In this benchtop video I go through the full design and build process (including lots of screw-ups) to modify the heater controls from my BMW Z3 as part of its electric car conversion. I replace the mechanical controls for the old heater valve with a potentiometer using CAD and 3D printed parts. In a future video, the potentiometer will be connected to an Arduino that will in turn control a Mitsubishi Outlander electric water heater.

Not sure how well it would have worked but some Plasticine may have given you the dimensions you were looking for. Nice work tho. I haven't given much thought to heating yet as still struggling with BMS and charging.

That's a really good idea. Should have thought of that!

If you took the mounting boss on the back off you'd have a flat surface with a hole in it. That should be easy to mount a regular pot with a long shaft that you could cut to length. Drill a small hole for the locating tab and you're done.

Maybe, but would still need something around the back to enclose it and snug it up against the original piece? This way it's at least very compact.

trim the clear plastic on the facia until it fits nicely.

👍 That's what I'm thinking. May only need a little hole for that protruding pin.

Hello. Thank you for the video. Your car didnt have the automatic climate control panel or it did and you switched to this manual panel as its easier?
@EVDIY
@EVDIY 2 года назад
It didn't have the automatic. Fairly base spec car apart from the electric hood.

@@EVDIY could you have made the automatic panel work ir is that too difficult? I'm wondering about that
@EVDIY

@@blackterminal Not sure - I've not had a play with one of those. I suspect it would be a lot more involved.
