Just finished reading this book. AMAZING!!! The mourning process commingled with Mabel's "education", terrific!

Most people's relationships are with mammals. Birds and reptiles are quite different. Their branch of the evolutionary tree and our branch diverged a very long time ago. Birds' eyes are quite different. They are like aliens. Even when you manage to connect, somehow it's very different from connecting with a mammal.
