🙋🏼 ABOUT ME: Hi guys! My name is Alyona. I was born in Russia. I'm a musician. And I love art, makeup, fashion, style and beautiful environments. I love playing with makeup and fashion, but at the same time, I’m quite a minimalistic person. I don't like the idea of being fixated on the body too much. I have an alternative and unconventional viewpoint on beauty, the body types and face shapes. I love helping other women find their "it" and finally discover their beauty and boost their confidence.
I have several series on my channel that you might be interested in such as: Body Types, Contouring, Makeup History and Makeup Transformations. Also some random beauty hacks about skin care, hair, nails and beauty in general.

as I stand here confused about my body type I realize it’s not about fitting perfectly in that little box. Kibbe types are meant to be a guide to help us find clothes and accessories that make us feel like we look good, and not a definition of who and what you are. Sometimes we just get caught up on the labels and forget the whole point of it! And also thank you, Aly, for doing this to help us! This is like a controversial opinion in the Kibbe community, but I believe visual height matters more than actual height.
@blueice011
@blueice011 3 года назад
It is controversial, because we don't exist in virtual reality. Everything may look very different in photos, but in reality, there is no visual height or appearance of vertical line there is only factual height and body mass. And when compared in real life with people 6'' taller and 30 pounds heavier with the 'same body image', you get to realize that the system is rubbish.
@NaNa-wy2tk
@NaNa-wy2tk 3 года назад
@@blueice011 I said visual, not virtual. We do live in a visual reality, we see things and often perceived things with what they visually look like, from far away, up-close, individually and as a group. When I say visual height matter more, I don't mean actual measurement is a myth. I'm saying it matters in terms of kibbe and just acknowledging basic body proportions, it's as simple as acknowledging that the sky looks blue. Many Kibbe enthusiasts are stubbornly against something as basic and fundamental as body proportions.

 @Na Na exactly, I couldn't really find myself in these descriptions. I am short (159 cm) but thin and with long limbs, so people who know me in person are always surprised when I state my height as I have a long vertical line (they assumed I am around 165).
@Lolzadoodle8484
@Lolzadoodle8484 3 года назад
@@SpotlessMind871 same! I'm 163cm (tall for my family/ethnicity but not actually tall) and I never felt like I could be any sort of N type until I forgot height altogether and compared my head to my body. My vertical line isn't short, it's moderate/slightly taller looking. I also don't think the system is totally comprehensive in the strict sense because it excludes people with visibly mixed bone structure who are super tall (imo Zendaya) and visibly dramatic bone structure who are short (Lucy Liu).
@swanthequeen2144
@swanthequeen2144 3 года назад
She mentioned your vertical line is what it counts but someone tall will never look small or moderate. A short person can have a long vertical line that makes them look taller but never a dramatic, a very tall person will never look small like a gamine or romantic. Is just impossible.
@ZwarteKonijn
@ZwarteKonijn 3 года назад
Honest opinion; I think height really can matter in your overall look, however I think it should not be a very prominent factor in Kibbe's system. His system is based on ying and yang, in your bone structure, in your flesh, in your overall look, the balance in your body. It's about figuring out what details fit you, and makes you look the best, what to look for. I think height should be a side note in his sytem, like 'yo, height can influence your overall look', not like it used now as 'yeah, this type might fits your body the best, but no, you can't be because you're too tall/small'.

@ConnieWobbles
@ConnieWobbles 3 года назад
You can be an Apple shape like Drew Barrymore and still be a romantic. Waist emphasis is only one aspect of being a romantic. Apple shapes like Kelly Osbourne have broad shoulders and narrow hips, therefore more of a Flamboyant Gamine, but the Apple body that has shorter more petite bones but with added width and softness can still be a romantic. It's easy to become confused and tripped up in this system by trying to fit each specific criteria, rather than looking at what's dominant overall.

Personally I think the perceived height is more important than absolute meisurements. For example: in the Netherlands (where I live) the average woman is 5"7 or 1,70 m. My height of 1,71 m therefore is very average where I live and I am also perceived as very average in height. However, when I travel abroad I am always taller than most women. My bone structure and proportions are absolutely on the soft and feminine side of the spectrum (soft natural or romantic, still figuring that out...) According to the meisurements in Kibbe's text as stated in the video, this is not an option. So I think perceived height or relative tallness is more important than the absolute numbers. What do you think?

@ZwarteKonijn
@ZwarteKonijn 3 года назад
Well, it doesn't change the types that fit your height. stylesyntax.com/blog/2020/03/15/height-in-kibbe-2020/ goes into this. I'd want to add (as a dutch person myself) that the way people approach height in the Kibbe system feels weird, because there are a lot of 'but 1.70 is tall', and I'm like 'No, it's not. It's moderate', but that's just my own perception of height. Dutch people just are often a bit taller, the average height is a bit taller than most other places. But that doesn't change the types you belong to, because they're made for all sizes. So, the average dutch person will be natural or dramatic, more so then other types.
@merlijn-lottekrommenhoek4389
@merlijn-lottekrommenhoek4389 3 года назад
@@ZwarteKonijn I get what you are saying. As a dressmaker I often use the Kibbe system in my design process for bespoke women's clothes as a guideline to make something for an individual person to make them glow from the inside because they feel great and powerful in their own body. I try to train my eye in typing people quite quickly, and I take their meisurements and photograph. Sometimes, when I look back at the data I collected, I am surprised at how tall or how short some people really are. Because there is not just the vertical axis but also the width of their shoulders, chest, waist, hips and thighs. And some people have a head that is relatively small or lange, which changes their perceived height considerably! This is why I personally think that the perception of height and vertical line is more important than the numbers on their own, although I do see that height (perceived or not) can 't be ignored.

This is so helpful. I’m 5’1” and very hourglass. But people often perceive me as more strong- my mom used to say I had a dramatic face and body (she knows nothing of kibbe) but with a very feminine double curve. Theatrical romantic even explains the clothes that suit me- figure fitting and draping fabrics, and why my face doesn’t wear a lot of bright makeup well, and why I can’t pull of boyish looks at all. It’s like a light bulb turned on. And explains why I have been teased for looking vampy- or a femme fatale. I was ashamed of that bc I wasn’t trying to look that way. Now I’m not ashamed! This is my vibe. And I actually look less vampy when I dress FOR my curves than when I try to dress like someone else. 💜

I believe it is not a restricted rule to be a certain height to be classified as one specific type. It is a guide for some people that doesn't know which body type they have because they are confused. It is more about how tall you look, there are people who are very short, but they look tall because of their head, arms and legs size. Also, it helps people to understand that is very difficult, for example, to be a flamboyant natural or a dramatic with 5'1".

Maybe the only type that can’t be short is SD, I have never seen one shorter than moderate height (the shortest SD typed by Kibbe is 5’4 Barbara Streisand)....usually a ‘short SD’ will fit into TR unless her bone structure is very sharp and angular overall and she has a lot of curves and rounded flesh on top...but...then again a short person with angular bones and rounded curves (like Reese Witherspoon) seems much more likely to be SG.

I'm 5'11"...and as proportional as I look in pictures (and yes I do when sitting or standing alone by myself with no one around to compare me to)...there ain't NO WAY I'm a "classic" lol! This is when photos can be a little misleading...because in real life I am super tall! There is no hiding me, and I tower over most people (many men included). I guess what I'm trying to say, is that in real life, it becomes even more apparent how you appear...and also the vibe you create by your size...and it wouldn't make sense for me to try and be something I'm not by saying "well in photos by myself I look maybe like a classic." You know what I mean? That's why I think, Kibbe makes even more sense when people try and think about the impact their presence makes in real life - like...my best friend is literally 4'11" - so we're a foot apart! We have same issues with clothing...lol...anyway...my point is, in person our heights are so obvious, and our impact and the vibe we make (each, alone) is very different...so we would naturally look better when we dress according to that.

I'm 5'10" so I totally feel that towering over people lmao I also have a petite friend about 5'2" and next to her you totally see my vibe, people even say I look "intimidating" because of how tall and broad I look, but alone on a picture I, too, look the same as you described it, balanced and kinda classic (even though you can still notice my broadness it's not as obvious) That phenomenon in picturesI can explain, as an artist I studied basic anatomy and I guess it looks balanced, because in general your legs are as long as your upper body, thats why you may notice, your arms and head have that vertical line, but the rest looks pretty normal and even proportioned

I wish someone would inform moderators and administrators of Kibbe official FB group, even Kibbe himself about the difference between appearance on photos and reality, when you actually see the size of the person and so hyped and prioritized 'vertical line' has no longer any significance. His FB group is managed by mostly petite ladies who tend to have their own blogs and similar content where they literally create an atmosphere of glorification of petite types, especially G's which gives impression that the entire Kibbe system caters to shorter, petite women. I've read in one of those blogs that 5'2'' woman is typed as SD because 'she has long vertical'. Which is rubbish, IMHO, precisely because of real life vs. photo image impression of someone's height and body mass. If you place two SD's by Kibbe side by side, one being 5'2'' and other 5'10'' the difference is so staggering that it's obvious that they can't be the same 'body image type', nor that they should be wearing the same lines. Also, placing all women taller than5'9'' into FN is ridiculous. Just because someone is tall, doesn't mean their body lines, face or vibe/energy fits into this particular type. All top models are not FN's. Simple as that. FN is not only tall, it's sporty, athletic, strong and muscular, it has particular body built which is most similar to swimmer body type - broader shoulders, wider chest/rib cage but not too much flesh/bust on top of it, nor particularly defined waist line. In older system, FN would be most similar to inverted triangle/inverted pyramid. Woman with hourglass figure, waist, bust, hips is not FN no matter how tall she may be. Nor women who are rectangular and dry but not muscular, or broad, or athletic and strong appearing with top heavy body built in general. To my eyes, Brooke Shields, Stephanie of Monaco and Cameron Diaz are examples of FN body image. I don't see that majority of top models fit into this type. What 'moderate' means in 2020 after all? Average height differs from one race/ethnicity to another and has been change constantly through history. Moderate in Asia or South America is not the same as what is considered moderate in North or Eastern Europe, i.e. Average body size and height in 1950's and today can't be compared. Marylin was size 16 at her time and by current sizing her dimensions fit into size 6, more or less. That means that new generations are much taller and bigger than their ancestors. It was unimaginable that a woman wears shoe size bigger than 37, today many girls, even not so tall ones, are size 40+ in European sizing. What's the point of insisting on vertical line when in person, nobody can hide the actual height and size? It's just ridiculous and imposes insecurities on young people. Not even getting into the 'vibe/energy/personality' moment here, which is, to me, the most important for someone's style. You can look like Grace Kellly, if you are punk/rock chic in your soul, if you have D vibe or N vibe, you won't look nor feel good until your appearance is not in harmony with your true self. Is this how majority of supermodels look like? Don't think so. i.pinimg.com/600x315/2d/9c/05/2d9c05feb465a59d29f1851e2f4d719b.jpg BTW, Cindy Crawford here has 50+, two children, is more dry in flesh due to weight lifting, age and has had tummy tuck. i.pinimg.com/originals/c4/d5/5e/c4d55e80d51c9eafb10f946e8ba632ee.jpg

Thank you Aly for this video! I am 5'3" and still can't figure out if I am dramatic classic or some type of gamine ... I definitely have some yang, and in pictures I look taller than I actually am, but I am also sure I'm not pure dramatic, and definitely not natural or romantic. I think I tend to look my best wearing what is usually recommended for classics and some of those recommended for gamines (even if not as many: I don't think I look good with the FG type of clothes, especially) while I look terrible with things that usually suit naturals ... So - even if I am still a bit confused - I consider this to be already an achievement. Thanks for all your videos about the Kibbe body types!

honestly, this whole Kibbe body system thing has been a tremendous help in improving my self-body image. For most of my life, ive been desperately chasing after the dramatic types of body; long, lean, straight, and most importantly skinny. Body systems like these have made me realize that weight loss isn't always/is almost never the answer for beauty. Beauty is subjective and just because something doesn't conform to the current trend or what others considers beautiful, that does not make it ugly in itself. I had to remind myself that trends come and go. And who knows, maybe round chubby bodies will someday be the next trend

Nor certain features. It's ridiculous. Tall South American or Asian is rather average or even short in North/Eastern Europe. What are 'rounded' eyes in Asia? Or narrow noses in Africa? It's rubbish. What's the point of specific types for petite women if they are going to be placed into taller groups? How tall should vertical line appear in order to place 5'0'' person into tallest groups, like D, SD, FN? What about personal contact where there is no more impressions and appearances, it's pure facts of how tall or big a person really is? I am glad you said this as I've seen others say that individuals can look short and be Gamines at any height (even those over 6 feet tall!), and I don't agree. Any person who is over 5'8" looks tall, even if they have a larger head. Some people say Lily Cole and Taylor Swift are Gamines, but they are over 5'10" and 5'11" and no matter what clothes they wear I think they both look very tall, and when in pictures next to Gamines (who have short limbs/lines & gamine features) it becomes obvious how proportionate their limbs and features are (Lily Cole has a more ingenue face, but her body and overall image looks more proportionate and not gamine).

I struggle a lot with this one, the fact is that my body is skinny curvy and my face had some D and E answers. The fact is that soft dramatic is large, bold, exotic. If you had no width and boldness in your body and look skinny curvy you're probably a drmatic classic.

Well, if you're DC, you'll look balanced with just a slight vertical. If you're SD, you'll look tall first, with a lot of curves (S like curves). Also, if you're over 5,7, you're automatically too yang to be a DC. Anyone who is taller than that must be a D, SD ir FN. These are kibbe's own words, from recent times. Hope this helps. TR’s are usually 5’5 and under, very petite, small hands and feet, yet Rihanna is 5’8, has a long vertical line, has large hands and feet & definitely could be classed as having an “exotic” look, I would say she matches up more with the physical attributes of a Soft Dramatic.

@raraavis7782

I wondered about that, too. Average height varies quite a bit from country to country or between different ethnic groups. Does that then mean, certain body types are more prevalent there? And that doesn't even touch on the question of populations, where people tend to have a more uniform body type, like the Japanese, for example. Does the Kibbe system even apply to them? I never thought about it before, but it is an interesting question.
@schneeroseful
@schneeroseful 3 года назад
No, if your country is taller or shorter than US-standards, the absolute numbers vary. More important is hiw people guess your height vs. what it actually is. I am 1,70 FN, people always guess 1,80.
@raraavis7782
@raraavis7782 3 года назад
@@schneeroseful But that doesn't even make sense. I mean, the part about wheather people perceive you as short or tall does, but not the reference to the Kibbe system applying specifically to the USA. The US isn't a country in the sense, say, Norway is a country. With a population that shares (by and large) a similar genetic heritage. It's literally a meltingpot from people from all over the world. So referring to the 'average' height of an American women is a rather meaningless statistic, because it doesn't actually predict the height of the individual women very well. If Kibbe works for American women it should work everywhere...at the very least within Europe.

I’m envious of the feminine curves and more delicate bone structure of R types like yourself! it’s so feminine and pretty :)

Being 5'8/172cm is a hell. Because by the book, nono you're FN/SD/D!!! Nothing else!! And then there's me saying "I'm 5'8/172cm but I look quite balanced tho, I'm really not all vertical!!" So seeing that example of that model being 5'8/172cm and an official DC? Fills my heart with joy.

Kibbe mostly uses these extreme height cut offs people don’t stray away from their image ID. In his typings he is not as strict with it as he has typed a FG who was 5’8” at one point and the latest romantic reveal is 5’5.5”.

@@elektrakomplexet I really agree. Especially for the sizes one inch above the limit : namely 5'8 haha. Because when you're 5'8 I believe you can still have somewhat of a shorter vertical line because you can still have a head big enough to balance that at least a little bit (because I know that 1- people don't think I'm that tall until I tell them, 2- my head's fucking huge guys). And the usual response I get when I say this online? I'm butthurt because I can only be D/SD/FN. Which isn't false, but why am I butthurt? Because I'm sure I'm not 100% wrong lol Anyway thanks for coming to my TEDTalk NB: And in the end FN fits me quite well so shut up me amirite

I’m 5’8 but SN. I think how tall you look is more important than how tall you are. Over all, height is just one aspect of bone structure and doesn’t account for weight distribution at all.
@elektrakomplexet
@elektrakomplexet 3 года назад
Madison Aubrey Dawson Actually, in Kibbe actual height is important because at one point you will have vertical. If you have to dress for length you have vertical. Even buying longer jeans than average gives you vertical. Height does account for weight distribution too. The taller you are the more room there will be to distribute weight overall. Someone who is 5’2” will not be able to handle the same weight as someone who’s 5’10”. “Looking shorter” is only applicable when you’re around moderate height or lower.

@@elektrakomplexet the weight thing you said is very true. As I said I’m 172cm/5’8, and around 95kg/209pounds. And though it’s obvious I’m overweight, people tell me I don’t look that heavy. And if I had been a few inches shorter it would have been wayyyyy different

I think with the height it's the easiest way to find your kibbi body type ...Thanks for that video!

This is really interesting. I have believed myself to be a soft classic, but as I am 173cm tall (5'9") I might have to look more into it...

I got soft classic in my test, which I think it's pretty accurate in general and now I know my height also fits, since I'm 5'4 or 163 cm. In any case, it's a good way to see if I was right about most of my calculations

Still pretty sure I’m SD, I’m 5’10”/178cm and I have a very long line in photographs but I get called “dainty for my height” in person, but I think my shy quiet vibe plays into that. I have long arms and legs where I tend to put weight, 33” bust, 25” waist, and 41” hips. Quite moderate shoulders I think. I look like a potato without waist emphasis and wrapping soft flowy fabrics are what gets me the most compliments throughout the day.

I agree it's all about the proportions. I'm 165 cm (5'5") and I think I'm SD - I have a lot of D's sharpness especially with low weight, but also fullness in eyes, mouth and bottom/thigh area. I also have small head and very long arms and legs, I definitely look taller than I really am. On the contrary, my partner seems to be R, or maybe SN. He's 173 cm (about 5'8"), so visibly taller than me - but my arms and legs and fingers are longer than his, in absolute units. I also know a R lady who's similar height to him, but when I see her from afar, I'd never say so.

Hello Ally! I've been having some trouble figuring out my type, so if I'm over 172cm can I rule out every time from natural to gamine? And then stay only with the left side to decide?
@Fernandanatac

My aunt is 1,53m , however she doesn’t have a gamine body at all, she has big breasts, thick thights, big butt, small waist. She’s very “curvy”, and would never be confused with a teenager. Her facial features are more “square”, like Jennifer Anniston. Her shoulders are a little broad and she’s naturally muscular. She’s more like a... “compressed” person rather than a petite person. Her head is kinda small compared to her body. Would she be... soft natural, then? Even being so short? Or she would have to be gamine even if she’s very curvy?

I fint know what country and year his book was written but catwalk models today are much taller than 5’9 today and being 5’9 as a woman in my country is considered moderate height nowadays. I’m 5’9 and I consider myself a soft classic/theatrical romantic. A minimalistic theatrical romantic basically. I’m an hour glass, fleshy and all my features are delicate. Even my hair and skin looks delicate.

Is it possible to be flamboyant natural and not be tall (I am 160 cm, 5'3 ft)? I have been on a personal style analysis and I was determined as flamboyant (dramatic, romantic and natural mix) , but the stylist uses the Jung types, are both systems similar enough?
