributions she has made.
Whitney was my favorite singer ever and I cried my heart out when she passed. Heather brought it all back with her amazing voice. I can't hear enough of her singing. Absolutely amazing!
The way Heather Headley covered a MASSIVELY iconic song sung by a LEGEND, and interpreted that same song so authentically and impeccably is INCREDIBLE. Very few artists possess the talent and ability to do that. Much respect!!! XOXOXO
That's one of the best vocal performances ever... any genre... any singer. As far as her sounding like whitney... there were *moments* of tribute but the performance was all Heather. It should be a master class.
to all you naysayers, let's remember that this is the BODYGUARD musical...she's not trying to mimic or copy Whitney Houston, she's playing the character from BODYGUARD...also, she is never gonna be Whitney...and furthermore, let's remember that Whitney didn't originate this song either - DOLLY DID...each person will give it their own spin and they ALL perform it beautifully in their own, artistic, way! :) END RANT! :)
Mark Conroy Dolly did a SMART choice giving it to Whitney because she owned that shit haha when people think of that song they don't think of no damn Dolly they think of Whitney f who wrote Whitney made that damn song lol and my girl Headly did beautiful with her vocals
You know what is more admirable? It is that in any moment she tried to impersonate Whitney. She could give her own interpretation. I have been following her since I have founded out her and Andrea Bocceli in a duet.
Perfect. Just sheer perfection. i loved her in Aida but I think she just outdid herself and raised the bar even higher. She is truly magnificent. Hope this production goes TO B'way and gets her a much deserved Tony
Amazing voice! Regardless of what other people say, the girl is talented. She may never be mainstream but hopefully she'll always have a successful career.
That was such an amazing job. Loved this performance, and she made it all her own. She definitely did not do what others did and try and sound like Whitney. She did what she should have, she sang it as herself, Ms. Heather Headley, glad this popped up as a suggestion for a video.
