Studying is very much unique to the individual. What works for one student won't necessarily work for another. The trick is to find what works for you and then do it.

As someone who works in IT i would really recommend putting the larger screen infront of you and then have the laptop to the side, It will be much better for your back, neck and eyes.

you're doing fab, so hardworking! I'm a PR consultant and I've worked from home for the last 2 years (pre-lockdown I used to work on my laptop in Pret, good times), it took some time to get used to! Me and my clients have a mutual understanding that anything goes, we have dogs, kids, partners all coming in and out, makeup is not a thing at all, we have a laugh etc. it's good.

Hi Paige, I’m a year older to you and have been watching your videos since you started vlogging you Cambridge journey. I started working a year ago and all my memories and anxieties of starting a full time job came rushing back to me while I watched this video. I know small things like learning how to take minutes of the meeting can be stressful but don’t worry about it you’ll get there. I am exactly like you where I keep take on work in spite of already have my plate full and went through very similar struggles like what you’re now going through , just give it time and hang in there as the months go by, you’ll learn how to deal with clients, how to politely say no to your seniors. Don’t worry , you’ll be fine ❤️

Most Video Conferencing software has a subtitles option which can help taking notes. If you are allowed to record the call you can have software transcribe it later. For you note taking, the software probably has an abbreviation option. There you could add long or hard words or even whole phrases that are commonly used and only need a couple of keystrokes to enter them.

While it's all nice and good, don't let work to take away your study days! You need to make it clear, that X is your study day, because people just won't know it and will give you tasks. It's a classic with new people, who are too shy to say that. In the end you'll still need to study and you'll spend your personal time on it, which is not nice

Thanks for another great video! V relatable. If you book your leave in advance and set an out of office message, people usually respect that and wouldn’t contact you unless it’s urgently required. Before taking on new tasks, check what the deadline is and voice out if there are other urgent tasks/conflicting schedules. It helps manage yr manager’s expectations and allows you to prioritise better. Hope this helps and All the best!:)

Just noticed that you said you don't touch type - have to say that I took typing one year in high school (I had the mistaken belief that it was going to be a real benefit in university - it wasn't). It wasn't until long after I'd finished grad school (and made Fellow) that I suddenly discovered that touch typing was a valuable skill. Seems that high school course paid off after all.
@AC-qz3uj
@AC-qz3uj 3 года назад
Me too, in Germany you have to learn it in high school. Without being able to type you will not get your A-levels... but at least she went to Cambridge... she will be waisting soooo much time granted her whole work is on the computer.

I relate to this video so hard lol. I set out to finish 4 things, 5 things are thrown at me plus 3 meetings, two of them are cancelled but another kick-off meeting is set up, thing number one I set out to do is taking too long, so I tackle the 5 that were unscheduled, but thing number three of those gets complicated and I need to reach out to someone to finish it, then thing number 4 is interrupted by the meetings, the end of the day comes and I'm still on thing 5 of the surprises, then I go back to thing one I actually planned to do and finish it but it is too late now for things 2, 3, 4 and 5, so I pick the most urgent one and finish that and then start planning the day for the other 3, but one look at my calendar tells me that the meetings that were cancelled are scheduled in the morning, plus the ones I already had for that day and my e-mail informs me of surprise thing 1 for tomorrow that is due by the end of the day, so I give up and go to bed. No stops because that is how it feels.

Fact is, I'd been working as an actuary for five years before I met anyone with a degree in actuarial science - most of the actuaries I knew had degrees in STEM subject (lots of math) and I know exactly two actuaries with humanities degrees (one has a Bachelors in comparative religions, the other a Masters in English literature).
