You would think by now, NY would figure out a way to put covers on those hydrants so they don't freeze! Excellent coverage featuring the fire and firefighters and not so much on the trucks as the Magisterium does. He says it's about the trucks. It certainly is not! It's about the courageous firefighters who always go in never thinking if they will come out alive or not. It's a very dangerous job and life can never be replaced but those trucks are material things and can be replaced. I just subscribed and gave a thumbs up! :-)

Structure fires of this type are always difficult to fight for fire department paid and volunteer. Fire can get into the attack and between the wall which makes it even harder to put out. If it is the attack and there is no ACCESS to the from the inside of the home that is where the job gets more difficult. As a volunteer I have ran into fire like this with no access to the attack from inside the home and it was a night mare, vent holes had to be cut in the roof so the smoke and heat could released and we would use the cellar nozzle to put the fire out. In between the walls means ripping walls down and spraying down the hots spots.

I don''t know how the firemen do it in that temperature. If our firemen have to fight fire in thirty two degrees the news talks about the bad conditions they have to battle along with the fire. To us that is cold and feel sorry for our firemen. Then in the summer when it is a hundred degrees the news talks about the same thing. Bless NYC firemen for their dedication in that kind of cold.

And this is the reason why in Germany all cables for electricity and telecommunications are underground! The only exception are the cables for the tram cars, but they are so far away from the houses and the attachment to the houses on the streets are so far away from each other, that firefighters can set up the towerladders very well in big cities like Munich! Only on very rare occasions in cities the cables for the tram way is a little bit closer to the buildings and the firefighters have a lot of problems with them, but the electricity companies are working very fast and they shut down the system in this particular area and they put the cables down for the firefighters that they can do their jobs after this! That's it and the other thing on fire in houses is that in Germany all houses are built with concrete and rocks and the roofs are made from concrete shingles and the building laws are made far in the history of Germany because of devastating fires in many cities which destroyed them so terribly that the kings and governments decided to put this building laws in place and this is the reason why in Germany many of these fires are not so much devastating and horrible and with a lot lower risk and level of damage to the buildings and houses and with a better security for other buildings around them that they don't catch fire during the fire in the next neighborhoods! That's it and I think that the Americans should do it the same way like the German people are doing it for their own safety and security and lives! Think about it! Lovely greetings from Sarah and have a wonderful day and stay safe out there and take care of you all the time 🙋💖🙋💖🙋💖🙋💖🙋💖

@@sarahivsutterb747 Sarah your comments are correct. Alot of cities and towns in Europe were completely destroyed in the many wars. There infrastructure was completely rebuilt. Alot of American cities and towns have infrastructure that goes back to the late 1800 s. Our infrastructure someday will haunt us. One good example is Puerto Rico. Over many decades they have been ravaged by hurricanes. They always get American funds to rebuild and modernize. But through corruption they rebuild it with wood and finally got called out for it. Thats why infrastructure in America is old

There comes a time when you have to sound the horns, get everybody out, and go to an exterior attack. I think they pushed it to the limit, on this fire. Terrible conditions, with frozen hydrants, sub zero weather, overhead power lines, and night operations.

Not disrespecting the firefighters here. Just wondering in a city like New York why they have not installed dry barrel hydrants? They would solve the frozen hydrant issue.
@robertspitko5465

Here in the Northeast we do have dry-barrel hydrants however they still freeze from time to time due to malfunction, extreme cold etc.

@@robertspitko5465 When I fought fire in the Peace River part of Alberta we never had an issue like that, just lucky I guess.
@FalconzInc
@FalconzInc 5 лет назад
NYC does have dry barrels, a variety of things in New York make hydrants a challenge. When you were in Alberta, you probably didn't have people dumping their garbage and shit into the hydrants, in NYC that's a common occurrence. Usually you find that the water right under the valve guide near the drain and in the boot of the hydrant freezes. NYC isn't the sole victim to this, it's a common occurrence across the New York Metro Area, including where I fight fires.
@retiredarthritic2083
@retiredarthritic2083 5 лет назад
@@FalconzInc Well I have an answer to what the issue is. Garbage plugging the drain of a dry barrel hydrant is never good but there is a possible solution segilock hydrant tops the best part is the hydrant can be removed from the riser and a segilock hydrant can be put on. I don't know if they have started doing this please enlighten me. and yes in some areas of Alberta this is also a big problem. where I volunteered it was occasionally once or twice a year. It caused us to have to flush the hydrant before we hooked into it just to be sure.

Notwithstanding the commitment of the firefighters, I struggle to understand why, when firefighters are fighting to have cancer recognised as a work related illness, I see them working in a completely smoked logged location and not wearing their Breathing Apparatus.
@glennhuber4975
@glennhuber4975 4 года назад
Michael Hourigan notwithstanding the stupid comment, I’m going to ask , are you a firefighter? If not why do you care? These guys are doing a dangerous job in dangerous conditions. I understand the risk, but it’s not the World Trade Center where there were more to deal with then a normal house fire. Next time post a comment saying how well they did or how brave they were.
@michaelhourigan7950
@michaelhourigan7950 4 года назад
@@glennhuber4975 Thanks Glenn for your concise critique. No, I am not a firefighter, I am a Paramedic. I have a brother who is a retired firefighter and a son who is an active firefighter. Doing a dangerous job in dangerous conditions doesn't mean you should take unnecessary risk. Where I come from there is a big push to have cancer recognised as a work related illness due to exposure to everything from noxious gasses to asbestos. BTW, are you a firefighter?
