The Fluid Film is tested by itself inside the recessed hex head socket screws. Fully realizing this was not the intended use of the product, it is far better than nothing in the allen heads. The video shows plain wax melted in the hex heads is the better method but will take the user several minutes to complete the task. Fluid Film is fast and will protect the metal down in the deep recess of the hex heads, but you will need to scrape out a bit more dirt as it adheres to the FF down in the recess.
The tooth bar is on a John Deere 1025R with H120 loader and 49 inch bucket.

LocTite BLUE works just as good and you can get it at any local hardware store. Silicon is best to fill the hex sockets because it will last and can be removed quicker than wax.

I have a John Deere 45 loader and the heavy hitch tooth bar wouldn't go on the bucket edge with pushing it against a concrete wall quite hard. Have ever heard of that.

Anybody know how to pull a tooth off?
@goaheadmakeourdayscooterpe9644

Never seize on screws and hot glue for inside of set screws last for months of work.
@pmtips4482

Thanks for the tip! Hot glue would be lots tougher than wax and still easy to pluck out. Work safe!

Mines on and off numerous times a day, don't even anti seize them. But in reality wouldn't it be a million times easier to switch to plain old grade 8 bolts? We're not worrying about dirt and material hanging up, hell the tooth bar does a great job of that by itself. Not bashing it, it works great, but no need for flush bolts.
@pmtips4482
@pmtips4482 3 года назад
I've thought the same thing, go with a 1 inch grade 8 bolt. After all, how much dirt would actually hang up behind them during dumping. Thanks for watching!

You can get marine grade anti-seize for the screws.

The wax seemed to be the winner to me. Those teeth sure make that loader look more capable. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Oby-1 and thanks for watching! You're right, the wax is king here! I thought I would have to dig the wax out but that is not the case, a small pick or screwdriver just pops the whole plug right out. Have a good one!!

Good test and unpack video! Thanks for taking the time to share your skill and knowledge! I too have a HH toothbar and love it for digging. Dumping takes more time, due to the steeper angle needed to overcome the friction on the bar across the nice slippery bucket. It also tends to be a more violent dump, but when I need to dig, it's fantastic, I can peel sod and fill the bucket with it. For the set screws, try nothing and clean with a 3/16 screwdriver. Spin it in and dig or blow it out. A little refuse is generally left in the hole, but getting plenty of grip distance is pretty easy and takes less time than wax every time. Wax of course cleans out better. Thanks again, nicely done, loved the chart!

Hi Dan and thanks for watching and commenting! As you say, the inside mount bracket makes you have to dump at a steeper angle. You're right on the recessed socket screws, it's easy to get a quarter inch of bite with the hex head after digging out a little dirt. Have a good one!

Great demo. You can bet I'll be using one of these methods on mine. Leaning towards the wax only method. Thanks.

Thanks John, I'm with you on the wax, take a few minutes to melt it in and after that it's "no worries"!

nice tooth bar.+1 on you actually running proper throttle, far too many u-tooberz running their tractors at 50% throttle and doing heavy work.

@@pmtips4482 Question on your toothbar, is that considered the standard duty or heavy duty when ordering from their website? Thanks
@pmtips4482
@pmtips4482 4 года назад
My cutter bar thickness is 1/2 inch so I need the standard. The heavy duty is for cutter bar thickness 5/8 to 3/4 inch. Good luck to you!

I keep a screwdriver in the toolbox for cleaning out the hex sockets. Clean out enough to get the Allen wrench in place.

I place a small piece of Scotch Brite into the hex hole and then drop wax to fill. It makes removal of the eas quicker and cleaner using a ice pick or small screwdriver.

Straight wax seems to work good, actually all 3 do. I wonder if melted P-Tex stick would be more durable than wax over the long haul than wax. P-Tex is a type of plastic repair material for snow ski bases and you melt it with a lighter. Heck, I bet melting plastic army men would do OK too!
@pmtips4482
@pmtips4482 4 года назад
Hi Warped, I'm not sure about P-Tex but it probably is lots tougher than wax. It may pop right out too. Wax is going to be hard to beat here in this application. If I come across any P-Tex I'll sure try it out as it sounds pretty interesting. Thanks for watching and commenting! Stay safe!!

What kind of wax is the best to use on the set screws?
@pmtips4482
@pmtips4482 3 года назад
I used a trappers wax block I had, I would think any wax you can safely get to melt and drip the hex pockets full would be fine. Thank you for watching and commenting! Work safe!!

Silver anti seize the set screws and be done with it. Mud is easily picked out of the hex with dental pick set or small screwdriver.

@pmtips4482 4 года назад
Hi John, thanks for watching! A good anti-seize is the priority on the screws. The wax, etc., takes a bit of time, but you're right....a small screwdriver will pick out dried mud and packed dirt. Have a good one!

The tooth bar looks good on the tractor. It does have a very aggressive look! lol The wax is a great idea. it works really good. Have a good week Pm!

Excellent video. Your log hauling with the cable led me here so I’ve subscribed. I just bought a JD 1025R and ordered the HH tooth bar for it. Haven’t used either yet but your comments about both lead me to believe I’ve made good choices.

A well done experiment, thank you for sharing. Would something like an ear plug, or rubber plug work? There are many choices of materials and shapes. It would have to be a tight fit, and cut shorter than the hex hole depth. Depending on the flexibility of the plug material, you could remove it with a pointy tool, or dental pick. I am planning on getting a HH toothbar, now that I have job justification. 8^)

Another thought on plugging the hex screw holes: a hex-shaped magnet, that just fits down the hex hole. A slot cut across the top of the magnet, with roll pin installed 90° to the slot - to assist in pulling the magnet out. I bet that would work!
@pmtips4482
@pmtips4482 5 лет назад
nanomaine, thanks for watching and commenting! After this video, I've come to the conclusion that wax is the way to go. It does take a few minutes to melt it in, but I thought it would have to be pulled out in little pieces and that is not the case. Wax will pull out in a single plug and that seals the deal for me :-!
