The AutoEdits Dodge Ram 1500 HEMI 4x4 gets a Woody in this video! I show you how to install a set of Tom Wood's Custom Driveshafts in the off road adventure truck and I'll explain why I'm converting the rear driveshaft from a two piece unit back to a single solid driveshaft.
Since I've been running the Tom Wood's Driveshafts in my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon project... I've been thankful for the peace of mind they afford me when doing dumb things off road. So for that reason, when it came time to replace and update the driveshafts in the Ram truck... I called Tom Wood first!
The unique aspect of this install is that the truck had been modified with a Jeep transfer case and there are good and bad parts to that. The good is that it has a 4:1 low range ration instead of the 2.7:1 of the stock unit and the Jeep T-case offers the elimination of slip yolks on both front and rear outputs.
The bad is that the truck computer no longer can shift it with the electronic solenoid and the front axle disconnect had to be manually wired in... so needless to say the computer is not very happy... but the truck runs pretty good as it is.
With some simple measurement requirements I got from the Tom Wood's website... I was able to order up custom shafts that showed up to my house in about three days! It was fairly awesome.
Here are the basic specs on the "Woody's" installed...
Front is a Type A, Double Cardan CV, 2" tube with 1330 series U joints.
Rear is a Type B standard slip, 2 joint drive shaft, 4" tube with 1350 series U joints.
Both are extremely strong and offer super tough reliability to this build!
