What if there is a movie with a cast that includes Meryl Streep, Helen Merrin, Judi Dench, Glenn Close, Maggie Smith, Susan Sarandon, and Emma Thompson. Imagine that casting.
SB19x1stOne Fanboy wow, Hellen was perfect, maybe Susan Srandon or Ema Thompson. Glen Close is amazing but I don’t see her as the queen Elizabeth. Meryl Streep, no way.
Hello? Meryl won The Golden Globes for her Leading Role in portraying Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. Read a book or enlight yourself with knowledge.
seanzscorpio That's not what I said, you're distorting what I said, but whatever rows your boat. I usually don't argue with idiots, since all they try to do is drag me down to their level and beat me with their expertise in stupidity.
@1 Garoto 2 Mundos i would like to address on the fact that both Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren are both brilliant actress. Meryl role of a runway fashion editor, she demonstrate a strong, confident personality but yet weak in her feelings towards her family:) Helen Mirren role on the other hand is the Queen of England, the one who rules, she demonstrate a strong and unbeatable personality and shows everyone what a queen has to go through every day to take care of the state.
Undoubtedly the most competitive year for female actress in the leading role till now. All five nominees are nominated in BAFTA, Golden Globe, SAG and BFCA that year and Helen Mirren swept across all these Big 4 and other most influential Big 4 Critics Awards , together with the Best Actress in Venice Festival. She only left Golden Globe Comedy and Musician for Meryl Streep and Best Actress in Cannes Film Festival for Penelope Cruz because she was not in these two categories. Judi Dench gave the best acting in Notes on a Scandal in my heart, and it is Kate Winslet’s 5th Oscar nomination.
I love Helen Mirren to bits and she was amazing in The Queen, but Judi Dench gave her best performance of her life in Notes on a scandal, and for me, was unrivalled.
@@jamesnangle2079 LOVE that movie. Seeing Judi Dench playing right bitch was absolutely priceless, she nailed it big time. It's really hard to hate her, but watching this movie I did hate her. Brilliant performance.
thanks jeremyravenclaw for all the videos, where i really get a complete glimpse of the performances, unlike in the oscars channel. hoping for more oscar videos.
I just dropped by and realized that if Meryl wasn't in a lead role( which is supposed to be not) she should have won all the awards for supporting actress including academy
True. Those 5 actresses are probably the ones getting the most attention from the Academy nowadays although Jennifer Lawrence is too but she is too young and some find her overrated. Anyways, we all know that Meryl Streep is number one though.
I know, right? That movie was about Anne Hathaway's character. It is told from her POV, from beginning to end. Streep is only seen when she has contact with Hathaway. Her minor subplot involving her cheating husband takes place off-screen.
Yeah if she was supporting role, then she would definitely won... no offense for other nominees... bcuz Miranda Priestly is a legend and her performed was far better than these
The most likely reason she did not campaigned for supporting actress was she gave the slot to Emily Blunt who was very close to getting nominated that year for her role in TDWP. If Meryl had went supporting, she would have blocked the chances for Emily Blunt. I think Meryl went Lead to give Emily Blunt a chance at supporting actress. They did campaigned heavily for Emily Blunt that year (for supporting) and she did get nominated at the Globes, if i remember correctly.
I watched Notes on a scandal today for the second time and I was like... Was Judi Dench nominated for an Oscar for this?, I thought then, she must've been and I had to look this up. From the three performances I have seen, Judi was the best for me...I will have to watch The Queen and Volver soon.
The Queen is good. But I have to say, out of all the nominees, my favourite (after repeated viewing) is actually Penelope Cruz in Volver. She was phenomenal in that movie!
They have their respective Oscars now❤️❤️❤️ 1. Dame Helen Mirren, the most transformative performance by an actress in 2006 2. Dame Judi Dench 3. Meryl Streep 4. Kate Winslet 5. Penelope Cruz
I love Helen Mirren. She is such a class act but doesn't take herself too seriously and she looked so pretty that night. I loved her gown. She was amazing in "The "Queen" but this has been one of the tightest races in years. What an outstanding group of actresses. Kate Winslet would get her Oscar a couple of years later along with Penelope Cruz.
For me the list is: 1-Judi Dench: she is just perfect and Notes on a Scandal has her best performance, it's disturbing how believable she is in that role. 2-Helen Mirren: amazing portrayal and one of the best biopic performances ever along with Meryl in The Iron Lady, Philip Seymour Hoffman in Capote and Marion Cotillard in La Vie en Rose. but I think this is one of the years the academy choose the biopic performance over a brilliant and slightly better dramatic performance, like Charlize Theron in Monster over Naomi Watts in 21 Grams. 3-Penelope Cruz: she is surprisingly an amazing actress but her looks make you think otherwise as well is Reese Witherspoon, I used to think that they were doubtlessly some of the worst Oscar winners but they actually are great actress and deserved their Oscars and Volver is such a lovely movie. 4-Kate Winslet: all I can say is that it was a good performance. nothing special like most of her performance except for Eternal Sunshine and Sense & Sensibility. 5-Meryl Streep: I love Meryl even though I don't think she is solely the best actress I think that is debatable, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Glenn Close, Emma Thompson, Ellen Burstyn, Anne Bancroft and a lot others share the title. but I do think she should have more Oscars mainly because she is going really steady and the competition is getting weaker and weaker. she could have won for the following movies (The French Lieutenant's Woman, Silkwood, Out of Africa, One True Thing, Doubt, Julie and Julia and Florence Foster Jenkins) she was mostly as good as the winners (or who should have won) and more than a couple of times better. but I can't believe she got a nomination for this.
Fluffy Depression no she doesn't Viola should have won but chose to go for supporting which is actually acceptable since she isn't as much of lead as Denzel but the same thing with Faye Dunaway in Chinatown. I think Meryl is a bit annoying in Florence Jenkins but Emma is just a terrible actress that plays herself on screen I used to like her before she started to think she is a real actress
sultan aleid Your statement is contradicting to what you *oroginally* saying. You said that Meryl shouldve won from FFJ and I disagree, and now, you replied like I stated that she shouldve won from the movie and disagree from your statement. *seriously make up ur mind*
I didn't understand what you just said. Between the five who got nominated in 2017 Emma is my last choice Meryl is my first and all the nominees are mediocre. Viola who won best supporting actress that year could have beat them all and Michelle would have won best supporting actress.
sultan aleid actually, u said that Meryl shouldve won bc of FFJ and I disagree. Then u said that her performance was lackluster thou u concluded that she shouldve won. Then now, u r saying that her performance was oscar worthy?
If the Academy allows having two actresses from one film to be nominated for Actress in a Leading Role, it would have been the stiffiest and the closest match between Judi Dench, Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett.
😄. Até a próxima!
Nah. Miranda Priestly is an icon, but the tie should have been with Judi Dench. She was really amazing in Notes on a scandal to be fair, better than Meryl Streep, and I really do live Meryl. I think if Meryl were nominated as supporting She would have beaten Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls
