Heating system sludge removal is key to getting a central heating system working better and more efficient.
Power flushes or system flushes like what I’m doing in the video removes the sludge, magnitite and debris from your heating system and allows it to work better and heat your house a lot better.
We put the Adey MagnaCleanse and the Thorough Flush units to the test back to back in the real world…. With great results.

I like the fact you show such a wide range of different plumbing scenarios. I’ve thought about investing in a power flush machine in the past but didn’t for the very reasons you mentioned about blowing off fittings with pressure too high etc and Murphy law would suggest it would be under a tiled floor or something. Great video thanks Mark. Very informative stuff.

Great second vid fella . What would be a great addition is to show the subscribers the airing cupboard & pipework configuration especially on an open vented system as most people know what the combi set out is like. Its harder to flush I found especially with a 3 port as they can be very restrictive when it's set to manually open. Something I also did was to cut in a gate valve on the cylinder return if possible if not on the flow so you can isolate the cylinder , that way you can flush that circuit a bit like a rad!! If that all makes sense . I used to find the open vent & cold feed connections by the pump were always problematic & most often partially blocked causing pumping over, resulting on boiler cycling pump failure etc. I appreciate the younger lads want to make everything a sealed system now & it is the way to go & easier. However as you know there's still shed loads of open vent systems out there. What you've done for that customer will bring her bills down & improve the efficiency no end. I am super Impressed with the thorough flush unit & a great benefit to have, i was shocked how much sludge it moved compared to the magna cleanse &, love the way you've lower the mains pressure, as open vent systems can with pipes emb3dded in solid floors can be exposed with too much pressure going through them. Something the young guys seem to forget until its too late!!!! I do like the 2 parter vids as it keeps you guessing what the outcome will be. Look forward to the next one up 👍

Very interesting video! Iv got a question though, if you’ve got say 1 bar going in, and its got to climb upstairs and to the last rad, would it be fair to say that by the time it gets there you’ve probably only got half a bar of pressure to push any sludge? I can’t help thinking a power flush is a better machine?

@MJTiffPlumbing
@MJTiffPlumbing Год назад
You need to work each radiator on a Magnacleanse flush or any flush….. You need to be making sure every rad has been flushed and is clean, this is where thermal imaging is great as you can see any cold spots etc

Hi Mark, great videos as always. I have just a couple of questions as I have both a Thoroughflush and a Magnacleanse like yourself. 1, In your honest opinion, do you think that if you'd have just introduced the cleaning chemicals a week before and then gone straight to the Thoroughflush on day one, that the result would have been any different ? It wasn't clear if you agitated the radiators on the Magnacleanse phase, did you? Cheers

Is it cost effective flushing? Depending on the age of the rads I suggest it's cheaper to replace rads and empty the whole system to get rid of crud. Spent £850 on total rad replacement which stopped the 3 port valve clogging up every 6 months. Better energy efficiency too with new rads. How much is a system flush like that?
@MJTiffPlumbing
@MJTiffPlumbing Год назад
Personally I would say a proper system flush is very good money spent….
@have-a-gorepairhero2760
@have-a-gorepairhero2760 Год назад
@M J Tiff Plumbing as a landlord who has paid for a flush several times and 6 months later the same corroding rads caused the same issue. I'm not saying its wrong but on older systems it's better to get rid of old rusty rads with new. New rads also work more efficiently so the saving is way better than a flush. I expect you tell your customers that as you're a plumbing legend 🙂
@MJTiffPlumbing
@MJTiffPlumbing Год назад
But if your filling new rads with nasty corroded sludged up water it’s going to cause the same issues, also that water and corrosion is going through the boiler/pump and valves….. its the age old thing of how far do you go. Think of it like this…. Changing your oil filter in your car and leaving old oil still in isn’t the best thing to do….🫣
@have-a-gorepairhero2760
@have-a-gorepairhero2760 Год назад
@M J Tiff Plumbing isn't sludge mostly in the rads at the bottom? Normally when taking off all the rads removes 90% of the water from the system so hopefully the inhibitor and filter will sort out the other 10% a flush is perfect for systems where they've been in place for approx 5yrs but those rads that are showing rust on the outside it's a waste of money imo. People will always go for the cheaper option then moan later it didn't work.

Yep people prefer different systems and do what they are happy with…👍🏼👌🏼 personally I don’t like the power flush systems as there is a lot more chance of blowing a fitting and flooding a house running that sort of L/Min and pressures……. Also they are huge units Chemicals and heat with the Magnacleanse then cold water flush with the ThoroughFlush👍🏼

Great video as usual. Why are your hands not covered in black crap. Whenever I do this I always end up with black stains on my hands even when using gloves.
