Heifetz has always been my hero while growing up. I haven't played violin or listen to violin music in years, but his advice on discipline is something I duly need as I'm headed into grad school for STEM. Need better study habits, need to not give into indulgences, need to dream big and keep myself disciplined. Thanks for posting and reminding me that legends like Heifetz never die!

Well said. His advice is certainly something that I too could use. As you say - his advice can apply to any number of areas - not just to musicians.

Discipline I could see him as student of him. He was punctual coming to the master class driving his Bentley. His favorite lunch was cornbeef sandwich. When he didn't feel good he invited students to come to his BeverlyHills house for the lesson. He held chamber music session periodically. He made his students to take lesson for piano and he made sure we play viola so to be able to play viola in chamber music.

Thank you for sharing! You must have known then Nathaniel Rosen and Jeffrey Solow, who played cello in Heifetz chamber music sessions. Did you study with Heifetz during that period?

@vladimirdyo7301 Yes exactly. Nathan and Jeffrey came to class and played cello in chamber. Nathan was assistant to Piatigorski then. I was Heifetz student f or 4 years since 1973, one of the longest. Some of my playing on RU-vid - simon young kim

@@user-op6vy3gg2b fantastic, I would love to chat with you more! I performed with both Jeff and Nathaniel, Nathaniel’s playing was beyond this world, especially his tone production. Jeff has an amazing bow control and especially his seamless bow-change technique.
