Great video! I am envious of the raid . I love the diversity and beauty of the boats. Also seems like a great bunch of guys to cruise with . Great job!!
Thanks mate , yes they are a great bunch of guys and the group is growing with different boats. Off again this weekend to Myall Lakes which is beautiful (when not crowded). I hope your winter is not too cold, cheers Paul
Thanks for sharing your sunshine and sailing with us. Cold and rainy today. My American 16 is protected under its tarp against the weather. Not likely to hit the water in the coming weeks.
@@SailingKateLouise No, Paul, mold hasn't been a problem. I leave the front and back of the tarp open somewhat for airing. We only get about 35 inches of rain during our rain season of Oct thru April/May, so we have many days of dry weather. I often can sail several days a month during our fall-winter months.
Thank you for another entertaining video Paul. I notice one of the comments below says that every time he watches one of your videos, he checks the boats for sale. I was in that category until a week ago when I bought one. So I hope to see you on a raid some time soon. Cheers until then.
Merry christmas Paul. And about christmas cake , my wife uses Appelton Estates , a great rum from Jamica. Her cake is delicious but I cry to see great booze going into a cake and not my glass. 😅 fair winds and little fire. Paul in Canada
Regarding the pot scourer - That put me in mind of an old western movie about a cattle drive. The cowboys were all back in camp for the night, and the chuck wagon cook was dishing out supper. One of the cowboys complained that his plate wasn't clean enough. The cook said "If they're clean enough to stop eating off of, then they're clean enough to start eating off of!"
Enjoy all your videos , you’ve inspired me and I’ve just picked up a Fairlite gull so i can start my own sailing adventures and happy birthday cheers Paul
Our first family boat was a Gull in Edinburgh Scotland. Used it for everything and had many great adventures. Very seaworthy in spite of my attempts................
Happy belated birthday! I'm depending on you to scratch my sailing itch while the weather is too awful here in SE England to get on the water, so thank you for the great video and I'm looking forward to the next one.
Hi thanks for watching and those kind words. In fact I've just got back from 3 days at Myall lakes and haven't had a shower yet as I'm downloading the footage...12 boats, very hot but good sailing....give me a few days. Have a great Christmas , cheers Paul
I really enjoyed that, great mix of sailing/general chat/boat building. The cooking was well up to standard, I am now considering a tomato in my next pot noodle ;)
Thanks Steve glad you enjoyed it. Supermarket premaid meals are a great start if you don't have much ice or a fridge and it's easy to jazz them up a bit. I'm going to try something a bit different in the next video should be out before Christmas...have a great one , cheers Paul
I have decided to build a dinghy. A Vivier Kernic. When my wife asks I will be blaming you and Rodger. 😂 I think it will take me 5 years. So book me for a raid in 2029. Love your videos.
Nice work again Paul and sorry I don’t think I gave you a verse of the birthday song. I think I was in the video but the guy was wearing a shirt so can’t have been me 😂 Enjoy Myall lake next week mate.
We just spent all of November cruising the lake in our trailer sailer and on our last day we were camped on the sand island and copped one of those late afternoon storms which ripped through our campsite destroying everything. luckily it was our last day. no mozzies or flies through November though. We also saw a huge Hammerhead shark and collided with it on our keel as we were sailing between Pulbah and Wolstoncroft.
Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas to Paul and all those "Out on the Water ." Yep, KFC. Most order a week in advance and pick up. The silly ones line up around the block. I just stick with my wife's delicious cooking. Great shots of the other boats, especially the Cygnet with the genakker flying! gary
Thanks mate yes we are blessed with good weather....most of the time, but around Christmas it does get pretty hot.Yesterday in Sydney it was in the mid 30's at 9pm that's too hot if you don't have air conditioning. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Hi Rob yes Steve's Ptarmigan has so much room , it will be a fantastic cruise boat and probably fast as well. Bring on Easter when it should be finished, cheers Paul
I'm hoping to get down to the Gippsland lakes just before the Paynesville Classic next year and persuade a few to join me , thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Hi Josh , yes the sailing was great KL has never been that fast...and in the breeze the heat was not too bad but when it dropped ......awful, cheers paul
You are getting better Paul. That looked like it was a hard night. Very noisy you should wear ear muffs and plugs maybe. That cake did look very good I must admit.
Hi Winston...well that's great, it's good to know I'm doing something positive for the community. Your boat is out there somewhere you've just got to find it, cheers Paul
Another great video 👍 Was the Jarcat sailing with you guys are did it just tag along ?? I have jarcat 5 MK11 designed by Ross Turner RIP. from Logan in Queensland. Built it about 24 years ago and currently being refurbished.
Hi Paul The flying boat photo is not a Catalina - it is a Dornier DO 24 - and these were operated at Rathmines from 1941 to 1944 in tandem with the Catalina’s I deal with that plane in my video which I should finish over the weekend. That plane and about 5 others like it ended up at Rathmines as the result of a twist of fate that saw the RAAF operating German aircraft during the war.
@@SailingKateLouiseAn easily made mistake - the extra engine is the give away. They were Dutch East Indies Air Force planes flown to Australia ahead of the Japanese advance through Indonesia. The only difference between them and the Luftwaffe planes was these had American Wright radial engines - the same as used in the Martin seaplanes the Dutch were also using, which also ended up in the RAAF. The Dutch and some Indonesian and Eurasian crews completed training at Rathmines and were then shipped to England via the USA to fight Germans. They left the planes behind and they were formally gifted to the RAAF. When the Australian crews turned up to fly them - they couldn’t - because all the controls, dials, gauges and the manuals were all written in German. Took a few weeks to sort out.
Not sure of the diameter about 10cms, I tried to clean it a couple of times but it always tarnishes after a few weeks and the second hand sticks so it's not really functional. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
paul u thank the better half 4 sailers to go sailing but i have watch about 30 of your video so i have not see your better half on any i take it dont that she does not enjoy sailing keep up the good videos cheers
No unfortunately the better half doesn't really like a boat without a head, it must be a female thing. Thanks for watching all those videos, you must be sick of me by now, cheers Paul
I know that you like your boat; however, you’re a seasoned, good sailor. I trust that you have a pretty good idea, among the dinghies and day sailing boats that you lead on these raids, so, which boat is the best, all round sail boat? What makes a well mannered, fast adventure dinghy sailboat?
Wow that's a huge question, that's pretty hard to answer. I you want to build yourself to save some dollars, in an open dinghy you can't go past the Iain Oughtred Fulmar or maybe the slightly smaller Gannet. If you can afford to buy, maybe a Bayraider 17. With a cabin a Stornaway like mine or a Pathfinder, if you just want to get on the water in Australia, Hartley 16's are common and Compass Careels in fibreglass. If you are overseas, I can't really help sorry...there are just so many to choose from, but thanks for the question , cheers Paul. p.s. if you want to discuss further email me at sailingkatelouise@gmail.com
THANK YOU, sooo much. I repeat watching your videos just because they’re mighty fine, pleasing, informative and have found that you put a real response, really appreciated. Paul, I know this takes a lot of work and dedicated commitment. You must truly enjoy this. It shows. Thank you again…from east Tennessee.
@@papajeff5486 My pleasure Jeff, yes they do take a while, but I love editing, it's what I've done all my life and I also appreciate people who take the time to leave a comment, thanks again cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise I have listened to some songs from Lemmino. They were quite different and no ome else was at all as good as Infinity. What is Lemmino? Is it some kind of platform? I assume not a band as the music is so varied. The Infinity is anywhay great. Is this Australian music?
