What is a Hel Hook? Can you weld chromium vanadium wrenches? and what is the best filler rod for jobs like that?
In this video I am modifying and welding a chromium vanadium wrench so that I will have a dedicated wrench for my gas cylinder connections.
I just got tired of tracking down my 12" adjustable wrench and want a dedicated wrench that will stay on the cylinder all the time.
So I got some cheap wrenches in 11/16" and 1-1/8" sizes , cut with a grinder, and welded into a custom dedicated wrench that will not get borrowed like the adjustable wrench.
I used 309 filler rod for this and I would recommend anyone with a welding shop to keep a few sticks of 309 rod around for jobs like this as well as other dissimilar metal combinations and odd jobs.
Visit my store at weldmongerstore.com for TIG Fingers, DVDs, and other quality welding tools.

Same here, I bought Jody's steel weld up version for my tig tank, as I did his dual flow reg. this week as well for a stainless tubing job on a turbo car hot side. I owe this guy everything I know about welding. I am Jody taught, and a lot of practice.

You're a genius, love watching your videos, I always learn so much. Shade tree mechanic here, learned to weld by the seat of my pants by necessity on my tractors and my jeep. I don't think I would ever pass a welding test. but I am better for watching your videos. Thank you so much for he time and effort you put into it. You make it fun to watch.

Ryan gst, TIG welding is the best skill I’ve learned, I’ve been at it for 15 years now and am still learning a lot about welding. I love the variety of applications I’ve TIG welded ever the years, everything from bronze sculptures to implement attachments to garden tools for old women. 😄 I’ve enjoyed all of it greatly and you will too, good luck man! 👍🏻

I welded a chrome vanadium wrench that I cut in half to a piece of plain steel. I uses the 309 rod and it worked great. I didn't fool around with playing the foot pedal. Instead I clamped both pieces side by side in a vice. The vice ate the excess heat.👀

309 is my go to filler rod for just about whatever. It flowes good, looks good, and rarely cracks. I have and use more 309 filler rod than any other filler rod in my shop. I welded my enitre front axle together with 309 rod and I haven't had any problems with weld fatigue.

Cool thing. Back in the day we would take the most used sockets and we welded them or even brazed them on a steel rod. Man those were handy when you really needed more leverqge and were afraid to use ur ratchet (example is loosening car tires).

Never thought of using a stainless wire to weld wrenches, always use the regular steel wire when I tig them. I always thought it would crack under extreme torq. And I have an elcheapo scratch tig I weld with only too.

A little trick is to also use the box end of a 1-1/8” wrench and use it to put the meter on then it stays on of course and you know right where it is when you need to remove. So those left over end you have will work perfect for that. I’ve also welded a washer with 5/8” hole to the end of box side of wrench and reinstalled the nipple end of the brass part for propane attachments like a propane fired turbo heater and that wrench is always there and never lost when needed.

I think just having the confidence that you won't have to go screwing around looking for a wrench when you have to change bottles makes this worth it.

Just started TIG welding, and your videos have helped me so much, and they continue to help and educate me. Can you start a Patreon? I would love to support you there. You are a great teacher. Also, I really want some TIG fingers, but shipping (to Norway) cost as much as the finger. Is it possible to order cheaper shipping when just ordering your TIG finger?

Great page, I just found it and subscribed. Do you do custom welding if someone sends you something? I have an awesome vintage steel hammer but the handle side is too short and I wanted it longer.. I live in Veteran housing so I can bring my little Arc or tools here. I bought one in 93 and it still works like a charm. But its in storage since 2002

Now that's a strong weld there, would you expect a 316lSi rod to preform in the same manner when it comes to chrome vanadium? I have a spool of 316 that I twist up (like you showed me) for TIG rods, and I haven't come across any small quantety spools or rods other then 70-6 and 316lSi around here. Thinking about maken something like that for another aplication, mabe I'll even make one just like it, afterall I haven't used anything bigger than a 22mm for anything but the gasclock since I stopped working on diggers and tractors

I fail to see how the valve is protected, aside from a lockout condition.. the reg can still snap the valve threads. The thin gauge might still transfer full impact to valve. What am I missing?
