You betta preach that shit, man! Your Momma and Daddy raised you right by the way you commented on this! Much respect to you AND the old school of hip hop and the way of life the way it was back then!!!!
Girl, it was a good time be a young kid back in the days, I was just in grade 1 but I had older cousins who had good taste. ;) Don't be mad, be happy it is still around for you to hear :)
Amen to that. That era is somewhat still alive thanks to Nicki Minaj, T-Pain, Drake and others. For your listening pleasure, check out "Reminisce" by Mary J. The original "Is It Good to You" features Tammy Lucas. It is a full song. Check it out! #NewJackSwingLives4eva.
Yeah, it's one thing to miss something and enjoy it. But she means that she wishes she was apart of that time. To actually be in that era and enjoy the times when the song came out....those were the days....and the SUMMER'S were HOT and not just weather wise.
I was just about to make the same comment! And replaced her with skinny light skinned women singing her song with her voice. Missy said she used to go thru the same thing back on the day.
RIP the two members of The Boyz Heavy D (May 24, 1967 - November 8, 2011), aged 44 Trouble T Roy (October 19, 1967 - July 15, 1990), aged 22 You both will be remembered as legends.
@@AnastasiaBeaverhousn He was one of the boys in Heavy D ‘N The Boyz! Also, the last verse in “They Reminisce Over You,” one of the greatest hip hop sons ever, by Pete Rock & CL Smooth, is about him.
Only 44! Hip hop is so young as a genre. OG's in hip hop are in their 50s. OGs I'm Rock and Roll ate on their 70s if they're still around, wow. So young!
Is it to much to ask rappers nowadays to rap about love as smooth as Heavy did i'm so tired of hearing about clubs and money all that dumb shit Hev was in a class of his own though! Miss you Hev!
I'm so glad they were able to recognize that who else could they be? Don't get me wrong of course these singers were marketed but back then it feels like a polish, nowadays it's strip back to bare metal style like wtf. I wish we could all tell them, "Just be yourself; 'cause no one else can (be you)". Ah well, world keeps turning...
This song is incredibly romantic, especially for a New Jack Swing rap song. Teddy Riley makes the BEST samples. He takes the best elements (melody, bass line, strings) and adds beats and very little percussion. He keeps the original special. This song will always have a place in my heart. And Heavy’s delivery is perfect.
I used to listen to R&B all the time in the 90’s. There were so many talented producers back then. Top 3 for me are Teddy Riley, Babyface and Terry Lewis & Jimmy Jam. Prince was one of a kind for his own right. No one could imitate his sounds. After them, I really liked the music of Chuckii Booker. He was also one of the genius producers. Lastly I am still a big fan of Kenny Greene from Intro. Very sad that some of them are no longer with us.
Do you remember the Tammy Lucas version? I believe it's still her singing the hook on this one. She is an unsung talent. Has written and song and worked with so many. Look her up!! I still rock this song to this day!! All of Hev's discs stayed in my changer but the Blue Funk album was my favorite. The Overweight Lover will always be in my heart!! For real!!!
You right no auto tune because this new stuff everybody sounds the same .I think around 2009 was the end of good rap and hip hop you still had a few good ones out there .
The feeling back then was sooo different. I was in Middle School. Slleeping at night, waiting to hit on my crushes as a white dude in Brentwood NY. I got up, the music, the clothese, the essense. Later on I got that, but this was an era you cant mess with. I wouldnt change for anything. Now way!!! It was charged and nostalgic. The energy was different. Being Down was different as well. God Damn!!! Pants saggin, nice shirts, being down was what was up!! Music now is garbage as far as hip hop goes. I love the older hiphop and rock days. I do it all. I miss my earlier days. The days before autotune BS. Id rather be 100 years old then live in a newer era. No way! Kids dont get it nowadays. No Heavy D? No Pac, No great movies? Even shows on tv?! Hot 97? Oh God! Id kill to go back. The feeling was just right there. A beautiful essense. No cell phones, no internet, just madd love for the music, Looking, smelling, and feeling good. What happened?!
Bro your comment definitely hit it right on the nail! When it comes to the 90's, you just had to be there. The smell, the sunshine was different. The whole essence can never be duplicated!
Me too , my first year of middle school, Milwaukee,Wi. I'm gonna even go out on a limb and say this type $#!+ brings tears thinking back. Hip Hop lost it's way. Man.PARIS SAID IT BEST I MISS THE DAYS OF OLD. NICE COMMENT BRO. ONLY US 90'S TEENS OVER STAND!!
Zapp were the only ones using autotune and it sounded great. Now almost every one is using autotune and they sound like hot doo doo trash🔥💩🤧👎🏽👎🏽💯 NOTHING like 80's/90's era for real.
Don’t forget the fact that our grandparent’s generation were running things back in the 90’s. It was OK to be patriotic and NOBODY messed with the USA.
New Jack Swing remains my favorite music, right next to Country. I miss Heavy D, he was a very talented rapper...you know, back when hip hop was actually hip hop with talented rappers..
This is about some real lovin' right here. The little things that really count, like dancing close with a man, running your fingers through his hair, chit chatting, flirting, laughing, enjoying each others company and really pampering each other. This was before cell phones! When you hung out with a cutie, your attention was undivided. Let's keep this alive! True intimacy...the good stuff...
There’s a 80’s/90’s nostalgia that I can’t put into words! Sadly, those days can’t be duplicated...they are long gone! Nobody could out dance the over weight lover!
Heavy D Had A Dancing Style Of His Own , I Think Fred Astaire Would Be In Awe & Appreciate The Style Of Heavy D Smooth Move Gliding Across The Dance Store 👍✌️
Fun fact this track was originally created for Wreckx-N-Effect, but Heavy D came in and said he wanted it for his record. Teddy couldn't say no to the big man.
@@cervantestheherbalist1291 he is Jamaïcan, man. Don't claim him if he does not belong to your own . Plus , New Jack Swing and Rap music have always been Black music
+chi chi chi she has a baby with leon from the five heartbeats..Thus he was on R.H.O.A. along with Christopher Williams who was on uptown/mca along with Heavy D..
Man the 90's......18yr old.....Crusin in whatever car I could get for $300. Windows rolled down, bumping the back- alley stereo system with six different speakes spliced in the weak factory 8-track, swearing I had it goin'g on!!! With tracks like this, you had no reason to think otherwise.......Lol
Times goes by quick. I will always appreciate and like this era of music, has a lot of greatness. I still respect old school music etc because back then if you did have talent you cannot make. Old artist/ group came with their personal style and sway. This current era use a lot of technology to enhance their music, their music is good. Old school era will be Never forgotten. Period
He was serious about that acting game and he started putting out Reggae albums...he was the President of Uptown /MCA Records at one time...Al B Sure, Diddy, Jodeci, Monifa, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Father MC, Soul 4 Real...he helped put them on!
Yeah, it was and still is a blow. That news was shocking. Love Heavy D, the overweight love. He made it cool to be big and be yourself. Rest in music to Heavy D. The world lost a great one.🙏
RIP Too one of the greatest...Heavy diddly Dee...gone too soon.....still jamming his music in 2024....so make little room here comes Big Daddy ..... built like a truck stop.... fine like a Katty... If you love Heavy...and stiil jamming in 2024...shout out
william whitaker Yeah I know he produced it/constructed it but not sure if he actually did the beat.Back then some producers just got instrumentals bought to them and arranged them around, that's really what a producer is though.I was wondering who actually made the instrumental,he probably did it too though.
