How old are you? I'm 22.
What's your job? I work as a Risk Analyst in Insurance Consulting, and am studying to become a qualified actuary.
What did you do at university? I studied Physical Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, and specialised in Astrophysics.

As someone who works in the tech/software side of Insurance at one of the worlds largest insurers, where I never get to interact with Actuaries - we usually just treat them as a "black box" that produces spreadsheets 😂 - it's great to see this side of the business! Thanks for sharing with such specific terminology and depth Paige! Seems you're getting on tremendously well, which is great to see.

This video was so great to see but it makes me feel so sad for myself:( I also graduated in 2020 but my home situation means I wouldn’t be able to hold up a job working from home I just about have a laptop let alone a quiet space that I could work in all day so I haven’t been able to get a graduate job yet which is really really sad for me and it’s ruined my whole university ending! Hopefully things get a bit more back to normal soon so that I can get a proper grab job

I've been working from home since last March and it's getting like groundhog Day. Having a routine and taking a break from work is so important - the temptation to switch the laptop on at weekends can be very strong and should be resisted. Good to see you do the right thing and take a proper lunch break and get some fresh air.

@@ecorry6716 Ah haha, it's not really similar in any way, it's just another good read. It's a YA high fantasy with a strong female mc If you do end up reading it (really recommend) the second book is the slowest but it's worth getting past it to the other books But also another good book series is Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss but a warning, the third book isn't out yet and it's been 10+ years since the last one was released with no release date in sight. Still one of the best book series I've read tho

Hi Paige, I have secured a grad job in insurance consulting at Marsh. I may be placed in the analytics team Which means having to do actuarial exams eventually. I don’t want to do actuarial exams and it makes me think the role or a risk analyst might be too technical/mathematical. Do you find you use actuarial models and skills whilst working in your role?? Thanks for your help!

I loved the Maze runners books, but I absolutely hated the films. They had nothing to do with the books. First one was loke okay.. but i got worse and worse with the rest of the films.

I’m not sure I have much insightful advice beyond “apply for a selection of actuarial grad jobs/internships”. It may be helpful to have experience working with spreadsheets and coding but not essential!
