Took the PX2S on the first long run (14.3 miles) yesterday after a couple of 9-mile initial runs and I love it. I'm a PXS v1 fanatic and it's been an up-and-down anticipation for v2 after the initial hype, the letdown of all the negative reviews about the weight after the "leak" launch in early-August, then a readjusted expectation that this is just a different kind of shoe from v1, and I find that I'm really enjoying my runs in this version. For the long run, my average HR was 139 at an average pace of 8'17"/mile (5'8"/km) with 262m of elevation gain, which slowed me down quite a bit here and there. On flat terrain, I'd say my HR was in the 130~133bpm for 8'00"/mile (4'58"/km) pace, which I'd say is pretty close to what I'd normally run with v1. The negative with v2 is that it's just not conducive to really picking up the pace to threshold level or all-out speed. But, the positive is that it's much more stable than v1 even though I didn't have stability issues with it as many have. Still, the improved stability made it feel like I was running in "normal" stack shoes and I don't have to be as mindful or conscious about turning corners, jumping on/off sidewalks, avoiding potholes or cambered surfaces, and going fast downhill. It actually felt liberating to just set-and-forget with the v2 while I always have to keep an eye on the road when running in v1. Maybe it's because my expectations were lowered for v2 and/or the novelty of the over-the-top tech in v2 and it's shiny and new, but I have to honestly and objectively say that I really enjoyed my three runs in v2 so far and am looking forward to running in it again soon. I got the v2 in TTS this time (half-size down in v1) and, again, I find it a little too roomy in the forefoot/toe-box area. I haven't had any issues with the upper or the tongue and it wraps around my voluminous feet just fine; it's just roomier and I have to wear double socks (one thin and one thick) to get a good snug fit, which I really shouldn't have to do. Breathability seems fine to me, even when I was running in 90-degree F (32C) heat yesterday. The midsole feels great even though I definitely feel the added weight. For my US size 8, at around 1.5oz (42g) heavier than v1, the weight isn't that bad and weighs virtually the same as my other easy/recovery shoes like Nimbus 25, SC Trainer, and More v4 and the Invincible Run 2 (which I had to go up half-size to 8.5) weighs 0.4oz more than the PX2S. There is no comparison between the PX2S and these shoes. The PX2S is far superior in every way for me. I never want to go more than 8 miles with those shoes and I don't want to go faster than 9'/mile (around 5'35"/km) pace with them. They are strictly for easy/slow. To me, the PX2S feels lighter, is much faster, bouncier, and more propulsive, and just more fun than these shoes while being just as stable for slower paces, which the v1 isn't good at. I thought that perhaps the v2's outsole wouldn't be as grippy as v1 because it's much thinner but the traction is excellent and comparable to that of the Adios Pro 3. Whether going uphill or downhill, turning corners at fast paces, and even jumping on/off sidewalks, the traction felt secure and much more stable than v1 with the wider midsole and outsole base. I was able to run more carefree without having to be as mindful of what obstacles I'd run into as I always do with v1, which was refreshing and quite enjoyable, actually. As you say, Ed, no big performance degradation and, for me, it will fit in just fine in my rotation as a long distance cruiser at moderate and easy/slow paces. I do want to try going easy/recovery/slow next time with v2 and see how it feels at paces like 9~10'/mile (5'35"~6'13"/km). With the first three runs, I was more interested in how the v2 compares with and performs against v1, which it did very well even though it didn't feel right for threshold or all-out sub-6'/mile (3'44"/km) paces due to the weight. With the v1, I feel fine pushing it that fast short of all-out sprints but, with the v2, tempo paces work best from my testing. Now, if the v2 can hold the easy/slow paces with comfort and stability and doesn't compel me to run faster than I want as the v1 does, I can see it become my most oft-used shoe in my rotation.
@@teewaikay Thanks. No, I don't have the Superblast because I have multiple pairs of the PXS v1 and feel it would be redundant at this point in time. I'm intrigued by the Superblast and I'm sure I'll try it eventually, but I'd like to wait and see what other colorways ASICS comes out with. I know that performance and other factors mean more than the look, but the look does matter to a degree. I just don't like any of the colorways available for Superblast. I'm sure it's a great shoe and I think it'd be very different from PX2S but similar to the PXS v1 although probably not as bouncy and propulsive as has been reported by those who have both the v1 and Superblast.
@@ManningOWNsTeboww I'm 58yo and on the light side - about 5'6" (167cm) and 127lbs (57.6kg). I've been running a little over a year after walking and hiking for a few years before then to start getting into shape. My fastest 5K is 21:01 and 10K is 43:25, both with PXS v1. Haven't raced in HM or FM yet. My plan is to run my first HM next year and the FM as a celebration of my 60th year. I've become a running addict (as well as running shoe geek!) and have been averaging about 60 miles (96.5km) per week over the past 6 months. I don't think I would race in the PX2S. It's not easy to really pick up the pace and maintain it due to the weight and its bottom-heavy feel. I did a relatively easy/slow 11-mile run today with it at 9'20/mile (about 4'05/km) pace and it felt great at the slower paces although, like the v1, it beckons you to run at 8'/mile (4'40/km) pace or faster.
will we see 1:2x:xx? fingers crossed for you, I finally went sub 1:30 at the Cheltenham half, some credit owed to the Nike vapourfly 2... think it will always be my go to shoe
Hi eddbud 👋, thanks for your hard work on strung v2 much appreciated , very happy to hear about your fitness level returning you seem very happy about it 💪 💪💪
Good you are getting on OK with them. After two 8 mile runs in mine think am going to give up on them largely as they feel a bit short and my big toe is being crushed a bit. In theory they do a bigger size (UK 14.5 to my 13.5) but then think would be just too big as well as even heavier. Several others commented on my channel similar issues and 4 viewers had or will send them back. That said my pace in them was fine although I did notice the weight when "tried" for a few minutes and thought would be tough deep into say a long tempo when was getting tired and then harder to pick up a heavy shoe off the ground.
did you notice the stitching from the labels biting into your feet? frankly thats the only issue i have with them and trying to figure out how to solve it?
I need a shoe to replace my 600 mile Invincible's, never tried the Prime X1's but can get these for around the £130 mark.. Worth it for my long/easy effort runs? Btw, I'm no where near as fast as you.
Last night ran progressive 5k on track in Prime X 2 strung. Ran same session in original Prime X two weeks ago. In prime X 20.50. Last night 20.10. Which is a year best for 5k by 30 seconds. So yes you can race in Prime X 2. And I believe the exceptional energy return overcomes the weight. Note my previous 5ks this year were have been done in Takumi Sen 8, Adios Pro 3 and Boston 12.
This is music to my ears! Being a size 8 I don't think the weight is going to be a major issue for me as I'd never use it to race in, however stability was the only issue I had with the v1 so hearing that the v2 is better my interest has now peaked 👌🏻
If the upper feels more thick maybe it's to protect your feet from the cold later in the year when Temps drop. It might not be beneficial now but it might later Idk
I was very excited for these and ignored all the weight and criticisms people had. I have 15 miles in mine, 3 runs. I just am not sold with these, whereas the first versions had me shilling them as innovation right out of the box. I have used these for my recovery/easy day runs after my long/speed day runs so it makes sense my legs aren't fresh when I use them, but BOY do I feel the weight of them. I can't tell if this is just my mind tricking me into thinking this because of what everyone has said, but it's just how I have been feeling. I do really love the feeling of them I will say, landing on the forefoot and springyness of them feel amazing, without a doubt, but lifting them just doesn't have me sold yet.. I am on a marathon training block and these have not sold me on grabbing them for my long runs. I still keep reaching for my superblast
Style over substance. For me it is not the weight, it is just the v1 is a lot more fun. V2 has a very strange feeling under foot, not quick, not for easy miles, bouncy, but not that much, makes you heelstrike, it is a mixture of everything to be good for really nothing. Don't get me wrong, the shoe is not bad at all, I would definitely keep them for like 160 euros. For 250 it is an instant return.
i reall enjoyed the prime x strung. i don't know about the extra weight on v2. i would have liked to have seen a drop in weight. with the extra weght, i am not sure i will get it.
The grate Patric Lange from Germany set the world record marathon split over the Ironman distance (Challenge Roth 2023) in these shoes. Triathlon is a bit undecided about banning athletes from using shoes with crays high stack hight and futuristic technology. It dose show that in the hands of one of the fastest Triathlon runners the world has ever seen, these shoes can hammer out some banger marathon splits dispirit its weight. Maybe the energy return is that good. I am training for an half Ironman and I’m looking for a pair of super shoes for that race. These are a bit to pricey for me though...
I just don’t get this shoe 🤷♂️ - if it’s a recovery / long run shoe - is it better than say Triumph or Invincible? Sorry if these are bad questions. Want a reason to buy them but confusing.
How do you think it'll fare for a chill first marathon race? I've been using the Adios Pro 3 for two months now, and was thinking of using it for my race. Now I'm trying to choose between the two
I have them both. I enjoy the 1 a lot more still. I know people mention stability and I like extra stability, but I don’t notice it on the v1 like others. The v2 isn’t bad but it just loses what makes the PXS great and that’s how fun the shoe is.
If you have good strong ankles the primex strung is wild shoe. The pro 3 perhaps a more “conservative” choice this time though if you want a super racer which is still durable. Thanks for the super support 👍🏼👊
I just run my first 10k at 5’55km/h with the Prime X Strung V1. Just one word : Impressed. Just wanted to continue my effort a 10k more. What a pair of shoe !!!! I understand what you like
it sems like the Big; but implied conclusion over the last 12 months testing is that neither strung 1 or strung 2 hold a candle tot the very first non-strung Prime X!
@@azylee sorry it was early and I was half asleep! Stance are good though I prefer a thinner sock these days. Some of the adidas models are good for thickness but they seem to change them at Will so hard to know if they are the same ones
Speaking of a shoe vs shoe... I've tried the VF3 now. First run was 18km, got a few blisters. Second run, thicker sock, 5km, loved them a lot. I'm torn between V2 and V3. But, give me why dream choice? I'd go V1 every time.
Do you think the prime x2 would work for run commuting? I need it to handle slowish pace, durable, stable and need it to keep my legs fresh. Will be carrying a small backpack. Money is not an issue
Recorded effort has become an issue with me since Sundays run, ran 18k in reality, according to Garmin I ran 14k, according to the path on the map Garmin created I ran 25k, and if recorded data is accurate I set a PB in the 1k of 11seconds, did a mile in 2:17, but whilst on the run my watch constantly beeped at me for running too fast at 7second pace and too slow at 22min per KM...(I was running, Garmin, I wasn't chasing snails in rocket shoes) I dont think satalites have the ability to understand the anomaly of a sunny day in Scotland, most annoying run ever.
@@EDDBUD mine goes all over the place at random times, sometimes in a park, sometimes out in the country, other times in the city, you'd think it would have the intelligence to work out from it's maps that you ran along the path/road and didn't actually run through the lake/pond/factory/sea...
Very interesting, I received my pair a few days ago and haven't had a chance to give them a run yet. I'm actually struggling to work out how they get so much weight in the forefoot, the back is light like the previous versions but the front feels like there's a sinker in the front, it can't be from the energy core as that seems minimal and quite light compared to light strike pro which means it must be from the carbon plate structure. I then thought maybe the extra weight is intentional to help with a forefoot strike. Agree with the upper part of the toe box, it's not overly wide but it seems to have a big air gap between the foot and the upper material. I listened to the lead designer and he insisted that their elite athletes all rated it as a faster shoe than version 1 and that there was no major change from the prototype.
I bought a pair through the Pro Direct app in the Black Friday sale and they’ve just arrived. 😢 I’m disappointed. The fit is great (half size up from normal), feel really comfortable and bouncy. But when I run up and down the hall, they make a duck quacking sound with every step. Im guessing here, but it could have something to do with compressing the air between the gap through the midsole (??) So I’m sending them back. Has anybody else had this issue???
Yeah, a Pair of V2s. I can’t be running down the road quacking like a duck 🦆. It sounds so funny, but laughing whilst running must affect form and use up more energy 😆 gonna be watching that one shortly, it’s in my notifications list 👍
My runs so for with Adidas Prime X Strung 2 have ended up faster with the same effort than with any other shoe I have including first Prime X. Doesn't feel I'm going that fast. Believe new design returns more than enough extra energy to carry extra weight. And considering a leg weights 10 kilograms why should 40-50g make that much difference? Only issue is slight rubbing around left side top lace hole on right shoe.
ok so did back to back runs in them. Had phenomenal pace 6:50 min per mile for a 10k and 6:46 per mile for my 5k today. One issue the stitching where the labels have dug into the skin on both runs on the inside of my feet through the sock even with a heel lock on (the first run i did not have a heel lock only dug into the left. then heel lock today and only dug into my right). do i just cut them out and hope that solves it or do i return them Ed?
I plead for focussing on body weight. Rather than on shoe weight some pounds impact way more on your performance than some grams more or less on your shoe.
Let's not kid ourselves Ed, Strung 1 was such a joy to run in that I am really disappointed by this update as it's more expensive, more weight, now kinda stable taking away the fun factor and terrible upper. An all around backwards step from adidas. It's true what they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
