Love these kind of videos. This reminds me of when I get together with My buddy who also collects and we just chat and listen to new records. Good stuff Dillon 👍🏻
That CSN test pressing is badass. They were really incredible. No band has ever harmonized like they could. CSNY Deja Vu is one of my favs. I like the attitude about supplying your kids with instruments but not making them play. Literally every single person I know whose parents made them play an instrument, they hate it now even tho they can play. You learn something when you’re passionate about
JPT Scare Band is a great band! Heavy for it's time fo sho! Damn it sucks about Jeff Beck's passing. I miss that guy's playing so much, but I was fortunate enough to see him live twice.
love that dashboard record. Story time: Back in like 2013 I won tickets to see Chris' new (at the time) band called Twin Forks during SXSW. I was like 1/10 people in line. Chris hopped out of the van and made it a point to have a conversation with everyone individually and thank them for coming. He chatted with me about my tattoos because I had a New Found Glory tattoo ( because of course I do) and took a photo of it and actually called one of the dudes in NFG and was like "I sent you a picture of the best NFG tattoo i've ever seen." and he asked ME if I wanted a photo with him. All this to say...Great dude, great music, forever a fan.
Back when I was collecting imported and obscure jazz CDs back in the 90s I got that Jaco with Mouzon and Manglesdorff, and a Japanese issue of that Walter Davis. Jeff Beck Wired was one of my formative albums in high school. Listening to JPT on streaming right now. Bonkers guitar 🎸🎶🎶 Thanks for another great video.
Hey Dillon. Thanks for the Walter Davis recommendation. Just ordered a copy from AS. I’ll give you a recommendation. Not sure how rocking you get, but check out Mooch - Hounds. Think hard rock version of The Doors. Band out of Canada. They just released it on vinyl. They have a new album out too which is also good, but start with Hounds. Cheers.
The company I work for sitting at a desk and trimming for eight hours I am able to listen to a lot of music and that's how the want list gets bigger and bigger
Was out the other day digging and remembered you recommended early Poco and I picked up Indian summer and a good feeling to know with textured cover both five bucks. Really like the texture cover one. Kind of like they were making harvest? Any other Poco or Alt. Country suggestions? You are on point with those. Thanks.
Daniel Hecht also released an excellent album on the Windham Hill label in the early 80's titled "Willow." Sadly, he developed some problems with his hands and switched careers as a musician and became a mystery writer with several books selling well.
😁 I know you meant April 27th, 1977 and not August hehe. I'd love to get that same LP set you showed for The Destroyer. I've got a gazillion copies but not on LP unfortunately. Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
As I know you are a huge zep fan, there is a new video on RU-vid from a guy who made an amazing find inside a copy of LZ4, which I think you would like to see. It's called "Amazing find inside copy of Led Zeppelin IV", I think.
What vinyllova said is right. Clapton's more polished and deliberate style comes more from his natural composure, not from just practicing the same solos over and over. That being said maybe that's not your cup of tea, totally up to you what you like and dislike.
In the States you guys have access to so much good stuff that it would be easy to just go hog wild. I know I did when I visited there. Here in Australia you really have to hunt, you can go months without seeing anything decent. Jazz is especially arid here. I've had two good jazz scores in three years. With jazz we seem to have more Japanese pressing probably because of the proximity of the two countries. If you want to pay top $$ then things are available but in general most dealers are elitist and gougers because they know the situation. At the moment I'm selling off my collection and basically I undercut everyone and only sell VG+ items and above. I consider selling ten a week at good rates is better than one high priced item a fortnight.
Dillon, maybe you could clarify this one for me about JPT Scare Band.. or anyone else might.. I read their wiki & it says they formed in the early 70s but their first album wasn’t released until 1994. So are the recordings on that first album what accumulated during the 70s??
Were you selling before Discogs? Meaning was there a time where the price of a record wasn’t readily available? Wondering how’d you price some of rarer presses post 1990 up to 2008 or so
I’d love to, but I don’t have the time to put 8-10 hours of editing into a video. Takes too much time, if you want to hear it, you can find it, it’s out there!
